Call to WorsHiP

Leader: Sisters and brothers, we gather to worship our Creator and Redeemer. All: We gather to give thanks and praise to the one who sets us free.Leader: To be fully free, we know we need forgiveness. All: Forgive us, Lord, for what we have said and done and for what we have not said and not done. Forgive us for not trusting you and allowing fear to rule. Forgive us for the divisions we create and for not sharing your light and love with others.

We pray to you, our Creator and Redeemer, to make things right, and to make us right with you and each other. Turn us around from that which destroys toward that which heals and brings joy. Hear us as we offer our silent confession. Time of silence Leader: Almighty and most merciful God,All: We are thankful that your mercy is higher than the heavens, wider than our wanderings, deeper than all our sin. Leader: People of God, hear the Good News. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven and set free. All: Thanks be to God. We are forgiven and freed!

Leader: We gather in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen

Leader: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. All: And also with you.

lesson Philippians 3:7-11

reading Proverbs 3:1-6

Holy gosPel John 15:19-21

Therefore, since it is by God’s mercy that we are engaged in this ministry, we do not lose heart. We have renounced the shameful things that one hides; we refuse to practice cunning or to falsi-fy God’s word; but by the open statement of the truth we commend ourselves to the conscience of everyone in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Leader: My child, do not forget my teaching,All: but let your heart keep my commandments;Leader: for length of days and years of lifeAll: and abundant welfare they will give you. Leader: Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; All: bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.Leader: So you will find favor and good repute All: in the sight of God and of people. Leader: Trust in the Lord with all your heart,All: and do not rely on your own insight.Leader: In all your ways acknowledge him,All: and he will make straight your paths.

All: Glory to you, O Lord.

If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world—therefore the world hates you. Remem-ber the word that I said to you, “Servants are not greater than their master.” If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.All: Praise to you, O Christ.

aPostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, wascrucified, died, andwasburied. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen
