Customised safari trucks and bigger vehicles for tailor-made, larger tours.

Qualified, local, special interest and language guides, all of whom are members of appropriate guiding associations.

Responsible Tourism policy: we make use of eco-friendly lodges, support schools along our travel routes and have a responsible recycling policy at all our offices.

I founded Jenman African Safaris in 1993 with one vehicle, guiding walking safaris in the lower Zambezi, Mana Pools. Since then Jenman Safaris has expanded into 14 African countries, we have employed many more staff, and today most of our partners know me personally around the globe.

Travel in Africa has always been a passion of mine, and fortunately my personal interest and work life are combined. Nevertheless, my team and I never forget that we are arranging your holiday – often a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you have looked forward to, for years in some cases. Hence our company slogan is; Africa: Your Adventure, Our Expertise.

Every season the positive feedback from our clients and agents around the world overwhelms me and motivates all of us at Jenman Safaris to carry on, setting our quality standards higher each year. Today, we not only offer affordable solutions for your once-in-a-lifetime Africa experience, but operate lodge safaris, custom-made honey-moon packages and most other travel related arrangements in Southern Africa, East Africa & Madagascar.

I look forward to many more years of welcoming you on an African experience you will never forget.

TRAVELLING IN AFRICADear Bruce & Anna,

Having a fabulous time on our Botswana holiday. Last night

we slept close to a river - serenaded by a pod of hippos, and during

breakfast this morning a pack of Wild dogs ran through our

campsite. Lucy has vowed to spend tonight in the bar – protected

from the ele’s! Being so close to nature is just amazing – as if

we are sleeping in their home. We are literally in the middle of

Animal Planet! Our guide is brilliant & the kids adore him – he keeps us all

captivated over the fire at night, with hilarious stories and tales of

the bush.

Made a slight detour from the itinerary yesterday thanks to some

flooded camps, but all is good & we are having so much fun. The

beer at new place is cold, the game viewing in abundance and we

are so relaxed.

We can’t wait for our trip to Vic falls – the bungee jump is too

tempting!Take care, & please come with us next time – you won’t regret it!

We run our safaris in keeping with the following guidelines.

TIES (The International Ecotourism Society) defines ecotourism as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.” This means that those who implement and participate in ecotourism activities should follow the following principles:

• Minimize impact • Build environmental and cultural awareness and respect • Provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts • Provide direct financial benefits for conservation • Provide financial benefits and empowerment for local people • Raise sensitivity to host countries’ political, environmental, and social climate • Support international human rights and labor agreements

Local services Where possible we use locally owned and run services and businesses. • Staying in locally owned and run accommodation in preference to foreign owned

hotel chains • Buying our food and supplies from local markets and stores• Supporting local business and income by using locally owned shops and

restaurants, our guides are all African and know the areas they guide in as well as the areas and cultures in which you will travel

Responsible actions We encourage clients through our guides, literature and actions to act in a responsible way towards local people, customs and the environment. Where possible, we support accommodation providers who follow specific eco-tourism principles. For new destinations, we take into consideration environmental, cultural and economic issues.

Low impact By keeping our group sizes small we ensure that our operations do not disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people. Small groups require smaller and less obtrusive support vehicles. By biking and walking, we travel in a low impact manner, both on the environmental, cultural and economic issues.

Environment We take responsibility for our actions in maintaining and improving the environment• Minimizing water and atmospheric pollution and misuse• Minimizing litter and disposing of litter in the best way possible• Employing environmental considerations into all trip and business planning• We upgrade and service our vehicles on a regular basis so that we minimise the

pollution on the environment• We also encourage our guides to use gas to cook with instead of burning firewood

from the areas where they stay overnight. The clients all assist in keeping their travelling environment tidy and clean

Community support A large percentage of our team is from a local community. We support local communities by visiting villages and schools on tour where the clients can make donations or where they can purchase handmade products. Some groups arrange to stay for a period of time in the villages and get involved in community work projects. We can arrange township tours and dinners for travellers, therefore supporting the local community and economy.

ConservationThe activities we arrange help to impart knowledge about wildlife, and educate and enable people to experience and get close to nature. Most of our tours include visits to National Parks which charge a conservation fee and in some cases, a large portion of the entrance fee is given to the local community. In consistently supporting these National Parks throughout Southern Africa, East Africa and Madagascar, we help to further the conservation in the respective areas.

Jenman African Safaris

‘Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day,

teach that man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime’

GROW AFRICA

Running safaris and day-to-day operations in a sustainable and responsible way has always been of great importance to Jenman Safaris. In our experience over the years we have encountered so much beauty on the African continent, and yet there is also enormous poverty all over Africa. In my recent trip to Zimbabwe, the level of poverty that I saw hit home, and made me realise that some very important work needs to be done to address this issue. We at Jenman Safaris believe that we have the ability to make a difference.

In the past, we have seen many charities with good intentions that don’t reach the people in need, or those who only make a short-term difference. Many tour operators who are based overseas want to get involved in sustainable education and interaction, but are not able, thus making sponsorship and charity-aid the only options. Being here, on the African ground, we believe that Jenman African Safaris can get involved in a different way, and to see change happen at a grass-roots level.

Based on the famous quote above, we are aiming to support vegetable and fruit gardens around Cape Town – teaching school-kids how to operate a sustainable and self-sufficient vegetable garden providing education, tools and seeds. At a later stage we are planning to expand this project to other towns in Southern Africa. We have named this project Grow Africa – a sustainable & educational food-growth project empowered by Jenman African Safaris - hoping to make a difference!

CAMPING & UPGRADED CAMPING SAFARIS IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

Semi-ParticipationAll of our Camping & Upgraded Camping Safaris in Southern Africa are semi-participation safaris. We want our clients to be part of the experience and therefore ask them to participate in the tour. This means that travellers will be responsible for performing and helping with certain tasks, such as setting up and breaking down of overnight camps (tents, chairs, tables), packing and unpacking the vehicle, assisting with preparation of meals, and cleaning dishes. The guide will do the cooking and be responsible for all other organisational duties. We can also tailor-make your camping safari to a non-participation camping safari level in Southern Africa!

Camping Safaris, semi-participationYou will spend most nights camping on your safari. We make use of 3-person dome tents with a height of 1.8 m.

Upgraded Camping Safari, semi-participationThis type of safari offers two different levels of accommodation. Clients will spend some of the nights camping and others will be spent in Lodges or Chalets. The group will be a combination of clients booked on a semi-participation Camping Safari, a semi-participation Upgraded Camping Safari, as well as clients booked on our third option – the fully upgraded Safari.

Fully Upgraded Safaris, semi-participationClients booked on this type of safari will stay in Lodges, Chalets and Tented Lodges each night of their safari adventure. The tour group consists of clients who booked on one of the above options. We make use of properties that have camping facilities as well as chalets, lodges or tented camps. Camping, upgraded and fully upgraded clients will travel and enjoy their meals together. The Upgraded Option gives the additional comfort of extra-bedded accommodation. Clients are also asked to help out with the camp duties (setting up and breaking down the overnight camps, chairs, packing and unpacking the vehicle, assisting with preparation of meals and cleaning dishes).

Accommodation

Camping: We make use of designated campsites either within a National Park, on the banks of a river, or other places of interest. All campsites have shared ablution facilities with showers, flushing toilets and running water (unless otherwise specified in the detailed itinerary). Jenman African Safaris tries to avoid crowded campsites and brings you to secluded spots, often supported by the local community. We make use of spacious 3-person dome tents, allowing two per tent. All tents are fitted with Mosquito-screened windows and doors. In addition, we provide 5cm thick sleeping mattresses.

Upgraded Camping Accommodation: For our Upgraded Camping and Fully Upgraded Camping Safaris, we make use of mid-range typical African standard lodge accommodation. Accommodation is situated either in National Parks, on the banks of a river, or in other places of interest. The accommodation will be a mix of lodges, chalets and tented camps. Most of them have a private bathroom with a shower and toilet, whilst others have shared ablutions available. Some properties are equipped with swimming pools and/or bar areas.

