They listed the following: spend more time with family and friends, find time for fitness, lose weight, quit smoking and/or drinking, enjoy life more, get out of debt, learn something new, help others, and get more organized. I don’t know about you, but I must confess I have resolved some of these at least once... many of them more than once around this time of year. What is it with New Year’s resolutions anyway? When January 1st rolls around, we suddenly think we can turn over a new leaf, and we find ourselves motivated (at least for a while) to be a different person. We find ourselves motivated to treat ourselves or those around us differently. The problem with New Year’s resolutions, although good in theory, is that in reality they are “pie-crust promises”...meaning easily made and easily broken. While we might have the best intentions at the start of the year, more often than not, our lives get in the way...our hectic, crazy, busy lives have us forgetting our resolutions or finds us unable to live up to them. The shiny hope of the New Year soon wears off, and we find ourselves falling short yet again. And then, because we have fallen short yet again. we feel guilty, so mess up again because we feel bad about ourselves, which in turn makes us feel guilty...you get the picture. It isn’t very pretty is it? But the hope for this year, and each year that we can have, is that even when we fall short, God is there to pick us up, dust us off, forgive our sins, and set us back on the path again. In 2 Corinthians 5:17 it says, “So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!” So, remember when you fall short of what you hope to do, and who you hope to be, that Christ makes you new and lets you begin again. MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF HHOLYOLY CCROSSROSS LLUTHERANUTHERAN CCHURCHHURCH JANUARY 2012Information and invitation to guide you in your faith journey

Dear Brothers and Sister in the faith,I was reading an article recently about the most often attempted New Year’s resolutions. They listed

the following: spend more time with family and friends, find time for fitness, lose weight, quit smokingand/or drinking, enjoy life more, get out of debt, learn something new, help others, and get more organized. I don’t know about you, but I must confess I have resolved some of these at least once...many of them more than once around this time of year.

What is it with New Year’s resolutions anyway? When January 1st rolls around, we suddenly thinkwe can turn over a new leaf, and we find ourselves motivated (at least for a while) to be a different person. We find ourselves motivated to treat ourselves or those around us differently.

The problem with New Year’s resolutions, although good in theory, is that in reality they are “pie-crust promises”...meaning easily made and easily broken. While we might have the best intentionsat the start of the year, more often than not, our lives get in the way...our hectic, crazy, busy lives haveus forgetting our resolutions or finds us unable to live up to them. The shiny hope of the New Year soonwears off, and we find ourselves falling short yet again. And then, because we have fallen short yetagain. we feel guilty, so mess up again because we feel bad about ourselves, which in turn makes usfeel guilty...you get the picture. It isn’t very pretty is it?

But the hope for this year, and each year that we can have, is that even when we fall short, God isthere to pick us up, dust us off, forgive our sins, and set us back on the path again. In 2 Corinthians 5:17it says, “So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!”

So, remember when you fall short of what you hope to do, and who you hope to be, that Christmakes you new and lets you begin again. May the Lord bless and keep each of you this year, and mayit be a year where all of us deepen our relationships with Him!

Holy Cross Lutheran Church, some opportunities call formonies not available from our regular giving to the Mission& Ministry or Building Mortgage & Maintenance Funds. Justa few examples of those are “Dollars for Scholars” or “Quilters” and “Prayer Shawl” ministries. The Holy Cross EENDOWMENTNDOWMENT F FUNDUND allows the church

to enhance the mission outreach and ministry of the congregation. The good news is that the funds given to the EENDOWMENTNDOWMENT F FUNDUND are perpetual funds, which means theprincipal is never spent! Only the earnings can be distributed. So when you give to the EENDOWMENTNDOWMENT F FUNDUND, your monies continues to support the mission and ministryof Holy Cross FOREVER.FOREVER.

If you are able to donate any of these items, please bring them to the drop box in the Fellowship Hall the next time you are here. This is an ongoing need

throughout the cold winter months. Thank You!!!
