Transcript of KAIROS Advent 2012: Third Sunday - Migrant Justice
Mary and Joseph relied on the welcome of strangers when they arrived in Bethlehem after a long journey. In today’s world, who is seeking shelter?
Who is seeking freedom from fear? Who is seeking freedom from want? Who is fleeing poverty, seeking fair wages and just treatment here in Canada?
And what is our response to the knock on our doors?
They are: Often forced to leave home because of extreme poverty...
Often isolated here in Canada...
Often lacking protections against abuse and low wages.
Harvest a lot of our food and are a part of farming communities across Canada for over half the year.
Luke 3:
And the crowds asked him, "What then should we do?"
In reply he said to them, "Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise."
Even tax collectors came to be baptized, and they asked him, "Teacher, what should we do?"
He said to them, "Collect no more than the amount prescribed for you."
Soldiers also asked him, "And we, what should we do?" He said to them, "Do not extort money from anyone by threats or false accusation, and be satisfied with your wages."
In February 2012 in southern Ontario, a van carrying migrant workers was struck at a poorly marked stop sign. Ten people died. This is a vigil remembering them.
They are:-Often forced to leave home because of extreme poverty...-Often isolated here in Canada...-Often lacking protections against abuse and low wages.
Care for our children

Migrant workers::
Listen to migrant workers.
Learn why people migrate.

Migrant workers are asking for the shelter of our support, our ideas, our action and our voices.
At a KAIROS migrant justice gathering. May Advent hope be found in our commitment to action.Join the conversation; join a joyful movement for justice!
