William Christian Krumbein MedalHighest award given by the Association. It is awarded to seniorscientists for career achievement, which includes distinction inapplication of mathematics or informatics in the earth sciences,service to the IAMG, and support to professions involved in the earthsciences. There is no stipulated preference for fields of applicationwithin the earth sciences.

John Cedric Griffiths Teaching Award

Presented to honor outstanding teaching, especially for teaching thatinvolves application of mathematics or informatics to the Earth’snonrenewable natural resources or to sedimentary geology.

Felix Chayes Prize for Excellence in Research in Math. Petrology

Cash prize endowed in honor of Felix Chayes that is given torecipients of exceptional potential and proven research ability. Theprize is given for outstanding contributions to statistical petrology orrelated applications of mathematics or informatics.

Andrei Borisovitch Vistelius Research AwardGiven to a young scientist for promising contributions in research inthe application of mathematics or informatics in any field of the earthsciences. A recipient should be 35 years or younger at the end of thecalendar year for which he or she has been selected for the award.


Special Lectures (annual)

Distinguished Lecturer

The Distinguished Lecturer prepares a series of lectures preferablyon a variety of subjects in the mathematical geosciences to bepresented in places where IAMG conferences are not normally held.

Georges Matheron Lecturer

The Georges Matheron Lecturer should be a scientist with provenresearch ability in the field of spatial statistics or mathematicalmorphology. This lecture is presented at the annual conference of theIAMG.
