Material description of log cabins

Fir wood has a yellowish-white colour and auniform texture. It has good strength and elasticity properties that make it extremely

suitable as a building timber and structural wood.

The uniform structure gives it an ideal surface for coloured coatings. Use open-pored, breathable varnishes for this.

Wood type:Softwood, untreated

Unlike our competitors, we calculate the base size of ourlog cabins from outside side,outer wall to outer side, outerwall. Some of our competitors,on the other hand, calculate the overall size as the width x depth, including the protruding log ends (10 cm per side).

For example:SKAN HOLZ 2.50 x 2.00 m (base size) = 5.00 m²Competitor 2,70 x 2,20 m (overall size) = 5,94 m²

This can result in a difference of up to 18% in the actual floor area.

Important informationon log cabin dimensions

Logs

All logs have tongues and grooves. The 28mmlogs have a single groove, the 45mm logshave double grooves and the 70mm logs havetriple grooves.

This principle ensures simple assembly and a waterproof jointbetween the logs.

The floors (only in the storage area for thepatio house) are made of tongue and groovedplanks that are put on the treated bearers(also included).

Floor

Roofing felt: A layer of roofing felt is includedwith the log cabins. We recommend an additional covering with bitumen sheeting asthe cabin is continually exposed to weatherconditions.

Roof shingles: Roof shingles can also be ordered as an option. These can be put directlyon the roof boards of the cabin and providethe cabin with long-term protection againstweather conditions.

Roof tiles: Tile covering is possible for cabinswith this symbol When covering with roof tiles(from a dealer), the distances of the roof bat-tens depend on the specifications of the rooftile manufacturer.Arosa + Davos: Roof battens must be additionally purchased from your dealer.45 plus + 70 plus: Cabin with roof battens for tiling in the product range.

„Turn function“ / „Tilt-and-turn function“: Thesingle and double windows either have a turnfunction (window can be completely opened)or a tilt-and-turn function (window can becompletely opened or can be tilted for ventilation).

Single glazing:Panes of real glass (3 mm) are installed forthe windows and doors.

Insulated glazing: The windows and doors have insulating double glazing.

The specified snow load is statically calculated.Please ask your building authority / local authority for the snow load permitted in yourregion.

Log cabin assembly and accessories

Assembly example 45 plus, Lugano log cabin

1. Foundation and bearers... First establish a strong, level foundation. This forms thebase for all log cabins, makes assembly easier and prolongs the functionality and usable life considerably. We recommend: a frost-proof and formed concrete foundation.Afterwards the bearers are laid according to the assembly instructions. Anchor the floorbeams on the strip foundation using bolts (on-site). Insulation can be provided bet-ween the bearers if desired.

Material for the foundation and insulation as well as shingles and roof tiles are not included.Bolts for anchoring the cabin to the ground are not included.

2. Assemble the walls and then start assembling the house... Insert thelogs in one another for this. The first row of logs is attached to the bearerusing screws. The logs are connected to each other using concealed horizon-tal threaded rods.

3. Building the roof... Cover the roof board after installing the purlins. The purlins are screwed to the gable wall logs.

7. Installation of the windows and doors... The windows and doors are installed with therubber seals embedded in the logs (for 45 plus and 70 mm). This design increases the stabi-lity and tightness of the windows and doors. The windows have an aluminium nose drop.

8. Floor boards... Your cabin is almost complete. It just needs floor boards.These are installed and the skirting boards are attached. Finished!

6. Mount the fascias... The supplied fascias are now attached.

4. Insulate if necessary (only for 45 plus and 70 mm)... Assemble additio-nal roof parts of the respective kit on the roof board if required. A counter bat-ten and batten for the kit for tiling, a counter batten and second board forshingles. It is possible to insulate the roof for the kits for tiling and shingles.

5. Apply roof covering... Now cover the roof. The basic kit includes a layer of roo-fing felt and attachment material. the shingles can be optionally ordered . You canbuy the roof tiles from your DIY store.

Care instructions

Accessories for all 28 mm / 45 mm log cabins

For years of enjoyment in your cabin:Wooden parts are untreated when delivered with the exception of the bearers. We recommend treating the parts before assembly as follows:

1. One waterproof coat on all sides (protection against fungal decay / insects, prevention of moisture absorption on surface)

2. At least one coat of thin layer varnish on all sides(wood surface protection against damage from UV light, applicable dye carrier)

3. At least one coat of thin layer varnish on all visible surfaces after assembling the cabin (surface protection against mechanical demands)

For more information, enquire at your DIY store! Ask your paint/varnish manufacturer how often the wood should be repainted.

Material description of gazebos

Glulam is a high quality composite of severalwooden parts. These are dried and glued toeach other so that they are weatherproof. This results in a supporting beam that is

resistant to deformation and less inclined to split compared withnaturally grown wood. Glulam must be treated against moulddecay and insect attacks. It is the ideal base for colour coatings.Also use open-pored varnishes for this.

The heartwood of Douglas fir is naturally resi-stant to insects and mould decay. We usetechnically dried wood that is partly finger-jointed lengthwise.

It is a very hard but also dynamic wood. An attractive lustrousgrey-silver surface forms over time that provides natural protec-tion for the wood. To retain the red colour, use an open-pored var-nish with UV protection.

Snow load

The specified snow load is statically calcula-ted. Please ask your building authority / localauthority for the snow load permitted in yourregion.

