Methodist Men’s BBQ and Block Party November 9, 2013
Along with plenty of BBQ to eat this year, we will have a block party with lots of children's activities including
an inflatable slide, an obstacle course, toddler games
and castle for them to play in!
Music and an indoor air-conditioned eating area will be available, once again, this year. We will need everyone's
help to make this a success! Don't forget to set aside
November 9th on your calendars for lots of family fun!
We will be having our Annual Bake Sale as we always do in conjunction with the Men’s Barbeque, on November 9th. This year, to encourage drive-thru customers to come inside for fellowship, we will give each drive-thru customer a ticket that they can bring inside to receive a free dessert. Inside, we will have single serving des-serts and whole pies, cakes, etc. for sale. The money made through sales this year will go into a fund to help the youth of our church go to camp at Lakeview, UM Army, or other mission trips they might take. Please plan to help support our youth and women’s ministry by baking items for this important fund raiser. We will also need some workers on Nov. 9th who can come early to help slice desserts for single servings and price others to sell as whole desserts. Also needed will be workers who will help in the Fellowship Hall selling the desserts throughout the day. We always have a wonderful time of outreach, fun, and fellowship at this event. Please plan to come and be a part of all the activities that day!! Sign-up sheets will be available in Wesley Hall during the month of October.

SANCTUARY RENOVATION PROGRESS - 4th Report, Oct. 11, 2013
We have our design! After discussion with many representatives of the church, our architect, PBK, has prepared renderings of the renovation design. These have been shared with the church for several weeks. The changes are exciting and include: Increasing the space between the pews to make access easier. A significantly remodeled chancel area with moveable pulpit and lectern placed further forward, closer to the congregation, a
place for the choir, piano, organ and Praise Team, while still retaining its focus on the Cross. The choir loft and its overhang will be removed and the open area of the sanctuary wall will be closed off . The foyer will be enlarged and the ceiling raised to make our greeting area even more fellowship-friendly. There will be handicap seating and ADA restrooms. The sanctuary will be re-carpeted to match the new pew padding. Lighting will be enhanced with the addition of pendant lights. Please note that the renderings do show the planned configuration, but do not yet reflect specific color selections because we are still in the selection process.
We believe God is blessing our work and think you will be very pleased with the changes. God has blessed the church renovation with a substantial gift from a church member for the purchase of new pews! We are meeting the budget challenge!
The team, including PBK and Durotech, are working very hard to be good stewards and stay on our budget. The generous gift of new pews certainly helped with this challenge, and we are pursuing some additional material and scope changes that reduce costs, but preserve the elements of the design described above. This includes doing some demolition work ourselves. We are about to start construction! What does this mean for you? Well, we still need your help! Please pray for us! This is an exciting project for the glory of God. None of what we do here is for us, but is for His Glory. Please feel free to contact any of the team with your feedback or questions. We plan to do some of the early demolition work and pew removal ourselves. We could use your help! Contact John May at 979-285-5352, Bob Patton at 979-235-9859, or Wayne Har-rison at 979-292-6413. NEWSLETTER TRANSITION
Dear First Church - after several years of working on the bulletins and newsletters, I have decided to step
away from the position prior to my Dad’s retirement. I am extremely grateful for all of the support you have
given, and for the chance to be a part of my dad’s ministry here. Moving forward,
please send all newsletter requests directly to the church office at [email protected].
Kelly Colosimo and Patti Polasek will do the newsletter moving forward.

Our October Fun Friday was a blast! We played in costumes and discussed what it means to be a peace-
maker. Our arts & crafts were fun, and the kids were a wonderful blessing.
Looking forward to Christmas and 2014, we keep thinking of all the ways that Joy Ministry blesses our lives
and the lives of others in the community. We are excited to start planning our
next year of fun and learning.
We thank all of our wonderful volunteers and families for being a part of our
ministry. We are also grateful to First Church for supporting us!
May Christ's love bless you.

Honoring God, Honoring Others
Our monthly Bible verse for Sunday School this month is " Love
each other deeply. Honor others more than yourselves." Romans
12:10.
To me this means recognizing people, family, and friends for the contributions they have made in
your life. So I want to honor Pastor Geller , Kathy, and the whole FUMC church. This church and
the families it serves is so special to me. I want you to know how valuable you really are!! God made
each and every person, and gave us special talents. When I joined way back in 1991, I had no idea
how I would grow as a spiritual leader. FUMC has taught me to help others by giving them a chance.
Starting JOY Ministry back in 2006 gave me JOY when my life around me was crumbling. We were
experiencing deaths of Kim's father and mother. It was very sudden and I had my church family and
Pastor Geller there to help us through this time. Thank you so very much! As JOY ministry grew, I
also grew as a Christian. I learned to put others first, to listen to others needs, and to see that God
was important and loved me for who I was.
I am so grateful for the love, the trust, and the belief that Pastor Geller/Kathy have in me for leading
the children's programs. I have learned that God is in charge and I honor Him by giving Him the credit for
changing me. Thank you God for this church, church families, the children, and mostly for Pastor Geller/
Kathy for their guidance over the years. Thank you for teaching me your ways and allowing me to grow on
the right path. Show me your ways, O Lord, Teach me your paths. (Psalm 25:4-5).
I am honored to be a part of this wonderful church! May God bless us all for many years to come!
Praising God Always,

Don’t Forget…
It’s almost time to Fall
Back! Set your clocks back
for Sunday, November 3rd!
Through September, our income trails expenses by ~17% (see figure) and we appreciate your faithful giving to
help us catch up by year-end.
On a separate but related note, please be aware that the sanctuary renovation will be accomplished with already
received donations outside of your regular giving. No addi-
tional fund-raising is planned.
On that note, we’re beginning to pull together our 2014
budget and you’ll soon be receiving stewardship
commitment cards in the mail. We appreciate your
prayerful consideration and turning these in as soon as
possible in the self-addressed envelope, in the
offering plate/basket, or to the office. Our theme of
“STAND UP, STAND STRONG” reminds us of the
opportunity to respond to God’s calling to support His
kingdom through the many ministries of our church family.
