WHAT IS IT?Internet or INTERnational NETwork is a network of networks

that crisscrosses the globe and even extends into space. It is a system with 2 main components: Hardware and

Protocols.

IT COMPONENTSHARDWARE:That includes everything from the cables that carry

terabits of information every second to the computer sitting in front of you.

Other types of hardware that support the Internet include routers, servers, cell phone towers, satellites, radios, smartphones and other devices.

These elements are connections. Some are end points -- the computer, smartphone or other device you're using to read this may count as one. We call those end points clients. Machines that store the information we seek on the Internet are servers. Other elements are nodes which serve as a connecting point along a route of traffic. And then there are the transmission lines which can be physical, as in the case of cables and fiber optics, or they can be useless signals from satellites, cell phone or 4G towers, or radios.

PROTOCOLS: Protocols are sets of rules that machines follow to complete tasks. Without a common set of protocols that all machines connected to the Internet must follow, communication between devices couldn't happen. The various machines would be unable to understand one another or even send information in a meaningful way. The protocols provide both the method and a common language for machines to use to transmit data.

ISSUESAccess: In a physical sense, access to infrastructure and

equipment depends on the availability of computers, modems, telephone lines and network hardware. From a usability perspective, access depends on making the physical devices and online services useful to everyone, including persons with disabilities. Access also has an economic facet, as the cost of infrastructure, equipment, and services can determine the level of access available to regions, communities, and individuals.

Online Privacy: whether data being transferred is viewed by a third party etc.

Online Security: whether the data transferred is safe enough and the unauthorized cannot access it

Spam: has grown to be a major concern for Internet users and policy makers not only congesting networks and disseminating viruses and fraudulent messages, but also undermining trust in the Internet and the digital economy.

ADVANTAGESE-mail: E-mail is an online correspondence system. With e-mail you can

send and receive instant electronic messages, which works like writing letters. Your messages are delivered instantly to people anywhere in the world, unlike traditional mail that takes a lot of time.

Access Information: The Internet is a virtual treasure trove of information. Any kind of information on any topic under the sun is available on the Internet. The ‘search engines’ on the Internet can help you to find data on any subject that you need.

Shopping: Along with getting information on the Internet, you can also shop online. There are many online stores and sites that can be used to look for products as well as buy them using your credit card. You do not need to leave your house and can do all your shopping from the convenience of your home.

Online Chat: There are many ‘chat rooms’ on the web that can be accessed to meet new people, make new friends, as well as to stay in touch with old friends.

Downloading Software: This is one of the most happening and fun things to do via the Internet. You can download innumerable, games, music, videos, movies, and a host of other entertainment software from the Internet, most of which are free.

SOLUTIONSPromoting a competitive communications environment,

developing local content, encouraging Internet usage, and establishing Internet Exchange Points, are some of the measures that can be taken to enable the Internet to flourish in developing countries

Students must be encouraged to use books and other literary devices and not always dependent on technology for their academic puposes.
