CONGREGATIONAL BOOK REVIEW: CYNTHIA VENEKAMP

I READ THIS BOOK: “A TREASURY OF MIRACLES FOR WOMEN,”

KAREN KINGSBURY.

This book was a quick read (only about an hour). Excellent true stories about how important prayer is andthe wonderful miracles that can happen through prayer. Some of the stories were about how your prayers may notbe answered in the way you wanted but that God has another plan, and you soon realize the good that comesfrom that. I would recommend this book to everyone.

“THROUGHMY EYES,” TIM TEBOW WITH NATHANWHITAKER.Professional football player, Tim Tebow, details his early years as

the son of Christian missionaries, to his home-schooled upbringing, to his parents’ emphasis on developing his character & faith.

“CHILDREN LEARNWHAT THEY LIVE: PARENTING TO INSPIREVALUES,” DOROTHY LAW NOLTE.

The author offers a powerful guide to parenting – by inspiring values through example.

Remember to save and turn in your Crossroads receipts!Holy Cross receives 5% of the total amount spent to go toward the purchase of new books.

ADULT ED IN THE FALL: Planning is underway

for Sunday morning Adult Ed.If you would like to lead/facilitate a discussion, please contact Angie.

“THAT’SWHY I’M HERE: THE CHRIS & STEFANIE SPIELMANSTORY,” CHRIS SPIELMAN.

A powerful story for anyone whose life has been touched by cancer& for anyone whose faith has wavered in the face of adversity. It is theinspiring story of Chris & his late wife, Stefanie – a story of family, faith, & perseverance.

A WORD FROM MISS TRICIA...HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN SUMMER CAMP REVIEWWe would like to take this opportunity to share with you our adventures

of investigating God’s world around us through 7 weeks of hands-on exploration and discovery in the summer camps offered through Holy CrossLutheran Preschool. We have completed the third year of our summer campprogram, and the number of children we have ministered to each year hasgrown tremendously.

In 2010, there were 68 spots filled out of 70 spots available (7 weeks, 10 spots each). In 2011, 153 out of 165 spots (5 weeks, 25 spots – 2 weeks,20 spots) were filled. And for 2012, 23 offered 7 weeks of camps, 2 classeswith 20 children each, bringing the total number of spots to 280 – of those,276 were filled.

Praise be to God for your overwhelming interest for making Holy CrossLutheran Summer Camps an enormous success! During our seven weeks ofsummer camps many friendships, memories, laughs, and new adventureswere made by all! New this summer were our two separate classes offered forthe different age groups, giving a developmentally appropriate opportunityfor incoming 3-year-olds up to children who had completed a year of kindergarten. The camps offered to the older children were taught by MissTiffany and Miss Angela, and the camps offered to the younger children weretaught by Miss Danielle and Miss Sherry. Each week offered its own learningopportunity and exploration for children and teachers to engage in.

The children began the first week with Make Believe having a specialtreasure hunt and tea party to end the week. The second week was CampJellystone exploring the adventures of camping and visiting Yogi Bear himself at the Jellystone Campground between Sioux Falls and Brandon.Week 3 kicked off with Sport Spectacular filled with games and energy and a stop at the Sioux Falls Pheasants Stadium. Week 4 was Great Outdoors allowing children to investigate creepy, crawly bugs and living things aroundthem with an activity-led field trip to the Outdoor Campus. They hammeredaway into week 5 with the construction world building and designing theirown truck and birdhouses. Week 6 they explored the option of what theywanted to be when they grew up through exploring Community Helpers anda trip to All City Pet Care to learn what a day of a veterinarian looks like.We ended on week 7 with a special Rodeo Roundup filled with wild west activities and a special training with Shelly Naser at her horse stable. What amazing FUN!!!
