HARPER P M went from a sprint to a route second time out but was traveling much too quickly on the front end and understandably weakened; when he cut back to a sprint last time, he took a position of prominence on the early pace but the speed runners in that race finished in the final two positions; he was finally eighth. ONE MORE DRIFT a debut runner for David Bell is by, Jimmy Creed, a winner of the Grade 1 Malibu at Santa Anita; he has picked up his training with a couple of late November works including a move November 17 th in 1.00.2 when he beat company. DISTINCT PASSION debuted November 11 th and was a Tapeta track only entrant and when the race came off the grass he had a chance to start from the widest post; it was a challenging trip and he finished third against a well regarded Casse winner; he is looking for smoother passage here. JOHNNY BAYI has been in a couple of auctions but will debut here as a homebred for Track West Racing; he is by, Bodemeister, a winner of the Arkansas Derby; he has prepped exclusively from the gate since late October getting ready for Dan Vella. YOU’RE BATMAN a second representative here for Reade Baker, will debut at six furlongs and is from the same dam who produced the five time stakes winner, Sweater Weather; he will travel six furlongs at first asking with Jorge Espitia; he has been prepared on the training track. STORMY ACTION a debut runner for Roger Attfield, was an auction purchase and is a full brother to the recent runner, Bearsatlanticmist; he worked November 18 th in 1.01.4 getting ready; Campbell rides from the outside. RACE #2 BANNON 9 MY RAY OF SUNSHINE 1 SILVER RING 5 RED HOT LOVE 7 LOOKINGFORANEWSPOT SILVER RING competed for $10,000 in this category last time and came four wide with a furlong remaining and finished to the outside of three rivals on the wire and missed narrowly; she looks like a contender; Hernandez is brought in. LEIGHLIN ROAD was off her feet in a race October 13 th at six and a half furlongs at this price range and now comes off the shelf. SHEZ A TEN I KNOW finished along the inside with some courage in an event for non winners of two last time and now faces non winners of three seeking her second win. ITS A LADY’S WORLD was moving late on the outside last time at seven furlongs but hung in second; she cuts back by a furlong. RED HOT LOVE had the misfortune of entering August 5 th in the same race where, The Craic, dropped in to take an enormous edge; she finished an ok fourth to that rival who now competes at the first allowance plateau; for her part, she went to Fort Erie and dropped in for $8,000 last time and won at 2-5; she indicates two returning works getting ready for this race. CANDY PHIL came outside from sixth at the top of the stretch last time for $10,000 against some of these and finished just on the edges with, Silver Ring, second and, My Ray Of Sunshine, third. LOOKINGFORANEWSPOT had poor form but came off the shelf November 10 th and circled rivals from ninth to win going away against non winners of two; both the fifth and sixth place finishers have come back to win; she drops down getting ready to face non winners of three; Garcia rides once again. SWEET RHAPSODY takes the big plunge; she had productive form at lower levels earlier but climbed the ladder in late summer; however, after consecutive out of the money finishes, she now runs cheaper than ever before. MY RAY OF SUNSHINE has had excusable trips in her last two events; she had trouble at the gate in her previous event and swung wide off the turn; most recently, she had difficulty trying to squeeze between rivals in the stretch and finished a frustrated third as the favourite just behind, Silver Ring. RACE #3 BANNON 8 VINTAGE TIME 4 SUPREME COMMANDER 6 MIND MAGIC 2 MALIBU WOOD CAPE ZAVATA will be going from six furlongs to a route and jumping in value following four consecutive out of the money finishes. MALIBU WOOD is trying to find his best level; he dropped for $15,000 two starts ago but faded late in the stretch against a key winner; after an eighth place finish for $23,500, he now plunges for half that price. CLEVER SOUL dropped a level when he came off the shelf November 10 th and got an opportunity to run from a contending position but he gave way in the stretch; the winner has come back to drop down and take an edge and win again; he drops a level. SUPREME COMMANDER was able to win October 20 th with a dream trip getting through on the inside on the final turn at this price; most recently, he was sluggish in the early going against slow fractions and closed belatedly against a good late pace and attracted a claim; he now goes for Norm McKnight. PISTON BROKE moved on the tougher footing outside last time and was finally beaten six lengths for just $5,000.

