From Our Pastor Lamar Baptist Church April 1, 2010 Volume 4, Issue 4 Messenger April is here! We are thrilled to put winter behind us and look forward to summer. It always amazes me how I can be living life in the winter and think nothing of the passing of time. Then, we have few bright sunshiny days, warm temperatures, the grass goes green, the trees bud out, and all of sudden I have spring fever. I begin to go outside more and enjoy the new season coming. I was not aware before these bright warm days how much I longed for the change in season. But when that spring fever hits, it brings waves of new hope. Have you ever noticed how true this is in all of life? We are hunkereddown riding out the cold unfruitful times and we are focused on survival. Then, new waves of hope come and we immediately catch a fever of new life. I have had that lately. I have seen new waves of hope crashing in our worship services with folks saved and baptized….life awakening. I have heard the rush of the Spirit’s wind regenerating little children. I have tasted a new vision for a changing season in the life of Lamar. I like what God is doing. I love to watch him work. I am thankful for the rush of new hope. I am amazed that he would allow me to be a small part of an eternal transaction. What about you? Are you ready for that kind of change? We must change, just assuredly as the seasons must change. God’s church must change. The change He brings is the birth of new hope, of new life. Receive it. Believe it. Pray for those changes to come. It is what you, like me, have unknowingly been longing for all this time. God Bless you all. Your Pastor, Brother Mike

MISSIONS MINISTRY

My thanks to Jonathan Bowman (LBC-WF’s “Student Pastor Extraordinaire”) for lead-ing such as well-planned mission trip to Boston, Massachusetts, during the March spring break—and to Jonathan and Jessica for being terrific adult sponsors leading LBC’s teens while on that trip! As the group reported on March 28 during the evening worship service, the trip’s travel went smoothly and the assignment given by our Bos-ton host (church-planter Vivek Arora, of All Nations Church) went well—but we con-tinue to pray for that historic city, that it will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior (if you and one other serious follower of Christ walked into a room of 98 other people in Boston, the odds are great that the two of you would be the only evangelical Christians present; 2% evangelical Christian—see definition here: www.barna.org).

Please pray with us—and travel with us again to Boston on July 1-6 (Thursday-Tuesday) for similar church-starting work at that time (and maybe watch a Boston Red Sox ballgame while there!). Other trip info is below, along with information about an upcoming South Texas mission trip scheduled for June.

EDUCATION MINISTRY

Adults, how are things progressing in your LifeCare Groups at LBC-WF? I don’t be-lieve that the average congregation can be judged by its winters or holidays, and we know that the WF area had an unusually snowy-cold winter which kept all of us inside where it was safe and warm. Spring has arrived, though, and it’s time again to get to work following our department directors’ lead for Outreach, Inreach, and Bible study attendance! The success of LBC’s evangelistic ministry to the city is up to each of us; no one is more tired or more busy than anyone else—we’re all busy and tired, but when the big task of LifeCare/Sunday School ministry is shared among us all, then the town is reached for Christ and the congregation grows, and the service is easier. Be sure to double-check with your LifeCare director today for places of service in your group now, OK?

Have a terrific springtime—may the Lord bless your family very well in April!

From Our FAC Secretary The FAC is now open on Saturdays (8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.)—so, if you have a hard time getting here throughout the week, here is your chance to come for exercise. The FAC will be open 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. for the community; that is when the Adopt-A-Community teams will be present, as well, to get to know the people who come in.

On April 13, Kevyn Trammell will start a new strength-and-stretch fitness class that anyone can join. The class will consist of several types of stretching and cardio exercises to help you get in shape for the summer. The classes are go-ing to be donation only; if a participant can’t pay, it’s okay—come anyway! The class will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the aerobic room at the FAC (6:00–7:15 p.m.); attend all the class or only part of it. Bring your friends and enjoy the fellowship. Call the FAC for more details. (723-4378).

Come out on Monday nights to support the men’s softball team, and on Thursday nights for the Co-Ed teams. Each team plays all of its games at the softball complex on Sheppard Road. Game schedules will be available at the FAC and posted in the worship bulletin events list. Susan Robertson FAC Secretary

It’s not too late to join an Adopt-A-Community team! Currently, 70 LBC-WF members compose 8 ministry teams serving on mission in the FAC on Saturdays (10:00am-2:00 pm). Additional members filling in, being prayer warriors, helping with special events, etc., would be great! Please contact Joy Dail (867-6478) for more information. Thank you for serving God and the city on Saturdays in the FAC! =============================================== On April 4, our fellow-member Marshall Hughes will be 90 years old! Bro. Marshall would be blessed by a birth-day card from us—please mail yours to him at: 1900 O’Neal; Gainesville, TX 76240
