City Council Considers Proposed FY 2013 BudgetDuring their May 21 meeting, City Council passed first read-
ing of an ordinance to establish a FY 2013 Budget for the City.
Second and final reading of the ordinance will occur during
Council’s regularly scheduled June 4 meeting.
The proposed millage rate remains unchanged for FY 2013 at
38 mils. This includes 32 mils for operations and 6 mils for debt
service on the 2011 General Obligation Park Improvement
Bonds. The debt service millage, made effective in FY 2012,
will expire at the end of eight years when the Improvement
Bonds have been paid off. North Myrtle Beach continues to
have the lowest millage rate in Horry County.
The overall proposed budget for FY 2013 is $83,722,921
compared to $74,730,827 in FY 2012. The proposed increase is
attributed to major capital projects, including the construction of
the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex located west of
the Intracoastal Waterway, and major storm water drainage
improvements for the Main Street area.
The proposed Budget eliminates through attrition two regular
employee positions for a total of 359 employees, which is two
less than FY 2012.
If approved, full salaries and benefits would be budgeted for
all positions. However, depending on economic conditions, some
position vacancies might remain unfilled for the fiscal year.
A copy of the Budget is available at www.NMB.us under“New & Noteworthy” on the homepage. To have a copy emailedto you, please request one from [email protected]
