The 28th Annual Montana Governors Cup Walleye Tournament is now full to the brim with 200 two-person teams (and already teams on the waiting list) competing for nearly $100,000 in cash and prizes. The tourney is set for Fort Peck Lake on Thursday-Saturday, July 9th, 10th and 11th. With a 100% payback on all entry fees, day money and big fish contests, this years tournament will be the biggest in history. The winning team will take home a $15,000 first place prize making the Governors Cup the most lucrative walleye tournament in Montana. Its been since 2002 that the Governors Cup has reached the limit of 200 teams. There was a stretch from 1998-2002 that the tournament was filled at the 200 maximum amount of teams. The tourney hit hard times and entries fell as low as 70 in 2007 but has been rebounding in recent years. Last years tourney had 142 teams entered. A waiting list is being comprised by the Glasgow Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture for this years tourney. If you are interested in being on the waiting list you need to contact the Glasgow Chamber at 406-228-2222 or by email at [email protected]. A deposit of $150 is required to be put on the waiting list for the Governors Cup. The tourney starts on July 9th with a guy-gal tourney and rules meeting. The actual Guv Cup is set for July 10th and 11th based out of the Fort Peck Marina. Boats will start making wakes each morning at 7:00 sharp. Oh, and that last team to enter, Team #200? Sam Lawson and Clay Kittleson of Fort Peck.

    The Cup runneth over

Reds over Spearfish The Glasgow Reds, competing in the Terry Jablonsky Wood Bat Classic in Dickinson, North Dakota, won their first game of the tournament over Spearfish 4-2. The Reds were up bright and early (8:30 North Dakota time, that would feel like 7:30 for our boys) to play Pierre, South Dakota. Tonight they face the host Dickinson Rough Riders. The Roughies beat the Reds 4-3 for the championship in Billings last weekend in which the Reds probably should have won. They were up 3-0 going into the bottom of the 7th when the wheels fell off, allowing all four runs on no hits. The Reds would commit two errors in that fatal bottom of the 7th. Hopefully things go a little better this evening.

  • Elmer E. Whitten (Red), of Nashua, Montana, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the age of 57. Red was born to parents Elmer and Mary Whitten on August 26, 1957 in Canyon, Texas. He was the oldest of three boys and attended Canyon High School. On March 29, 1986 Red married Connie Murch. The couple had four children. Red worked as a self-employed drywall finisher, at BNSF, and gunsmithing until he was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer in 2013. Red enjoyed his children and grandchildren very much. Red was a wonderful father and husband. They had an awesome love and life together. Red was a friend to everyone he met and loved to visit with all he saw. Red was full of life and loved to joke around with everyone. Red knew the meaning of love and life and was full of both. He was a true southern gentleman, opening the doors for Connie and taking her arm to walk side by side with her. Red loved going to the range to sight in guns and he loved to hunt. Most of all he loved being with his family and playing with his grandkids. His laughter, kindness, and smile we will always miss but never forget. Red is survived by his wife Connie, his mother Mary Whitten of Canyon, TX, his children Michael (Erin) Myrick and their children Ashtyn, Blaine, Cade, and Davyn of Glasgow; his daughter April (Jesse) Block and their children Keigan Skolrud and Kambryn Block of Nashua; his daughter Krystal (Brian) Cahill and their son Mason Reid Cahill of Killeen, TX; and son James Whitten of Billings. He is survived by two brothers; Erik Whitten of Canyon, TX and Evan Whitten of Dallas, TX. Red is also survived by Connies parents Walt and Darlene Murch. Red is survived by sister-in-laws Peggy Lauckner, Lori Kolstad and their families. He is survived by a brother-in-law Dave Murch and his family as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow. A luncheon will follow at the church. Condolences for the family may be left at: www.bellmortuarymontana.com. Bell Mortuary in Glasgow is in charge of arrangements.

Im sorry and I apologize usually mean the same thing... except at a funeral.

Two medical students were walking along the street when they saw an old man walking with his legs spread apart. He was stiff-legged and walking slowly. One student said to his friend: Im sure that poor old man has Peltry Syndrome. Those people walk just like that. The other student says: No, I dont think so. The old man surely has Zovitzki Syndrome. He walks slowly and his legs are apart, just as we learned in class. Since they couldnt agree they decided to ask the old man. They approached him and one of the students said to him, Were medical students and couldnt help but notice the way you walk, but we couldnt agree on the syndrome you might have. Could you tell us what it is? The old man said, Ill tell you, but first you tell me what you two fine medical students think. The first student said, I think its Peltry Syndrome. The old man said, You thought - but you are wrong. The other student said, I think you have Zovitzki Syndrome. The old man said, You thought - but you are wrong. So they asked him, Well, old timer, what do you have? The old man said, I thought it was GAS - but I was wrong, too!

Aguygoesforahaircut. He walks into his barber and sits in the chair. This guy had the greaser pomp with a slight fade going on. He tells the barber, Hey man, can you go ahead and take some off the top, a little bit uneven? Go ahead and give me a taper on the left just below the ear and a fade on the right, and in the back, and can you just not clean it up above the shirt line? Oh, and try to see if you can give me a crooked line up in the front. The barber asks him, Why would I do that? I dunno, man, but thats how you did it last time.
