Are you l ooking to take a Gap Year? Are you thinking about full time Christ ian Ministry?
Do you want to develop your gifts and ministry?
I
so then Kairos could be or you.
Kairos is a Gap Year opportunity
run under the umbrella o Tunbridge
Wells Fellowship o Evangelicals .
It is or anyone aged 18 or over
who is serious about pursuing God
and his calling on their lives.
Kairos is a Greek word or ‘Time’. It
doesn’t just reer to the time o day
but a signifcant moment in time. We
believe that the Kairos Gap year is
just that or those who take part.
The Year is divided into three
components:
Component 1: Training Day
One day per week is devoted totraining. The curriculum is divided
between theological training in the
mornings and practical ministry training
in the aternoons. The theological
training is intended to deepen both
your knowledge and exper ience o
God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The
practical training is devised to equip you
with the skills required to work in church
based ministry. Some o the subjects
include, The Nature and Character
o God, The Father Heart o God, The
Kingdom o God, Prophecy, The Cross
and Resurrection, Mission and the Work
o the Holy Spirit. The practical course
includes Leading Small Groups,
Teaching and Preaching, Schools Work
and Leadership Skills.
As well as the lectu res there is also
plenty o opportunity or group bible
study and worship. We also try
and acilitate day trips to see and
experience dierent ministries,
or example Prison Work. The training component also has
a reading list.
For anyone interested in the training
component but not able to work with
their church there is also the option
to just take part in the training day.
Component 2: Church Placement
The majority o time is spent in your
church placement. The nature o this
needs to be discussed with your church
leaders but we anticipate this being an
opportunity or you to try new things,
develop your gits, step up in terms o
leadership and also to be available to
serve your church in whatever ways are
appropriate. Past students have been
heavily involved in youth and children’s
work, schools work, worship, leadership
as well as administration and chair
stacking! They have been a hugely
valuable resource to their church.
I or whatever reason you are unable
to be placed at your home church
this need not be a problem. It may be
possible or you to be hosted elsewhere.
Component 3: Overseas Mission
We hope Kairos will move you out o
your comort zone to increase your
dependence on God. I the training
day and church placement haven’t
done this the overseas mission
will! Previous groups have been to
Tanzania, Botswana, Peru and South
Arica (hence the photos!) The idea
o the trip is to increase your global
awareness, to give you a taste o overseas mission and to stretch you
as an individual and as a group.
Those taking part in the mission trip
would say it isn’t always a comortable
experience but it is a valuable one!
Kairos is hosted by Jennie Worthley
and overseen by Chris Wicks. Jennie
is the course administrator, and Chris
is the vicar o St Matthew’s.
