FRIENDSHIP MEAL ….. will be on Sunday, January 17th at 5:00 p.m.

(Coffee served at 4:30 p.m.) and is being sponsored by EMS—Electra Marconi Society

All Parishioners are cordially invited to come, sit with Jesus as He reveals Himself in the face of the poor, and dine with Him here as a foretaste of

the Heavenly Banquet.

HELPING REFUGEES Syria’s civil war is the worst humanitarian crisis of our time. Half the

country’s pre-war population — more than 11 million people — have been killed or forced to flee their homes. As Canadians, we are responding to the crisis through donations and sponsorship. Within a few weeks, a Syrian refugee family of 5 will be arriving in Sault Ste. Marie, sponsored by the New

Beginnings Ecumenical group. With the offer of financial support, this group has happily agreed to sponsor a second family. To help refugees settle in Canada, people are needed to assist in areas such as health, education, housing, clothing and transportation. If you have questions or would like more information on how you might be involved there will a meeting on:

THURSDAY, JANUARY 28 AT 7 PM BLESSED MARGARET ROOM, OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL

As we mark the ‘World Day of Migrants and Refugees’ today, please remember in your prayers our brothers and sisters throughout the world who must flee their homes and try to find safety and security elsewhere.

A World Day of Migrants & Refugees, January 17th, is observed in many places in solidarity

with the World Refugee Day promoted by the United Na#ons & observed since 2001

on 20 June. This January observance was ins#tuted by Saint Pius X in 1914.

The phenomenon of migra#on today is a providen#al opportunity for

the proclama#on of the Gospel in the contemporary world.

Eucharistic Adoration Ministry of Sault Ste. Marie Adoration Chapel

Located at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church The Roman Catholic community of the City of Sault Ste. Marie is privileged to have an Adoration Chapel

where Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is present at all times. This Chapel is located in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 114 MacDonald Avenue.

We are running into difficulties where a lot of the Adorers are getting to an age where they are unable to attend the Chapel due to sickness or lack of transportation.

The Chapel is open from 6:00 a.m. until Midnight.

Anyone can drop in for a visit during that time; however, we do need adorers committed to a weekly visit for an hour.

We urgently require an Adorer for the hours of: Sunday 6:00pm--7:00pm;

Tuesday 8:00am — 9:00am Saturday 6:00pm —7:00pm

Please call one of the following co-ordinators of the Chapel if you would like to come to the Chapel to experience the peace and tranquility of spending one hour weekly with Jesus:

Susanne Quinn-Perron 450-7732; Angela Rasaiah 949-2208; and Raffaela Medaglia 206-3968.

WINTER WOOLIES PROJECT…. Over the past many years, people have donated yarn to the church for knitters; and in return knitters in the parish would make hats, mitts, sweaters, scarves etc for those in need for the missions in the North. This

project was under the hospice of PJPII Ministry and now that they have decided to disband, we need to make some decisions on how to proceed. We have a couple of choices 1) If you would like to help this project continue and help organize it, please contact Fr. Paul; or 2) we can cancel this project and those knitters who have made items can give them to a local agency (Soup Kitchen, Vincent Place, Pregnancy Centre etc). Items dropped off at the church would be sent to local charities.

At present we have both yarn & knitted items being held in the parish office waiting for a decision. We do hope this Ministry Project will be adopted by someone or a group in the parish and will continue to be of value to the less fortunate. Please contact us today! 705-942-8546

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY 2016

JANUARY 18 – 25

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is celebrated around the world on January 18-25, which are also the dates recommended by the Canadian Conference

of Catholic Bishops. However, there has also been a long-standing practice by a number of communities to celebrate the Week of Prayer on optional dates, in order to include two Sunday which in 2016 would be January 17-24.

This universal week of prayer encourages Christians of all denominations to meet, to participate in various liturgical and other community activities, and to pray together that all may be one, as Christ desires.

The importance of unity about Christians and the responsibility of the people of each parish to work for this unity should be emphasized throughout the week. All members of the parish should seek to have a deeper understanding of ecumenism.

This year the theme is: “Called to proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord” (cf. 1 Peter 2:9)

The theme of the Week of Prayer 2016 has been chosen by a group of people belonging to different churches in Latvia. God has chosen us not as a privilege, but to fulfill some purpose. Being a holy and priestly people means being at the service of the world. Christians live their baptismal calling and bear witness to God’s mighty acts in a variety of ways. God’s grace helps us to beg forgiveness for the obstacles which prevent reconciliation and healing, in the Church and in the world, to receive mercy, and to grow in holiness. Awareness of our common identity in Christ calls us to work towards answering the questions that still divide us as Christians. We are called, like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, to share our experiences and so discover, that in our common pilgrimage, Jesus Christ is among us. Through common social and charitable projects we reach out to the poor, the needy, the addicted and the marginalized.
