Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent — that season of 40 days before Easter (excluding Sundays) in which Christians are encouraged to reflect upon the quality of their relationship to God. During this time people are invited to take on a new spiritual discipline, go out of their way to do something for another person in the name of Christ, or give up a bad habit that has been standing in the way of their relationship with God. Let me offer you some suggestions to make your Lenten experience more meaningful: 1. Begin your Lent by attending our joint Ash Wednesday service on February 10 th at 7:00 pm at Chapelwood UMC. 2. Get involved in one of our ongoing Bible Studies or Cove- nant groups. 3. Participate in our Holy Week experiences. 4. And, of course, make Sunday School and worship attendance a priority. Even Jesus found the need to gather regularly with the people of God for worship and study. “Jesus went to the synagogue, as was his custom…” (Luke 4:16) See you in church on Sunday! Lynne

Youth Valentine’s PANCAKE SUPPER FEBRUARY 14

5 -7pm in WESLEY HALL

What are you doing on Valentine’s night?

Here’s an idea...

Come and support FirstYouth during our annual Pancake Supper.

All donations will go to the Angel Tree Fund as we continue

Suzanne’s tradition here in our youth group. In December, we were

able to purchase more than $600 in gifts for several area children.

Come and enjoy blueberry pancakes, strawberry pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes and of course,

heart-shaped pancakes. We’ll even have a drawing for a Valentine’s gift. Don’t miss it!

Imagine with me for a moment...what would the world be like if we cooperated with each other? Would there be fighting? Would we get projects done? Would we change someone's life? Would we be friends with everyone? Cooperation is working together to do more than you could do alone. Cooperation is so big! It's important! When we cooperate we can build more, learn more, and do more. God made each of us to need other people. We also need Him. So we are on this a Earth to do more together than what we can do on our own. Every leader, every parent, every child- explore Ecclesiastes 4:9

"Two people are better than one. They can help each other in everything they do." The Bible has many stories about cooperation. Let's explore together! Week 1- Israelites building the tabernacle. Exodus 28,31,35,39 Bottom Line: We can work together to get God's work done. Week 2- Joshua battling the Amalekites. Exodus 17:8-13 Bottom Line: We can work together to help someone else succeed. Week 3- Paralyzed man and his friends. Luke 5:17-26 Bottom Line: We can work together to change someone's life. Week 4- early church working together. Acts 2:42-47 Bottom Line: Working together can point people to Jesus. We can make a difference in this world if each parent, leader, and child really tried to work together. Think about what our church, schools, families, and community could accomplish if we just cooperated with each other! Think how we could change the world! Praising God Always, Kimberly Bowers Children's Ministry Director First United Methodist Church

Join us at

Chapelwood UMC on

Ash Wednesday, February 10th at 7pm

as we worship with their congregation to

begin our observance of Lent.

Members of our congregation will be participating in the liturgy.

This promises to be a truly meaningful

experience that you won’t want to miss!

What’s Your Plan? As you review your resolutions for the year, make sure updating your will is on the list. Under Texas law, every man,

woman and child has a will. You either have the one you wrote, or the one the state will write for you. If you have not decided how your estate will be divided and who will have custody of your children, the state will decide those things for you. Every Christian's stewardship goals should include careful planning around these decisions, and updates should be considered at least every 3-5 years. Check on your will today.
