− The mission of ISO/TC 154 is both to undertake and to facilitate the development and maintenance of international standards for data exchange in the value chain. These standards cover data exchange regardless of the media used.

•Working together− Wherever possible, ISO/TC 154 fosters harmonisation between and within

Processing ProceduresJSWG = Joint Syntax Working Group = Name of ISO/TC 154/JWG 1”

• Syntax Data Maintenance Requests (Syntax DMRs) serve as the means to apply enhancements to ISO 9735 (Electronic data interchange for administration, commerce and transport (EDIFACT) — Application level syntax rules).

WG3-CCTS(Core Components Technical Specification)

ISO TS 15000-5 (ebXML Core Components Technical Specification, Version 2.01(ebCCTS))

− ISO/TC 154/WG 3 was established upon the former “CCTS” ad-hoc group of ISO/TC 154 in March 2006. The purpose is to maintain the ISO/TS 15000-5 “Core Components Technical Specification, V2.01″ in close liaison with UN/CEFACT.

The Core Components Technical Specification provides a way to identify, capture and maximize the re-use of business information to support and enhance information interoperability across multiple business situations.Approved Recommendation •Upgrade 15000-5 to an International Standard. ◦Reasons for this choice

− The Core Component Library (CCL) based on this TS is widely used.− The ISOTC 154 library alignment project has chosen this as the basis for

alignment− The ebMoU Management Group recommends this for global semantic

harmonization

ISO/TC 154/WG 4 was established (formally as JWG 2) in 2006 for the purpose of developing an electronic version of the UN Layout Key (equivalent to ISO 6422:1985).

− The standard(s) should base on the relationship between the underlying core components and the presentation aspects of the Layout Key. In addition the standard(s) should allow others to derive aligned electronic documents based on the electronic Layout Key in a similar way to the development of aligned paper documents based on the original UNLK for Trade Documents.

− ISO 6422-1 was published in 2010 and another preparatory WI for the progress of the foreseen ISO 6422-2 was initiated. Due to necessary investigations in September 2011 it was decided to develop first a Technical Report (see ISO/PWI TS 6422-3) regarding the progress of ISO 6422 “Layout key for trade documents.” This project shall provide more clarification on an appropriate extension of ISO 6422 for electronic documents as already registered with ISO/NP 6422-2.

UNTDED – ISO 7372 Joint Maintenance Agency was established in the late 80′s to maintain the Trade Data Element Directory (TDED) issued by UNECE as UNTDED and also by ISO/TC154 as ISO 7372.

The UNECE, through the Trade and Transport Divisions and the ISO through its Central Secretariat jointly provide the Secretariat for the JMA. This joint secretariat has appointed a JMA Secretary. Role of the Joint Maintenance Agency The JMA, as authorized by the UNECE WP.4 and by the ISO Council, is entrusted with the following functions:To add to or to eliminate data elements from TDED and to assign numeric identifiers (tags) in accordance with the rules provided in Section 5 of TDED;To inform interested parties appropriately of such changes, etc.;To prepare periodically and disseminate amendment sheets to users in order to allow proper up-dating of TDED;To establish as required, in the normal course of work, additional rules for the practical application of the principles for:

− selecting data elements and assigning them a name and a numeric identifier (tag);− grouping data elements into broad categories;− the presentation of standard data elements and their use for international trade

information interchange.

The ISO balloting process is rather complex, and there are different terms and abbreviations for different types of documents, at each stage of balloting. The most important of these are summarized in the table below:Document Type :1 (2-4 mo) 2 (3 mo) 3 (2 mo)Standard: CD DIS FDISAmendment: PDAM DAM FDAM

An ordinary standard (or amendment to a standard) goes through the three ballots: CD > DIS > FDIS. Including stages that precede the balloting of the CD and the final approved International Standard, the full sequence is: NP > WD > CD > DIS > FDIS > IS.

ISO Technical Reports and Corrigenda have a more abbreviated process:Document Type 1 2Technical Report PDTR (3-6 mo) DTR (3-6 mo)Corrigendum DCOR (3 mo min)
