Our Parent Council

Snow Clearing Equipment - Our Parent Council have been so supportive and ably led by Mr Simon Ruddy, have launched a crowd funding campaign to buy snow clearing equipment for the winter months. Aberdeenshire Council are fully committed to clearing the road approaches to the school, but the campus itself is our responsibility. The kit that we used for the previous school is very old and at the end of its life and really not fit for purpose for this huge campus, so we are encouraging everyone to support us with in partnership with our Parent Council to raise enough money to purchase new equipment to make the campus car parks and paths safer for all who use them. Parental Impact Team

Fantastic Pupil Achievements in "The Ellon Academy Memorial Community Garden" (TEAM CG).

Pupil success was celebrated with an awards ceremony in the garden. TV presenter Jim McColl attended last Friday afternoon to give pupils their awards and visit our community garden.

To support us in increasing Parental

Involvement we have formed a Parents

Impact Team with members of the

Parent Council and over the next few

months we will be looking at how we

improve communications and how

parents can support Growth Mindset at

home to further support our pupils in

school. Watch this space

Sports Colours Awards 2018

On Wednesday 10th October the annual Sports Colours awards took place in the Ellon Academy Theatre and was

attended by proud pupils, parents, carers, friends and staff. Our Higher and Advanced Higher Senior Dance

pupils gave a stunning practical display of their work and gymnastics display and all credit to Lucy Conner who

choreographed the routine.

Pupils have been awarded Half Colours Full Colours and Full Colours with Distinction as an accumulation of

participation and leadership in EASA affiliated sporting activities and are proud to wear their new ties in

recognition of these achievements.

Thanks to Mr McLachlan DHT who opened the evening with inspiring words and to Mr C Wood, PE Teacher who

piped our pupils into the Theatre. Our guest speaker Mr Alex Duncan who is a Depute Head Teacher at

Bucksburn Academy and an experienced and celebrated Rugby Coach, gave an inspiring address and we were

honoured to receive a very special surprise guest Scottish/Team GB Olympic swimmer Hannah Miley who spoke

of how impressed she was of our pupils and staff in the Health and Wellbeing Faculty. Thanks also is due to our

Hospitality pupils and staff who provided lovely cakes and refreshments after the ceremony and to all the Health

and Wellbeing staff, EASA Committee and Mr C McLean for making the event so special.

Here’s a recent quote from a satisfied parent who contacted them for support:

“I just wanted to let you know that I've been having a really good experience with the XPressions support team. I've been having a nice conversation via email with a man who tells me I've managed to find a bug in the system and they are pushing out an emergency update to fix it. He has been really helpful.”

Looking forward to another successful and productive term.
