As with all academic activities conducted by the IAP-ID the CME was of the highest standard and excellent in content and its conduct and attracted a large number of delegates from all over the country. On behalf of the IAP-ID our thanks are due to Dr. Manoj Singh and his team for the excellent Programme. It is indeed heartening to see the whole hearted and active participation of the members in attending the various academic programmes of the IAP-ID. Coming up soon in September is the IAP-ID Annual CME on the very important theme of “Diabetes” and will be held at the M. S. Ramiah Medical College, Bangalore, and after that the Annual Conference in December at Hyderabad. Both these meetings promise to be very interesting and useful and I am sure that the members of the IAP-ID would actively participate and make full use of these excellent opportunities to update their knowledge with the latest in the field as well as use these meetings as a forum to exchange their views and experiences with others. My dear friends,

Greetings and best wishes to you all. This academic activities of IAP-ID for

2010 was off to a flying start with the highly successful Mid Year Teaching

Programme on “Fluorescence in Pathology” held at All India Institute of

Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, in May. As with all academic activities

conducted by the IAP-ID the CME was of the highest standard and excellent in content

and its conduct and attracted a large number of delegates from all over the country. On

behalf of the IAP-ID our thanks are due to Dr. Manoj Singh and his team for the excellent

Programme. It is indeed heartening to see the whole hearted and active participation of

the members in attending the various academic programmes of the IAP-ID.

Coming up soon in September is the IAP-ID Annual CME on the very important

theme of “Diabetes” and will be held at the M. S. Ramiah Medical College, Bangalore,

and after that the Annual Conference in December at Hyderabad. Both these meetings

This year for the IAP-ID Annual Meeting 2010 at Katriya Hotel & Towers, Hyderabad, in December

this year our invited Guest Speaker will be Prof. Dr. H. K. Ng, Associate Dean (Education) and Chair Professor

of Anatomical & Cellular Pathology, Chief of Service and Chairman, Department of Anatomical & Cellular

Pathology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Hong Kong. The IAP-ID is deeply honoured and

happy to have Prof. H. K. Ng attend the Meeting. A brief biodata of Prof. H. K. Ng is given here under for

Prof. Dr. H. K. Ng is currently the Associate Dean(Education) and Chair Professor of Anatomical & CellularPathology, Chief of Service and Chairman, Department ofAnatomical & Cellular Pathology, The Chinese University ofHong Kong (CUHK); Vice Director, State Key Laboratory forOncology (South China), China. He had his career appointmentsall at the Department of Anatomical & Cellular Pathology, theChinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong and was AssistantProfessor (Lecturer) in 1983, Senior Lecturer (AssociateProfessor) in 1990, Professor (Reader) in 1994 and ChairProfessor in 2000

Dr. H. K. Ng had his Medical Education at the EdinburghUniversity, U.K. (1977-82) from where he graduated MB ChB,with Distinctions in Pathology and Bacteriology and thenDoctor of Medicine (by research) from the Chinese Universityof Hong Kong in 1992.

Dr. H. K. Ng has great Administrative Experience and hasbeen Associate Dean (Education ) 2004-; Chairman, UniversityDepartment 1999-; Chief of Service, Hospital PathologyDepartment at Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong, 1999-;and, Vice-Director, State Key Laboratory On Oncology (SouthChina), China, 2006-. He has Licensures from Britain (1983)and Hong Kong (1983). He has shouldered major administrativeresponsibilities for Chinese University of Hong Kong beingAssociate Dean (Education), Faculty of Medicine 2004-;Chairman, Department of Anatomical & Cellular Pathology,Faculty of Medicine 1999-; Chief of Service, Department ofAnatomical & Cellular Pathology, Prince of Wales Hospital1999-; Chairman, Year 3 Committee, Faculty of Medicine 2000-; Member, Senate Committee on Teaching and Learning 2005-; Member, Doctor of Medicine Committee 2002-; and, Member,University Extension Board 2009-.

Prof. H. K. Ng has had a distinguished career and inrecognition of his great achievements and contributions hehas been awarded several Awards like the Gold Medal,International Academy of Pathology, 2006; Honorary Award,Chinese Society of Pathology 2003; and, Award forDistinguished Service, Chinese Journal of Pathology, 2006.

He is a member of several professional societies namelyAmerican Association of Neuropathologists; British Society ofNeuropathologists; Australian and New Zealand Society ofNeuropathologists; Association of Directors of AnatomicPathology and Surgical Pathology (USA); Association ofDirectors of Pathology of China ; United States and CanadianAcademy of Pathology; and, American Association of CancerResearch.

Dr. H. K. IAP-ID Academic Activities 2011

The IAP-ID has the following programmes

during the course of the year:

· Mid Year Teaching Programme (usually a

Workshop)

· IAP-ID Annual CME

· Annual Meeting (usually held in conjunction

with IAPM Meeting) having a Symposium

and Slide Seminar.

Those members desirous of organizing

and hosting the Mid Year Teaching Programme

2011 or the 14th IAP-ID Annual CME 2011

should send their concrete proposals with the

theme of the meeting to the Secretary &

Treasurer, Dr. Krishna Balachandran Nair.

For the Annual Meeting 2011 (held along

with the IAPM Conference), those desirous of

being Moderators for the Symposium or Slide

Seminar should send in their names along with

the proposed title of the Symposium and Slide

Seminar to the Secretary & Treasurer, IAP-ID.

