Smoke continues to roll down to the states as western Canada faces another day of wildfires and smoky skies, with Saskatchewan the worst hit. The smoke from these fires there are 112 active fires in Saskatchewan and British Columbia has now exploded with 184 fires since Friday has risen above 20,000 feet, and the jet stream has been acting like a highway and transporting that smoke all across Canada and the U.S. Some 13,000 people have had to be evacuated from the north of Saskatchewan, almost 8,000 of those over the weekend, theirs largest-ever wildfire evacuation. In B.C., at least one person has died fighting the fires. The Canadian military has been called in, the skies remain filled with smoke, and the weather is not expected to do much to help firefighters. The National Weather Service reports that smoke from Canada has been recorded all the way to the U.S. Atlantic Coast. While it hasnt been heavy enough that far out to cause health concerns yet, it has blessed residents with some fiery red sunrises and sunsets.

by Marisa Lipsey Glasgow area youth and concerned citizens are invited to join the Montana Spay/Neuter Task Force at the invitation of the City of Glasgow to celebrate Glasgow Spay Days, a no-cost, large volume spay and neuter event on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14th & 15th. For Hi-Line families in need and their pets, local volunteers and pet owners will come together with community business, civic, and elected leaders to make a difference for the health and well-being of pets in Valley County. The Spay Days event will take place at the Valley Event Center at the Fairgrounds in Glasgow from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. Our community continues to come together to address pet overpopulation and neglect. This is the message of the Montana Spay/Neuter Task Force, which has visited Glasgow for community events several times over the last few years, spaying and neutering hundreds of dogs and cats. In 2011, the Task Force assisted our community with a barnstorming event, spaying and neutering 186 semi-feral barn cats in North Valley County. This success was followed by dog and cat events in the city of Glasgow in 2012 and 2013. The 2014 Spay Days event served 147 cats and 81 dogs that would not otherwise have been spayed or neutered, preventing the birth of hundreds of unwanted animals. This years event will continue to demonstrate that by working together to solve a problem, attitudes and behavior can be changed for the benefit of pets, owners and neighbors. Large-volume events such as this cannot provide

specific appointment times, so the two days will be divided into several larger appointment blocks. Participants signing up in advance will receive priority, and walk-ins will be accepted only if time allows. We are also looking for volunteers of every age and ability for several helper jobs throughout the event that range from tending the animals in recovery to helping with laundry and clean-up. Glasgow Spay Days is intended to raise awareness and to assist pet owners in need, not to compete with our veterinarians. If you can afford to do so, you can best help our effort by scheduling an appointment with your local vet and allowing this event to serve those who need it most. Youth and adults are encouraged to volunteer or to make an appointment. Join our facebook group to sign up online and for the most up-to-date information by visiting www.facebook.com and searching Glasgow Spay-Neuter Event. Or by phone, contact Ellie Kent (530) 514 0800 Cindy Ramsbacher (406) 263-9255 or Marisa Lipsey (406) 552-9154. To contact the Spay-Neuter Task Force directly, call (406) 640-3182.

About Eva Kor Eva Mozes Kor is a survivor of the Holocaust, a forgiveness advocate, and a revered public speaker. Powered by a never-give-up attitude, Eva has emerged through a life filled with trauma as a brilliant example of the power of the human spirit to overcome. She is a community leader, a champion of human rights, and a tireless educator of young people. In 1944, Eva and her family were loaded into a cattle car packed with other Jewish prisoners and transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Eva and her twin sister Miriam were just 10 years old. At Auschwitz, the girls were ripped apart from their mother, father, and two older sisters, never to see any of them ever again. Eva and Miriam became part of a group of children used as human guinea pigs in genetic experiments, under the direction of the now-infamous Dr. Josef Mengele. Approximately 1,500 sets of twins were abused, and most died as a result of these experiments. Eva herself became gravely ill, but through sheer determination, she stayed alive and helped Miriam survive. Approximately 200 children were found alive by the Soviet Army at the liberation of the camp on January 27, 1945. The majority of the children were Mengele twins. Eva and Miriam Mozes were among them. In 1995, Eva opened CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Terre Haute, Indiana, with a mission to prevent prejudice and hatred through education about the Holocaust. Thousands of people, including many school groups, have visited CANDLES since it opened. In 2003, the museum was destroyed by a hate-filled arsonist. Eva vowed to rebuild, and with the help of a generous public outpouring of support, the museum was rebuilt and reopened in 2005. Eva has delivered her message all over the world, including several times in Germany, Israel, and Poland, and was a featured speaker at the 10th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa. Her story is documented in the award-winning film Forgiving Dr. Mengele and the popular young adult book Surviving the Angel of Death: The Story of a Mengele Twin in Auschwitz.

Pictured at right is Sarah Partridge with Eva Kor pointing to herself in the front row of the Liberation photograph, taken by the Soviets when they liberated Auschwitz in 1944. Time spent with Eva was a truly live-changing experience, Sarah said.

This is the international Holocaust Monument constructed between the ruins of the crematoriums of Birkenau.