LEIGHLIN ROAD was off her feet in a race October 13th at six and a half furlongs at this price range and now comes off the shelf. SHEZ A TEN I KNOW finished along the inside with some courage in an event for non winners of two last time and now faces non winners of three seeking her second win. ITS A LADY’S WORLD was moving late on the outside last time at seven furlongs but hung in second; she cuts back by a furlong. RED HOT LOVE had the misfortune of entering August 5th in the same race where, The Craic, dropped in to take an enormous edge; she finished an ok fourth to that rival who now competes at the first allowance plateau; for her part, she went to Fort Erie and dropped in for $8,000 last time and won at 2-5; she indicates two returning works getting ready for this race.

CLEVER SOUL dropped a level when he came off the shelf November 10th and got an opportunity to run from a contending position but he gave way in the stretch; the winner has come back to drop down and take an edge and win again; he drops a level. PISTON BROKE moved on the tougher footing outside last time and was finally beaten six lengths for just $5,000.

JIM BANNON’S JOURNAL DECEMBER 3RD, 2017

MIND MAGIC dropped in for $10,000 and came off the shelf November 11th and ran well in third; the race was dominated by two huge long shots and this one reported in third; he is still seeking his first win of the year. EASY INDYGO last competed October 20th and was driving on the far turn and finished a distant third against, Supreme Commander. VINTAGE TIME beat non winners of three two starts ago for $19,000; most recently, he got behind a wall of runners in a drafting position and finished sixth beaten three lengths for $23,500; he runs for half that price here. TH ORIGINAL SCOTTY went from a series of routes to seven furlongs to sharpen up last time; he closed late which should be a good primer for this longer distance.

RACE #4 BANNON 3 HE STARTED IT 5 HYTHE 8 ARAZI’S GIFT 10 AFTER PARTY RARE APPEAL was second best behind, Red Bo, two starts ago then came back to take a maiden win last time with a deep closing style from the outside and showed improvement for Jason Marrocco. FIERY BEAR dropped down for his latest but showed little when, Fine Grit, was better in second. HE STARTED IT had a good enough race two starts ago when he came off the shelf for $19,000 but he hung; he cut back from a route to a sprint last time and committed to a cluttered rail where he didn’t have much racing luck; he gets back to a route with a big drop in value for $9,500. FINE GRIT was in cheaper than this last time but performed well with an outside close and quickened late to be second beaten a half length. HYTHE competed at a route for $9,500 against non winners of two last time and had a good rally but the winner was superior and he finished second. STREET LEGAL dropped from $20,000 to the $10,000 level last time and embarked on a harsh pace duel with a half in 47.2; he won the front end fight but then he had no resistance in the home lane. SLAM came off the shelf November 19th at seven furlongs and closed from twelfth to be fourth and now extends in distance. ARAZI’S GIFT has committed to turf for three consecutive races and narrowly missed two starts ago then won last time for maiden $19,000 at seven furlongs; he makes changes here going long on Tapeta for just $10,000. RED BO was the 3-5 favourite November 3rd when dropped for $8,000 and he was able to race closer to the pace against reachable runners and beat, Rare Appeal, who has already come back to score; he attracted a claim and now goes for Katrina Vassilieva. AFTER PARTY took a win for maiden $12,500 two starts ago at seven furlongs with a deep closing style; most recently, he moved more in the middle stages and finished on the edges in a tough spot; he now stretches to a route and handled it well enough back in mid October. THORNLEY dropped down last time and was expected to do better but he was a disappointment; he comes from the outside post here.