Please note that clients booked on the Upgraded Camping Safari will only stay a certain number of nights in lodges, chalets or tented Camps; the remainder of the nights will be camping. Clients who choose our fully upgraded camping options stay in the lodges, chalets or tented chalets each night of their safari.

MealsOn all of the above mentioned safaris, the tour guide will be responsible for the shopping and cooking of all the meals. All clients booked on our Camping Safaris, Upgraded Camping or fully Upgraded Camping Safari will enjoy the same wholesome meals. These meals will be enjoyed together in the evening, often around a camp fire.

Local PaymentOn most of our Safaris a local payment needs to be paid to the guide before the tours starts. Your local payment covers on-the-road expenses, such as National Park entrance fees, excursions and activities, as well as the use of local guides. This provides your guide with sufficient funds on the road and ensures that your money goes directly to the African communities.

Three days fishing boat hire has been included in your package, allowing you to enjoy the remaining two days of surf fishing, kayak fishing, excellent fly fishing off the rocks, or just relaxing! Additional

ski boat hire is available, should you wish for more time out on the ocean. On day 7 you can enjoy more trolling during your transfer from Turtle Bay Camp back to Nosy Be, where you will catch your flight to Antananarivo. Here you will overnight, before flying home the next day.

Turtle Bay Camp is situated on Kalakajoro - the smallest and most northern of the four islands of the Radamas archipelago. Located 90 km south west of Nosy Be, Kalakajoro is home to fish eagles, beautiful coral beds, and spectacular fishing. Just past the continental drop off, one can find Tuna, Barracuda, Sailfish, and Giant Kingfish.

Shore Angling: Turtle Bay Camp is geared to cater for shore-anglers who would like to sample the virtually unexploited stocks of coastal fish that the area offers. The inshore area in close proximity to Turtle Bay Camp is a diverse mixture of rock reef and sand, which provides the ideal habitat for a wide variety of fish.

Off Shore Angling:Fishing along the eastern shelf of the Mozambique channel you will find most of the local pelagic game fish species in abundance, including sailfish, giant trevally, dorado, king mackerel, barracuda, wahoo, large dog tooth tuna, and more.

Fly-fishing:Turtle Bay Camp on Kalakajoro Island is great for the fly fisherman. There are large flats in front of the camp and deep drop-offs around the island (these are accessible on foot or via one of the sea kayaks that are available to go around the island).

Days 1 - 2: Antananarivo to Nosy Be, Madagascar Arriving to Nosy Be airport, you will be met and transferred by taxi to Chanty beach and then by speedboat to Sakatia Towers, which is situated on a small private beach. The next two days will be spent snorkelling, exploring the stunning beach and island on foot and generally relaxing whilst soaking up the sand, sea and sun. Optional activities include guided walks, sea-kayaking, hobie cats or pirogue trips, scuba diving and deep sea fishing trips.

Days 3 - 4: Ambatiloka to Nosy Komba, Madagascar Today we make an early start to Ambatiloka by speed boat and taxi followed by a day excursion with a beach picnic lunch at Nosy Tanikely Marine Reserve. We then proceed to Nosy Komba where we will be accommodated at Hotel Jardin Vanille or Lilians Bungalows. Nosy Komba is a small island surrounded by clear water that is perfect for diving. This tiny island is secluded and remote – perfect for relaxation and fun in the sun. The island’s big attraction is a large population of black lemur which roam the trees, and with some luck marine turtles may be spotted.

Day 1: Arrival in Madagascar (Nosy Be or Antananarivo) If you arrive into Nosy Be airport in the afternoon or evening, you will be met by the Skipper, tour guide and captain of the dhow, and transferred to the Bed & Breakfast in Hell-Ville. If your flights dictate a 1 night stay in Antananarivo on the first evening, you will spend the night in a small guest house in Antananarivo, arriving to Nosy Be on the morning of day 2.

