Time to Register for Camp!
It‘s time to choose a camp experience that suits you! Camp catalogs are available at the church, and camp scholarships are available.
Perspective from Pastor Diana
Too good to keep!
There are so many good Bible stories in the Old Testament, but one of my favorites is in 2 Kings 7:3-11. Samaria is under siege by the King of Aram, creating a famine within Samaria. Outside the city gate at its entrance were four men with leprosy. People with leprosy were outcasts. That‘s why they were outside the protection of the city gates. They said to each other, ‗Why stay here until we die? If we say, ‗We‘ll go into the city‘—the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die. So let‘s go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die.‖
At dusk the four men go to the camp of the Arameans and discover the camp empty—totally vacated. By causing them to think a huge army was approaching, it seems that God had put ―the fear of God‖ into the Arameans. They got up, abandoned their tents, their horses, and their donkeys and fled. The four men entered one of the tents and found food and drink, silver, gold and clothes. They hid their find and went back for more, looking in another tent.
Then they said to each other, ―We‘re not doing right. This is a day of good news and we are
keeping it to ourselves….Let us go at once and report this to the royal palace.‖ So they went and reported to the city gatekeepers what they had found. The gatekeepers shouted out the news and passed it along to the palace.
Even though they had been made outcasts, the men with leprosy were generous in sharing what they had discovered with others, with the king and the very people who had made them outcasts. They knew that the people on the inside of the city walls were as desperate as they were—they were dying of starvation due to the siege and consequent famine. They knew they had come on something good—something very good—food, water, clothing, gold, and silver. Rather than hiding and keeping it all to themselves they realized their discovery was too good to keep. And so they shared it.
Without Christ, you and I, along with every other human being on planet earth, are outcasts, people outside the kingdom of God. We are hungry and starving for relationship with God while the world keeps us under siege. When we discover the love of Christ available to us, we know we have found something good—something very good. We have good news to share.
Do we do as the four men who discovered the plunder of Aram? Do we realize what we have found is too good to keep? (continued) P. 3
![Page 4: June 2010 e 0 - clearlakeumc.orgclearlakeumc.org/docs/chimes/201006.pdf · June 2010 -D Beginning June 6 Summer Worship Hours will be 8:30 AM and 10:20 AM Sunday in recess until Fall](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022042223/5eca22d91fbcd61091662f83/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Perspective, continued…
Do we hurry to others to tell them what we have found and share the riches of Christ?
That is our call as disciples of Jesus Christ—to go and tell his story of redeeming love demonstrated in his life and in his death on the cross. That is our mission: to make disciples of Christ who are changing our world for the better. Life in Jesus Christ is too good to keep, isn‘t it? Who will you tell? Who will you invite to church?
You have great news to share—go and tell the good news wherever and whenever you can!

SPRING “TOUR & TEA”
FUNDRAISER A „HUGE SUCCESS‟
The Spring Tea fundraiser was a
fantastic success due to the cooperation of
many of our church members. As Chair-
man, I wish to thank all who participated,
in particular Rachel Wood, Lorraine
French, Nancy Kennedy, Marge Walls,
Judy Lincicum and the members of our
UMW (who always come through in the
kitchen). Thanks to Gail Harringa and
Valerie LaFrenz for help with decorating
and tickets, to the mini-bazaar folks who
contributed above and beyond in efforts to
bring our total to that shown below. I am
proud to have had the opportunity to
work with such dedicated and competent
individuals. Thanks to all of you who
participated—from offering your house to
bringing cookies and candies, delivering
posters, showing houses, serving tea,
making May Baskets and phone calls… to
offering suggestions.You are all extremely
important in carrying out such a big
project. Yours in Christ, Donna Miller

Spend a While on the Nile
In August we‘re taking a journey to
ancient Egypt… without leaving our
church. Find out what happened to
Joseph as he went from Pharaoh‘s prison to the Palace. Each day at
Vacation Bible School (Sunday,
August 1st through Thursday, August
5th, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM), children
ages 3 years old through 5th grade will
become part of history as we see, hear, touch, and even taste what it was like
in Pharaoh‘s empire. We‘ll explore an
authentic marketplace, visit Joseph (in
Pharaoh‘s prison and then in Pharaoh‘s
palace!), take part in games and dance to lively music, and sample tasty tidbits
as we discover how God stayed with
Joseph in good times and bad.
Youth and adults can get ―wrapped
up‖ in the fun too! Be a Shopkeeper in
the Egyptian Market, a Pyramid Playground Leader, a Family Leader,
our Egyptian Photographer, or our
Egyptian Architect and Interior
Decorator (www.clearlakeumc.org).