Roof covering, roof boards

Overlay with roofing felt on-site. The quietestversion when it rains due to the large mass.Natural look.

Mounting brackets

For bolting on the foundation prepared on-site. Consists of galvanised flat steel. Safegu-ards a secure connection between the gazeboand ground.

Timber pre-treated at the factoryhas the following properties:

· Protection from blueing· Protection from UV radiation· Will not flake off· Reduced swelling/shrinking· Wood structure shows through· Thin coating

The pre-applied colour is light-resistant and acts as a primer. A final coatof an acrylic-based thick varnish must be applied on-site. It will also coverup any damage resulting from transport and assembly.

Please note that components in treated spruce and Douglas fir are onlyavailable in dark colours because of their composition.

First set out the prefabricated single components and connect them together ... … until the frame is fully assembled.

You'll need a ladder to add the purlins ... ... and the roof timbers on top.

An aluminium cover: no soldering needed. Last comes laying the shingles (optional). Finished!

This is then attached to the vertical postsusing the mortise and tenon joints.

Treated softwood gets its green colour from asalt treatment. It protects the wood againstfungal decay and insects. No UV protection

and therefore no protection against greying. It is not technicallydried and therefore contains natural residual moisture. The woodmust be retreated 2-3 fair weather months after assembly.

Wood type:Softwood, treated

Glulam is a high quality composite of severalwooden parts. These are dried and glued toeach other so that they are weatherproof. This

results in a supporting beam that is resistant to deformation andless inclined to split compared with naturally grown wood. Glu-lam must be treated against mould decay and insect attacks. It isthe ideal base for colour coatings. Also use open-pored varnishesfor this.

Wood type:Douglas fir

The heartwood of Douglas fir is naturally re-sistant to insects and mould decay. We usetechnically dried wood that is partly finger-

jointed lengthwise. It is a very hard but also dynamic wood. An attractive lustrousgrey-silver surface forms over time that provides natural protec-tion for the wood. To retain the red colour, use an open-pored varnish with UV protection.

Snow load

The specified snow load is statically calcula-ted. Please ask your building authority / localauthority for the snow load permitted in yourregion.

Our tip: Assembly material (without concrete) and assembly instructions are inclu-ded. The dowels for wall attachment are provided on-site. You can get recommen-dations from the assembly instructions. These depend on the properties of yourcabin wall.

Roof coverings

Plastic sheets: milky (transparent), trapezoi-dal, not permanently resistant to hail. Simpleand fast to assemble.

Double-layer sheets: light and shockproof 10mm thin wall sheets made of polycarbonate.Available in bronze or clear. The sheets arespecially treated against UV on the top sideand ensure additional protection from rain,wind and more. Resistant to hail (when cor-rectly assembled) up to a size of 20 mm accor-ding to manufacturer information. Bronze colours as standard, clear on request! (Specify when ordering)

Mounting brackets

Mounting brackets for bolting on the founda-tion prepared on-site. Consists of galvanisedflat steel. Safeguards a secure connection between the terrace and ground.

The pre-applied colour is light-resistant and acts as a primer. A final coat of an acrylic-basedthick varnish must be applied on-site. It will also cover up any damage resulting from transportand assembly.

terrace roof in Glulam Assembly example

The mounting brackets are aligned andscrewed on according to the foundationplan.

The rear purlin for wall attachment is aligned and firmlymounted with the aid of dowels (not included).

The undersheet is attached to the rafters with roof nails. Thedouble-layer sheets are prepared for assembly and laid on theroof. The roof sheets are attached by screwing on aluminiumcover profiles. ... Finished!

The rafters are aligned according to the assembly instructions and fixedwith screws. The roof construction is completed by applying the roof battens.

The posts are aligned and connected with mounting brackets. The purlins are screwed firmlyto the posts. Afterwards the braces are fixed at the posts and purlins.

Material description of carports

Treated softwood gets its green colour from asalt treatment. It protects the wood againstfungal decay and insects. No UV protection

and therefore no protection against greying. It is not technicallydried and therefore contains natural residual moisture. The woodmust be retreated 2-3 fair weather months after assembly.


Post anchors for setting in concrete or screwingdown ensure a long service life and high levelof stability. If these are included in the kit, wedeliver the anchors for setting in concrete forfree.

Gutters made of brown plastic with drainpipeand attachment material.

The post dimensions support and strengthenthe structure. They should not be less than 9 x 9 cm for visual and static reasons.

Glulam is a high quality composite of severalwooden parts. These are dried and glued toeach other so that they are weatherproof. This

results in a supporting beam that is resistant to deformation andless inclined to split compared with naturally grown wood. Glulammust be treated against mould decay and insect attacks.It is the ideal base for colour coatings. Also use open-pored varnis-hes for this.


Solid construction timber is a technically driedand finger-jointed solid construction timber. Firwood must be treated against mould decay and

insect attacks. Use a conventional, open-pored wood preservation varnish with UV protection.

Thanks to the precise sections and cut-outs, assembling the individual numbered parts is easy...

... The tenons are inserted in the mortises and joined with a nail hammer.

The roof boards are screwed tothe rafters.

The storage area and wallsconsist of beams and boardsthat are screwed together as awall siding.

The rafters can be individually mounted through the ridge. This makes assemblymuch easier.
