Testing what you hear Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. (1 John 4:1-3)
Not everything that comes from the mouths of preachers is true. Throughout the history of Christianity, false teachers have risen within the church. Different people have done it for different reasons, but one of the main reasons that stands the test of time is money. Money has driven people to proclaim themselves as prophets of God. People have stood on TV stands and demanded their audience to give them more money. People have stood in pulpits and demanded to be paid extravagant amounts of money for their services. People of consistently taken advantage of the kindness and generosity of God’s people.
That is why it is important to test what you are hearing. John recognized this for his own audience. He tells his readers to test the spirits to see if they are from God. Not everyone is promoting the message of God. Some are promoting themselves and their own wealth. So it is important that we test the spirits.
The first and most important test is what the person has to say about Jesus. Did he come in the flesh? This may seem strange to us, but at the turn of the first century there was a common belief that flesh was evil and spirit was good. This philosophical belief bleed into the church to the point that some were claiming that Jesus did not really come in the flesh. How could he, since he was the representation of God? If flesh is evil, then Jesus would have no part of it.
The problem is that if Jesus did not come in the flesh, then he would not be able to sacrifice himself on the cross. It was necessary for him to come in the flesh. It was vital. And when John tells his readers to ask this question, in many ways he is asking if they believe the right things? Proper doctrine is important. Someone who doesn’t believe a foundational piece of Christian belief is not a Christian at all.
Test what you hear. There are wolves in sheep’s clothing and it is important that we tell the difference between the two.

In March 2018, Barna Research Group released a study that showed 51% of U. S. churchgoers don’t know of the Great Commission. “Go and make disciples of all nations.” Matt. 28:19
Edwards Family—Taiwan— Alicia and Cole returned to Taiwan last week to be ready for the start of school. Chad will stay in the States until he gets Allyson enrolled at Ozark Christian College to begin her Freshman year there. Caitlyn is in Joplin working and will be continuing at Ozark and Missouri Southern in the fall.
Sanchez Family—Manzanillo, Mexico— Since summer break is only 4 weeks long, and teachers get only 2 weeks, camp is squeezed into two weeks. This our boys qualify for camp, so we are going to give it a try. Please pray for them, as they only know family camp so far. Josh will be preaching and Omar running recreation. Susan just wrapped up her time as Freshman English teacher. It has been a blessing to serve.
Our life insurance policy expired, and we can’t renew it without being physically present to sign in MO. We have been invited in August for a missions weekend 150 year anniversary of a supporting church also in MO that asked us to be present for this special occasion. My kid thinks he needs Taco Bell, and we need to visit churches and supporters out west we haven't seen the last two trips. So it looks like we may throw together a whirlwind trip to the U.S. Pray for us as we juggle funds, schedules, and travel arrangements. We will let you know more as we know more.
Shiloh— Shiloh Open House will be held at the Kahoka Ranch Site on Saturday, August 25, 2018, from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm. There will be tours of the homes, a free catered meal at noon, a program by the children and home-parents at 1pm. A freewill offering will be taken. The Kahoka Ranch is located at 18233 Highway D about 5 miles south of Kahoka.
Show Me— Establishing positive memories is vital to a healthy childhood, and essential if we’re trying to overcome the arsenal of bad memories in many of the children at Show-Me. Many great family memories are in the making this summer…theme parks, camping, adventures, water sports… Thanks to your gift these awesome kids get to experience these things they need to build a healthy future. Central Christian College of the Bible – Keep in mind the Annual Heritage Day to be held at CCCB on Friday, August 31, 2018. Come celebrate our Heritage with other friends of CCCB; see our remodeled facilities. This is also our Senior Adult event for 2018. Tom Worstell will be the 10 am Chapel Speaker and Dr. Dave Ferneau will speak at the noon Seniors Luncheon. Register in advance for your free lunch.
Ozark Christian College – – For almost 75 years the anthem of OCC has been the old hymn, “Wherever He Leads, I’ll Go”. Your recent gift helps train kingdom leaders who say, “Wherever He leads, I’ll go.” Your partnership is essential in fulfilling our mission, so thank you for raising up the next generation of leaders for the church. Matt Proctor
Christian Campus House – Summer 2018 has not been a “normal” year. As we prepare for the fall semester and the arrival of students, we are working in every building making much needed changes and upgrades as every building will house the opposite gender from years past. The advantages that housing students provide are enormous. We see students daily rather than a couple of hours each week. We expect and require of the students what they might not be mature enough to choose on their own. We provide the support of a community of believers on a campus and in a world that is very much pagan and anti-Christ. Lance Tamerius
CMCE— The August 20 CMCE meeting will be at the Sunrise Christian Church just north of Mexico. David Mackey will be speaking.
