The Work-Study Diploma (WSDip) is a unique 2.5- to 3-year apprenticeship-based programme. It comprises 70% on-the-job training at ITE’s partner companies, and 30% off-the-job training at ITE!

1. Some private diplomas can be attained after one year. Why does the WSDip course take such a long time? The WSDip programme encompasses 2.5 to 3 years of in-depth training for trainees. This additional working experience enables trainees to become competent in carrying out their job roles and gives employers confidence that trainees have the skills to work.
2. Can WSDip applicants choose the company they want to work in? Applicants can choose from a list of participating companies during the WSDip intake exercise. However, they must attend
interviews conducted by the company and be employed by the company, before starting WSDip programme.
3. What do employers look for at the selection interview for WSDip applicants? Like most recruitment processes, it is important for WSDip applicants to show good work attitude and passion for the job. Being interested in the company and displaying willingness to add value will help the applicant as well. As this is a diploma-level programme, employers also expect knowledge and skills learnt from previous Nitec / Higher Nitec courses.
4. Can Nitec / Higher Nitec students of non-feeder courses qualify for WSDip courses that they really like? It is possible for Nitec / Higher Nitec students of non-feeder courses to be accepted in WSDip courses that they really like. However, approval is on a case-by-case basis and the employer has to say yes as well. If the applicant is accepted, he / she will not get the sign-on incentive.
5. In the scenario where the intake period seems quite far off from the Operationally Ready Date (ORD), what can prospective WSDip students do in the meantime? If waiting time for the next intake period is long, those who are interested can try to get jobs in areas related to the course, in order to better understand job expectations.
6. Is there a bond period after the WSDip? If yes, how long is it? Most companies do not impose a bond period after the WSDip. For those which do, bond periods typically range from 1.5 to 2 years. However, this information must be shared with applicants before the start of the course.
7. How will WSDip trainees be assessed in the course? The trainees will be graded by the company and ITE. At ITE, we may require the trainee to go through an in-course assessment and a written test after a module.
8. Can WSDip graduates apply to progress to local universities? WSDip graduates can apply to related full-time or part-time degree programmes in the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Institute of Technology or Singapore University of Social Sciences, subject to the admission requirements of the university.
9. Will WSDip graduates get more pay and a higher job rank? As diploma holders, WSDip graduates can generally get more pay and higher job ranks that poly diploma graduates enjoy. However, it is only fair that companies do so after seeking good work performance as well. With a diploma, graduates are likely to get career advancement and increased responsibilities in time to come.
10. Can WSDip trainees still apply to polytechnics after completing the WSDip? Since the WSDip is already a diploma, there is no need for another diploma from the polytechnics. However, some may wish to pursue Work-Study Post-Diploma (Advanced / Specialist Diploma).

Successful applicants are required to attend the mass briefing conducted by ITE in Mar 2020. WSDip Agreements and Agreement of Grant for eligible trainees should be returned to ITE within one week after mass briefing.