Days 2 – 7: Various islands, Madagascar We board the dhow and set sail for the islands! During the next 7 days we will sail to some of the following islands. Please note these are dependant on weather and tide conditions:

Russian Bay - a beautiful and remote place opposite the Nosy Be archipelago. Enjoy the fantastic marine life while snorkelling and fishing and maybe you might spot a whale (in season – from October to December) or a rare Whale shark. The tropical woods harbour abundant birdlife, reptiles and lemurs.

Nosy Iranja (Island of Turtles) - the larger and inhabited of the two islands, Nosy Iranja and Nosy Iranja Kely are connected by a 1.5 km long sand bar, negotiable on foot at low tide. Nosy Iranja is a peaceful and remote island with crystal clear waters, good fishing, wonderful walks and fantastic opportunities to sea kayak and explore on foot. Iranja is a breeding reserve for hawksbill turtles.

Mahalina - we spend time here relaxing in the beautiful surroundings, or kayaking up the mangrove swamps. The area is great for snorkelling, fishing and spear-fishing.

Lokobe Reserve - a protected reserve, Lokobe offers wildlife galore with the likelihood of you spotting several lemur species, colourful chameleons and some endemic birds amid the forest!

Nosy Tanikely - a marine reserve teeming with underwater flora and fauna, allowing us the chance for some superb snorkelling in warm waters with great visibility.

Nosy Komba - an island with quaint villages, craft markets and famed for its habituated Lemurs, who may jump onto your shoulders!

12 days through Southern Angola and Northern Namibia: Why not have a real back to nature 4x4 safari and enjoy adventurous days of exploring a unique country? Enjoy everything from its incredible scenery, friendly Himba people to an exhilarating beach drive with just enough space between the dunes and the raging ocean for you! Angola is a very diverse country with an ever changing landscape and challenging conditions, yet it produces a feeling of peace and excitement as the country moves away from its past at a rapid rate. Angola is Southern Africa’s last true wild frontier.

Day 1: Arrival to Lubango, AngolaArriving to Lubango Airport, you will be met by our guide, and transferred to our lodge where we will camp for the evening. Depending on your arrival time, we will go on a tour of Lubango town, ending with scenic sun downer drinks at Tundavalle. This volcanic fissure climbs to 2600 m above sea level and offers breathtaking views from the edge of the escarpment.

Day 2: Lubango to Flamingo Lodge, AngolaLubango is set in a lush tropical valley guarded by the statue of Christ built high above on the cliffs overlooking the city. Descending the hairpin bends of the famous Serra de Leba Pass, we travel west towards Namibe. Before arriving to Flamingo Lodge, we stop at Lake Arco – a hidden treasure located within a canyon.

Day 3: Flamingo lodge- Campsite, AngolaWe use today to relax and explore the fascinating area around Flamingo Lodge. The fishing on this coastline is legendary - perhaps try your luck on catching the big one! We take a drive into the nearby canyon to hike and explore – hopefully seeing some families of Black-backed Jackals along the way.

Days 4 - 5: Beach Drive (Foz du Cunene), AngolaOur departure time will be dependant on the tide. We will depart Flamingo lodge for Foz du Cunene, stopping en-route at Baia dos Tigres, where we will spend a night camping in the dunes. One of the highlights of this tour is the exhilarating 230 km drive down the beach. On our way from Flamingo lodge, we pass by two shipwrecks, one a quite recent addition to the coastline.

Day 6: Iona National Park, Angola Leaving the coastline, we enter the Parque National du Iona. We stop to explore the hundreds of Welwitchias lining our route, as the desert changes face today from an endless sandy desert to rocky landscapes.

Day 7: Iona National Park, AngolaToday is a long and slow drive with some exciting 4x4 driving. The scenery changes dramatically from large open plains to Mopane forests. We pass by some interesting rock formations, and hope to see our first signs of the nomadic Himba people.

