Regional tennis at Tamworth was also a great experience for two MPS students, Georgina Quinlan and James Fitzgerald. Congratulations to both students for their fine effort – they tried very hard, facing some stiff competition on the court from players around the north west. Well done and thank you to Mrs Kaukiainen who attended as the Moree zone manager. PSSA cricket knockout Round 1 proved to be a nail biter! The winning margin was just 17 runs and with a solid lunch time training preparation, the MPS team came home with the win. Congratulations, Callum Cooper, Lachlan Muggleton, Sam Dunlop, James Fitzgerald, Darcy Brazel, Kobie Annis-Brown, Ben DiDonna, Mitch Beddoes, Tom Colbran, Raymor Honour, Jack McDonald, and Ambrose Swan and coach, Mr Cooper. On Time Ready to Learn - Punctuality is an important quality for all of us to have and it is something that children need to have modelled for them so that they can learn. In our lives we need to get to appointments on time, we need to get to work on time and children need to get to school on time. I grow increasingly concerned about the number of children arriving late to school. Children who arrive late to school miss valuable learning activities such as reading groups and the morning assembly when children are reminded of daily events including sport training. They also disrupt lessons as they come into the room late – greetings and roll marking are all necessary. Parents - please ensure your children arrive on time and ready to learn. Young Leaders Day held in Brisbane has been a highlight on our senior leadership calendar for many years. It is an opportunity to participate and interact with other young leaders from around Australia. The MPS team enjoyed every minute of the experience, learning from and motivated by speakers including, author / illustrator Matt Cosgrove, humanitarian Tim Diamond, Olympic swimmer Cate Campbell and inspirational speaker John Coutis. While some of the leadership skills comes from natural talent most leadership skills are learned. It is pleasing that our student leaders take every opportunity to learn through the opportunities that the school provides. This year our school was represented by Phoebe Tydd, Harriet Beattie Sophie Rogers, Ruby Humphries, Lachlan Muggleton, Milos Stanojevic, Lucy Kilner, Talara Munro, Chloe Elbourne and Ben DiDonna. Take a moment to read the fantastic reports attached – you too, will be inspired by our students. Appreciation to Miss Carlin for accompanying the group. Selective High School: Best wishes to the students sitting the selective high school test on Thursday, for Year 7 in 2020.

6. REGIONAL SWIMMING CARNIVAL

On Monday 4th March, 23 MPS students and their parents headed to Armidale to compete in the north west swimming carnival. The day turned out to be a very successful one where everyone did their best, represented the district and school with pride and many achieving their personal best times.

I was impressed with the fantastic sportsmanship as MPS children encouraged one another and especially included the students from schools within the Moree district.

Congratulations to: Ben DiDonna, Henry Johnston, Mitchell Beddoes, Jonah James, Will Johnston, Jack Rogers, Kobi Annis-Brown, Darcy Brazel, Will Gillingham, Chloe Elbourne, Camilla Johnston, Emma Maunder, Isobel Lavery, Rose Mealing, Savannah French, Emma Tydd, Georgina Quinlan, Abbey Muggleton, Harriet Beattie, Shyanne Roberts, Ashley Odero, Paige Bowerman, Phoebe Tydd

A special mention goes to Chloe Elbourne, Ben DiDonna, Mitchell Beddoes, Kobi Annis-Brown and Darcy Brazel.

These dedicated and talented swimmers will now go on to represent the north west in Sydney on the 11th & 12th April of this term to compete in the State Swimming Championships.

Thank you to all parents who supported their children at this event, it is a long way and a long day – but a great experience that I am sure the students will remember for many years. Mr Burgess

Ten of our school leaders and year 6 mediators travelled to Brisbane on Friday 1st March and enjoyed a day of inspiring speakers on the subject of LEADERSHIP. Students joined approximately 3 000 students mainly from around Queensland and Northern NSW to learn about the qualities needed to make a great leader. They made the most of their experience and represented Moree Public School admirably. An enormous thank you to parents who made travel and accommodation possible for this very special day. Below is a snapshot of some of the things they learnt whilst at the conference.

…has always had a passion for books and as a child carried a pen and paper in his bag at the ready for any opportunity to draw. He always wanted to be a children’s author and illustrator because it combined his two loves - writing and drawing. However, it has taken Persistence and Practise to finally achieve his dream. He is the author and illustrator of various children’s picture books including ‘Macca the Alpaca’ series and has recently had published the ‘Epic Fail Tales’ series. Matt has always been petrified of doing public speaking, but he has persevered. He said it is important to have People around you to support, be Positive and see the glass as half full, use your Power of imagination and stick to what you are good at. Matt said to find your Passion and set yourself realistic goals.

… is the General Manager of the humanitarian organisation called Cotton on Foundation. This charity raises money to build sustainable schools for children around the world but specifically Uganda, a quality education gives a child the chance to reach their potential and change the world! He has made over 60 trips himself to Uganda and is passionate about improving the lives of children. They have raised $90 million dollars so far to help children across the globe including isolated areas of the Northern Territory. Tim said he is doing his dream job, he said that being a dad to his 4 boys would be the only other job he would want. Ruby Humphries, Lachlan Muggleton & Milos Stanojevic

…was born with a physical disability because of spina bifida and the doctors said he wouldn’t live past the week, but they were wrong! He didn’t start school until grade 5 and found making friends challenging. Despite being bullied terribly as a school boy, his loving family helped him to have a positive outlook on life and overcome adversity, his sense of humour has carried him through many tough times. He said that no matter how tough life gets, be the best you can be, push forward and go out of your comfort zone. He encouraged us never to give up and believe that we can achieve what seems impossible. Lucy Kilner & Talara Munro

… started swimming when she moved to Australia from Malawi, Aftrica at the age of 9. She trained very hard with her sister Bronte from 5am-7am and 5pm-7pm after finishing a day at school. Cate has represented Australia at numerous Commonwealth and Olympic Games, winning medals that she feels was a reward for all the hardwork, effort and sacrifice. She brought swimming equipment to represent aspects of her success: GOGGLES = see straight ahead to the goals you have set, don’t run into obstacles PULL BOUY = problems and setbacks can be turned into opportunities STOPWATCH = someone to check in with what you are doing, a person who has your best interests at heart SQUAD MATES = encouragers who have a shared vision, choose your ‘team’ wisely