RACE #5 BANNON 9 SAMS DESTINY - BEST BET 6 SOUTH BEACH SASSY 2 MEGALOPSYCHIA 8 SWEET SILENT SOUL SOUTHERN DANCER a debut runner for Michael McDonald, will try two turns at first asking in this middle claiming evaluation and has the rail; Bahen is typically associated with this stable and will be aboard here for this launch. MEGALOPSYCHIA has been in the money in consecutive events; she went from a route to a seven furlong race for $25,000 last time where she started up and ran well through the stretch to be second against a winner taking a big edge with a drop; she now goes from a sprint to a route. WESTLODGE DIVA competed last time on the same card at the same distance as, Megalopsychia, but in a different race and did not earn a rating that measured up; she was sixth beaten four and a half lengths; she will now get back to a route. AWESOMEENDSWITHME was in a maiden special event last time when going long for the first time; her distribution of energies was costly as she made such a bold move in the middle stages but had nothing left for the stretch drive; she now comes down for $25,000 which should help. KELOWNA CAT broke behind and chased from the second flight in her debut at a short sprint; she now goes long. SOUTH BEACH SASSY ran surprisingly well in her debut at a route to be second for $25,000; she stepped up in value last time and responded ok in the stretch to be ok on the edges when, Sams Destiny, was better in third and that one is here; she fits and Wilson once again has the mount. CORTADO BAY dropped in for $32,000 at a sprint last time and finished fifth beaten about eight lengths as she attempted to start a rally; she now gets to go around two turns for the first time. SWEET SILENT SOUL has been in a pair of sprints against Ontario sire company with early speed; she now goes long with the blinkers on with a big drop for $25,000 for Andrew Smith. SAMS DESTINY is a logical one here; she dropped for $32,000 last time and finished third beaten less than a length when between rivals and, South Beach Sassy, was just a bit farther behind in fifth and that one also looks like a contender.

RACE #6 BANNON 5 ROYAL INTRIGUE 1 ARTHUR’S PASS 2 GRAY PHANTOM 8 NARROW ESCAPE

ARTHUR’S PASS improved first time off the claim for Don MacRae October 17th when beating an all-gray group; most recently in a first allowance race on turf, the winner was stealing away but he chased resolutely in third and maintains his improved form. GRAY PHANTOM had a big win for $25,000 two starts ago when he departed turf and went to Tapeta; he sprinted last time and the hot pace was too much for him but now he goes long. LOOKIN AT BRAVO is getting his first race since the middle of October when he was a distant fourth in this category; running from off the pace was difficult for him and he finished nine lengths back; he had a positive interim work November 19th in 1.02b for Kevin Attard.

JIM BANNON’S JOURNAL DECEMBER 3RD, 2017

FINAL OFFER won two races in six days in early November; his most recently victory November 11th for just $10,000 featured a strong late pace and he attracted a claim by Darren Glennon. ROYAL INTRIGUE had a big race at a route on Tapeta two starts ago when third narrowly beaten against difficult company and the runner up has since gone to Kentucky to win; most recently, he was in against a key winner on turf and finished fourth just a neck behind, Arthur’s Pass, who will also be returning to Tapeta here. FIRE FOR EFFECT had good speed when he relocated here October 14th and he was second best; most recently, he was just on the edges when, Royal Intrigue, was better in third. MAGICAL MAN had early speed then faded last time but in an unusual development, he galloped out with great vigour; his connections will now try him at a route. NARROW ESCAPE was in the Durham and chased the pace and finished third against champion, Melmich; most recently, he was in a key race on Tapeta at the first allowance level and again contributed to the pace before fading.