Day 8: Arrival to Ruacana, Namibia Today will have an interesting drive, passing a major stand of enormous Baobab trees. We will have plenty of time to also stop and see the many Himba people who live in the area. Leaving Angola behind us, we pay a quick visit to the Ruacana Falls.

Day 9: Ruacana to Etosha National Park, NamibiaWith an early departure, we make our way to Etosha National Park through the North gate, arriving to Namutoni Camp. After a rest and a swim, we will go on an afternoon game drive through the park.

control of the Company (including, but not limited to, acts of God, explosion, flood, fire, war or threat of war, sabotage, civil disturbance, quarantine, government intervention, weather conditions or other unexpected occurrences).

4.2. The Company shall not be deemed to be in breach of these terms and conditions or otherwise be liable to the Client, by reason of delay in performance, or by non-performance, of any of its obligations hereunder to the extent that any such delay or non-performance is due to any Force Majeure.

4.3. If the Company is affected by Force Majeure it shall be entitled to, and may in its sole and absolute discretion, vary or cancel any itinerary or arrangement in relation to the tour or safari.

4.4. No refunds are given for circumstances arising beyond the Company’s control, necessitating alternative arrangements being made to ensure the safety and/or further participation and enjoyment of the tour or safari.

4.5. In the unlikely event of a vehicle breakdown that is beyond the Company’s control and immediate repair, the Company will arrange to have the spare part sent to the current location in the fastest possible time. The Company reserves the right to alter the itinerary accordingly in order to make up any time lost due to any unforeseen circumstances.

4.6. The company reserves the right to cancel the tour without prior notification and in such an event only agrees to refund all monies already paid and received from the Client.

5. Insurance5.1. Travel and cancellation insurance is mandatory for every Client. All insurance is solely

the responsibility of the Client. Before a Client commences a tour, he/she should arrange his/her own insurance with protection for the full duration of the travel, to cover personal injury, medical expenses, repatriation expenses and loss of luggage. If a Client falls ill, all hospital expenses, medical expenses, doctor’s fees and repatriation costs are the Client’s responsibility and the Company shall not be liable for any refund of the tour rate whatsoever.

5.2. The carriage and storage of all baggage and personal effects are at all times the Client’s risk and the Company will not accept any liability for any loss or damage of baggage or personal effects.

6. LiabilityThe Client hereby acknowledges, confirms and records that he/she understands the risk inherent in adventure travel in African destinations and associated activities. The Client is accepted onto the tour and undertakes to do the tour, travel or activity at his/her own risk. The client agrees and concedes that the Company, its representatives and employees shall not be responsible for loss or damage to possessions, or injury or illness to the client or loss of life or consequential damages which might

occur from any cause whatsoever, unless directly caused by the Company’s negligence.

7. HealthThe client shall acknowledge an awareness of the proposed itinerary and shall confirm that he or she is medically fit, in good physical and mental health and is able to embark on the tour. Any client with a pre-existing medical condition or illness must declare the true nature of such a condition to the Company before the commencement of the tour. Any failure to declare may result in the cancellation of his/her booking.8. Claims and ComplaintsIn the unlikely event that the client has a complaint against the company, the Company must be informed immediately, in order that an opportunity is afforded to the company to investigate the situation and provide redress. If the client has any further complaints, these must be lodged in writing to the Company within 1 month of the tour end date. If these procedures are not followed, the Company will not start or continue any such investigation of said complaint.

9. Company Responsibility and RightsThe information in any brochure and printed itineraries is given in good faith by the Company, and is based on the latest information available to the Company. Printed itineraries serve as a guideline only. The company reserves the right to change the facilities or transport described in any publication without being liable for any compensation or refund.

10. The Company AuthorityAny decision made by the tour guide, acting as a Company representative, shall be deemed final on all matters. The company shall not be responsible or liable for any client who commits an illegal or unlawful act in any country visited, or the consequences of such an illegal act. The client may in such circumstances be excluded from the tour without a refund, at the sole discretion of the Company or Company representative. If the Company considers a client unsuitable for a tour (due to mental or physical illness or implied danger to any other Client or Company representative) it may at its sole discretion decline to carry the Client further. If a Client causes severe inconvenience or annoyance to other Clients, the Company may decline to carry the client further, without any refund whatsoever. This will only occur after extensive intervention by the tour guide or Company representative.

