A Hobby That Blesses (continued from page 1)

Originally Nancy crochetedfor her relatives andneighbors, and sold hats andscarves to those who wantedthem. But four years ago shethought she would give someof her work to the church andthe needy. When our churchlaunched a visitor’s table inthe lobby,Nancy madecrochetedbookmarksfor our

guests. They are still offered in the gift boxesgiven to our registered visitors at theInformation Station. The church of herchildhood in California heard about it andasked if she would make them some too. Thena ministry in Florida got wind of it and ordered250 bookmarks for a special outreach to needychildren in their community. She madecrocheted “bookworms” for this event.

Since 2011, Nancy has givenaway 500 hats for streetpeople, 94 scarves, 44afghans and 71 babyblankets. Last year she tookon supplying two hospitalswith birthing caps fornewborns and delivered 390

for futuredeliveries. In allshe’sdonatedalmost1900hours.Whenasked where she finds the time to do all this,Nancy says, “If I’m watching TV forsomething to happen or just have some freetime, I’m crocheting.”

Golden Buckeye Fellowship EventsMonday, May 20—Aullwood Audubon Center

The Aullwood Audubon Center is a treasure at any time of year, but it is especially beautiful in the spring when the abundantwildflowers are in bloom and the birds have their brand new feathers all “spiffed up” for the breeding season. We will meetin the Kettering SDA Church south parking lot at 12:00 noon and carpool to Aullwood, which is north of Dayton, near theEnglewood Metropark. Either eat your lunch before meeting at the church or bring a lunch with you. There will be a roomin which to eat at Aullwood. At 1:30 p.m., Tom Hissong, the Naturalist and Education Coordinator at Aullwood, will givean illustrated talk about the spring wildflowers and birds; then he will lead the group on a leisurely walk along the pathsthrough the woods and gardens. We should arrive back at the Kettering Church by 4:30 p.m. The fee for this activity is $6.00per person. National Audubon members should bring their membership cards and pay a reduced fee of $1.00 per person.RSVP to Ellie Welpman (phone 298-8937) by Wednesday, May 15.