RACE #7 BANNON 1 DEXTER ROAD 2 SEIZE THE BAY 8 CONFIDENTIALITY 6 ASTUTE WARRIOR

DEXTER ROAD had an excusable journey last time when fourth beaten a length and a half and, Seize The Bay, was better by about a length and he meets that one again here second time off the claim for Denyse McClachrie. SEIZE THE BAY was reserved using a new style last time and he rallied well to be third beaten just a length and the winner has come back to score; he finished just in front of a troubled, Dexter Road, and meets that one here. WILSHIRE STAR has developed a nimble skipping stride on the lead for recent route events at lower levels with good results and now steps up. ROCKET PLAN had no trouble beating non winners of two last time for $10,000 and now looks to double in price with Simon Husbands once again up for John LeBlanc Jr. REBEL MUSIC got down for $9,500 last time but did not come out of the gate effectively. ASTUTE WARRIOR is brought in by a high percentage trainer and last time campaigned in August at Saratoga when out of the money on turf but prior to that, had run well on the Tapeta surface at Presque Isle; the stable does well with layoff runners. ALLIED INSTIGATOR attracted a claim for $10,000 last time when a weakening third and now doubles in price and extends in distance. CONFIDENTIALITY looks like a threat; he attracted a claim for this very price October 22nd when he beat none winners of two; he stayed back of a pace that was too fast and then took over late; Wilson knows this one and rides for Denyse McClachrie who also has Dexter Road in the race. BANGOR RIDGE dropped for $10,000 last time at a sprint and provided a generous response to rally and win at long odds; the second and seventh place finishers have come back to win; he stretches back to a route for $20,000.

RACE #8 BANNON 6 DIXIE MOON 1 QUEEN’S FATE 5 LUNAR GARDEN 7 LOOPETY LOO QUEEN’S FATE is a welcomed visitor for Maxis Stable and Michael Maker; she debuted on the turf at Kentucky Downs with a rally and then second time out, won on the turf at Keeneland; she came from the inside post and angled out for the stretch drive to get the lead and then held off closing longshot, Lemon Princess; she has been training in Kentucky getting ready; she moves to Tapeta. SAFE TO SAY is one of two entered for Mark Casse and was third in the Princess Elizabeth last time; she steadied late between rivals in that event; she had indicated a late run in a sprint the time before; she has done her recent prepping in company with, Loopety Loo; she competes for Gary Barber and Windways Farm. GOSUDARINA a homebred for Goldmart Farms has performed well for Robert Tiller taking a maiden win November 4th; then came back in the restricted South Ocean last time where he started a run midway of the second turn and she was finally second beaten a half length and she stayed well; this condition is more wide open because Ontario bred runners are allowed in. FAIRY HILL dropped in for $25,000 to ensure a victory November 19th and following some time off, she was ready for Steve Owens and moved strongly on the inside to win it; she attracted a claim and now goes for Bruno Schickedanz and Norm McKnight. LUNAR GARDEN a homebred for Chiefswood Stable, is gradually developing; her opener came in a sprint on turf where she narrowly missed against a key winner who has since come back with an enormous stakes victory; second time out, she went two turns on Tapeta and had the lead late but was beaten by a much improved winner who enjoyed the two turn experience; she now looks for black type. DIXIE MOON waited until the distances lengthened out before she got her career underway with a galloping win at seven furlongs; her race in the Natalma was a strong front end attempt but she was displaced late by an import winner; she beat the boys in the Cup & Saucer in front on turf; most recently, she had a rough trip from a poor post in the Breeders’ Cup in the Juvenile Filly Turf race; a rival came into her path entering the first turn and she had to overcome that difficulty; she moved between rivals with a furlong to go but hung very late in what was still a strong effort; she has breezed easily since coming home; she is a homebred for Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry going for Catherine Day-Phillips. LOOPETY LOO improved second time out with a rousing run from off the pace in a sprint; in her third start, she went two turns and raced on the lead until challenged by the favourite and she lost narrowly to that well regarded rival; the third place finisher who was her stable mate, has come back to win; she has done her recent prepping in company with, Safe To Say, for Mark Casse; she competes for Conrad Farms.