Also as per the decision of the General Body of

the IAP-ID certain topics have been suggested

as possible subjects for the Slide Seminar and

Symposium. Members desirous of being

Moderators for any of these topics should send

their names to the Secretary & Treasurer,

IAP-ID. However, as per the decision of the

Council and General Body of the IAP-ID, the

person selected as the moderator shall be the

one who is felt to be best suited to be for the

particular topic of the Symposium or Slide

Seminar.

All proposals should reach the Secretary

& Treasurer, IAP-ID, by 15th October 2010, so

as the same proposals could be discussed and

approved by the Council and General Body of

the IAP-ID.

I am very happy to present this issue of IAP ID

Newsletter Vol 13 No. 2 July 2010 incorporating all

the events in the Indian division of IAP as well as

the providing information on the forthcoming

activities.

As you all know newsletters keeps all the

members updated about the activities of the

organisation I earnestly request all members to send

the inputs to me so that relavant material can be

put in.

Medical Sciences (AIIMS),

New Delhi, on the topic

“Fluorescence in Pathology”.

Dr. Manoj K. Singh was the

Organizing Secretary. The CME

was inaugurated by Prof. Rani

Kumar, Dean, AIIMS, New

Delhi, in the distinguished

presence of Dr. Francisco

Couto (President, IAP-ID), Dr. Chitra Sarkar (Acting

HOD, Pathology, AIIMS), Dr. Manoj K. Singh

(Organizing Secretary), Dr. Amit K. Dinda (Treasurer)

and other dignitaries. The Programme was very well

attended and had more than 200 delegates attending

from all over the country. All aspects of Fluorescence

in Pathology and its utility and applications in various

diseases were very well covered by the distinguished

Disorders”, “Autoimmune Lung Disorders”,

Importance of Immunofluorescence: a clinical

perspective”, “FISH”, “Detection of organisms,

Mycobacteria, Parasites, others”, “The Future

of Fluorescence”. There were Microscopy sessions

also conducted were in delegates were shown

glass slides of actual lesions and various

fluorescent applications. The microscopy sessions

were conducted by Dr. P. Das, Dr. Shipra, Dr. Priti C,

Dr. Seema, Dr. Arvind and Dr. Narender.

A “Proceedings Booklet” encapsulating the

scientific content of the CME was distributed to the

delegates by the Organizers. The Programme was

excellent and extremely well organized and

conducted and was very fruitful for all the

participants. At the short Valedictory function Dr.

Francisco Couto (President, IAP-ID) conveyed the

appreciation and thanks of the IAP-ID to Dr. Manoj

Singh (Organizing Secretary) and his team for

organizing the Programme. On the 24th May 2010,

as a continuation of the Programme, a Faculty

Training Workshop was conducted for a select group

of senior Pathologists by Dr. Manoj K. Singh and Dr.

Amit Dinda with participation of the Faculty of the

Mid Year Programme on “Setting up a Diagnostic

Immuno Fluorescence Laboratory”. This workshop

was inaugurated by Prof. V. M. Katoch, Director

General ICMR, in the distinguished presence of Prof.

Rani Kumar (Dean, AIIMS) and other dignitaries and

was also a great success.

IAP-ID Associate Members

Membership of the IAP-ID as Associate Members has been started from this year for Post Graduate students

in Pathology and others. These Associate Members would have no voting rights or other statutory rights of full

members and would have to become full members of the IAP-ID on attaining their post graduate qualification.

Dear Friends

My warm greetings and best wishes to

you all. I extend a warm welcome to all the

new members of IAP-ID who have joined

recently I look forward to their active

participation and contribution to to the activities of the

division.

The IAP-ID always focuses to have interesting

and excellent academic activities and this attracts

increasing number of new members. The members are

the strength of the division, and they make the division

grow and develop.

The Mid Year Teaching Programme was held in

New Delhi on 22nd and 23rd May 2010 at the Department

of Pathology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences

(AIIMS), New Delhi, on the topic “Fluorescence in Pathology”.

Dr. Manoj K. Singh was the Organizing Secretary. The CME

was inaugurated by Prof. Rani Kumar, Dean, AIIMS,

New Delhi, in the distinguished presence of Dr. Francisco

Couto (President, IAP-ID), Dr. Chitra Sarkar (Acting HOD,

Pathology, AIIMS), Dr. Manoj K. Singh (Organizing

Secretary), Dr. Amit K. Dinda (Treasurer) and other

dignitaries. The Programme was very well attended and

had more than 200 delegates attending from all over the

country. A teaching programme was a fruitful one and

on behalf of the IAP-ID and on my personal behalf

I profusely thank Dr. Manoj K. Singh organizing Secretary

of the programme and I also wish to thank all the faculty

members of the programme and delegates who made

the event a great success.

Later this year we are havingly the annual CME

(IAP-ID 13th Annual CME) will be held on 5th September

2010 at the M. S. Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore, on

the theme “An update on Diabetes Mellitus”. The Organizing

Secretary will be Dr. Nanda Kishore Alva and the Scientific

Co-Ordinator of the CME will be Dr. Sujay Prasad.

I sincerely request the members to attend the CME and

Our annual conference will be held at

Hyderabad along with Apcon 2010. I look forward to

meet you all at Hyderabad. I sincerely thank Dr. John

Marshall Johnson for all his efforts to maintain the