11. Client Responsibility11.1. It is the Client’s sole responsibility to ensure that passports, visas, travel permits and

inoculations required for the tour, are obtained well in advance and are in order in terms of all the countries to be visited. It is the Client’s responsibility to meet any additional costs incurred either by the Client (or by the Company on the Client’s behalf) as a result of any failure by the Client to comply with such requirements. The Company may not be held liable for any failure on the part of a client to be in possession of the correct travel documentation.

11.2. The onus is on the Client concerned to fully acquaint themselves with the Terms and Conditions set herein and all matters such as visas, required documentation, payment schedules and cancellation policies.

12. Luggage AllowanceBaggage is strictly limited to one large bag, weighing a maximum of 12 kg. Also allowed will be a smaller hand-luggage bag or camera bag per Client. These restrictions are essential because of the nature of the tour. Because overloaded vehicles are inherently dangerous and cause unnecessary transport problems, potentially endangering Clients and Company representatives, the Company insists that every Client adhere to these luggage restrictions.

13. Booking on scheduled departures13.1. Group Size: Our group size usually varies between 2 and 12 maximum. By travelling in small

groups, the advantages are that campsites and/or lodges are not invaded and time is not wasted in trying to assemble and control large groups of people. It also enables the Company to offer a far more personal service. Our safaris are usually made up of individuals, couples and sometimes groups of friends aged between 18 and 65 years. With the mere physical and youthful mentality which prevails on these tours, they are generally not suited to anybody over the age of 65 years. There is no upper age limit on any tour or safari, but for any Client over the age of 66, the Company requires a medical certificate to confirm physical ability for the chosen tour. Indemnity forms must be completed by a parent or guardian of 21 years or older, for children wishing to participate who are between the ages of 12 and 18.

13.2. Transport: Jenman African Safaris cc vehicle fleet comprises fully equipped Toyota Buses (10-seaters), Toyota Land cruiser 4x4 (10-seaters) and Toyota overland trucks (24-seaters for customized tours) with comfortable seating, large windows for game viewing and music systems. Additionally, we make use of Toyota Quantum (14-seaters with comfortable seating and music system.) An off-road trailer is fitted to all 10-seater vehicles and is equipped with a field kitchen. All luggage is carried on the roof or in the trailer to ensure maximum comfort inside the vehicle.

13.3. Participation: The degree of satisfaction and enjoyment you feel at the end of each day and at the end of the trip will depend on you and your capacity to enjoy yourself. This capacity, combined with an active and enquiring mind and a willingness to participate, is essential for all tours. The Company offers two types of participation safaris: Non participation, where clients do not need to participate in safari duties; Semi-Participation where the clients have to put their own tents up, help with food preparation, dish-washing and help with the packing and unpacking of the vehicle. A degree of flexibility is essential because of the mere nature of the parameters in which we have to operate.

13.4. Accommodation: For Camping safaris, the Company makes use of one 3-person dome tent per 2 people. Thick (5cm) foam sleeping mattresses are provided for these camping safaris. Other accommodation utilised includes bungalows, rondavels, log cabins, lodges, hotels and tented safari camps, for days where accommodation is specified in the itinerary.

13.5. Prices and Local Payment: We endeavour to ensure that every Client is fully aware of all costs involved on each trip. The costs on some tours are divided into two payments. The first amount is paid directly to Jenman Safaris or the Agent before the tour commences; the second amount is the local payment. The local payment must be paid directly to your tour guide in cash in the currency specified on the itinerary. The local payment covers day-to-day group expenses like food, entry fees, local guides etc. Our price, in conjunction with the local payment, includes accommodation, transport on the tour, meals and activities as per itinerary, camping equipment (except sleeping bags), permits, entry fees and a trained and qualified tour guide.