JIM BANNON’S JOURNAL DECEMBER 3RD, 2017

RACE #9 BANNON 3 CITY BOY 7 SAN NICOLA THUNDER 5 CONSTANTINO 8 SLIP KID COLTON’S CORNER captured his first win of this year last time and has enjoyed generally improved form in his last four starts; he now goes to Tapeta looking to transfer his newfound enthusiasm to that footing. SINGANDCRYINDUBAI was developing quite nicely here in late September and early October but a start in the Overskate saw him open a long lead and he folded; most recently, he went to Mahoning Valley to compete and was last in the early going in a race totally dominated by long shots; he finished a non threatening sixth. CITY BOY exits the best race of his career November 3rd in the prep for the Kennedy Road Stakes; he finished second to a difficult winner who came back to be second in the big event and the third place finisher last time came back to be third in the Kennedy Road; he has since had a fast five furlong work for Mike Keogh getting ready for Gustav Schickedanz and partner. BOREAL SPIRIT was second best in the Bold Venture Stakes in the middle of September against a difficult, Ikerrin Road; since that time, he has had a failed try on turf and an unproductive result last time where he tried to run from off the pace without any success. CONSTANTINO had an excusable trip last time and finished out of the money in a race that came off turf; he had run so well the time before to be second behind, San Nicola Thunder. DRAGON’S CRY followed traffic last time with hopes of capitalizing in the stretch run but he wilted in the same race where, Constantino, was marginally better. SAN NICOLA THUNDER has had a bounteous season and was second best last time in the Bunty Lawless behind Mr Havercamp after a wide early trip; he fatigued late in that race and will welcome a turn back to a sprint here; he now moves over to Tapeta and was second on this surface in the Shepperton in August against, Pink Lloyd. SLIP KID has developed nicely since moving over to the Kevin Attard stable recapturing some of his strong earlier velocity that he showed in Chicago; he has now won two in a row and took a starter event last time by skipping away in front in quick time at seven furlongs; he shortens in distance here.

RACE #10 BANNON 1 SUMMER FALLS 2 GEORGIA SWEETS 5 KINZUA 8 OCEAN COURT 7 GOLDEN PINEAPPLE SUMMER FALLS came from England and had history there on the synthetic surfaces; she campaigned here once on turf where she was outrun then dropped down and went to Tapeta last time and landed on the edges; today’s drop for half the price makes her a significant contender. GEORGIA SWEETS was bumped in a chain reaction last time and finally finished fifth against a winner who scored easily; she gets down in value now for a chance to challenge. BLUE PEARLS had a tentative approach through the stretch last time and was finally third beaten a length and a half; she goes from a series of sprints to a route. DIAMOND VISION will be going from a seven furlong race to a route and was going ok through the lane last time when fourth while, Super Chill, was second. KINZUA is just starting to develop; she gets to drop down and stretch out here and is bred to be a stayer; she was bumped at the break last time but she did show some interest galloping out. SUPER CHILL missed the break last time when dropped in for $8,000; she made a significant move into the stretch to get a clear lead then was passed late at enormous odds; she will now go from consecutive sprints to a route. GOLDEN PINEAPPLE will be dropping down; she did not break alertly last time then was subsequently inconvenienced by another and finished far behind; these are more reachable. OCEAN COURT has been around the lower levels with in the money finishes lately; she was battling between rivals last time when third beaten two lengths for $8,000. DELASTE DANCE was slow early last time in a sprint but showed some interest late and now stretches out with the blinkers off. ELDORADO’S SOUL got first run at the lead at a six and a half furlong race last time but hung and will now go farther. SWEET ‘N’ WILD a debut runner for Clint Abraham, has been here prepping since early November getting ready; she is a six year old with some stamina in her pedigree and she will attempt two turns in this launch. EASY BID moved up to try turf last time but couldn’t stay after pressing the pace; she tries an intermediate level here. GABBY’S BALLERINA was on the edges for $7,500 two starts ago then moved up to try turf last time but couldn’t carry her speed effectively and now tries an intermediate level on Tapeta.
