Linkages established: The i-STED project in NER implemented by EDI has established various types of linkages between the entrepreneurs and support institutions. Following are the highlights of the linkages established:

Technology Related

Technology Inputs provided by IICPT, NSIC, ICAR, CBTC, Guru Nanak Mechanical Works Ltd. , NB Institute of Rural Technology (NBIRT), SELCO Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore.

Credit related

Nationalised Banks Like IDBI, SBI, UBI, AGVP for procuring SME Loans under Mudra and other schemes like Stand up India.

Food Processing: The promoters of M/s Karan Industries, Goreswar,

Baksa, Assam; M/s Deka Rice Mill, Maharipara, Baksa, Assam; M/s Jeuty Food Products, Morigaon, Assam, were self motivated to install modern oil expeller cum filtration unit when they were taken for technical exposure visit to Ahmedabad under i-STED Project . Similarly M/s Urbashi Mill, Goreswar, Baksa, Assam also installed a modern beaten rice making Machine after the exposure visit.

Cane & Bamboo : M/s Ghosh Furniture House, Balipara, Tezpur, Assam &

M/s Bamboo Style, Barpeta Town, Assam has adopted and introduced modern technology like grinding, polishing, organic pest treatment & innovative product making which was provided by Cane & Bamboo Technology Centre, Burnihat (CBTC)

Solar Sector: M/s Puhor, Mangaldoi, Assam, promoted by Ms Rajashree Anil was able to take advantage of seed funding from SELCO Incubation Centre. Having gone through technical exposure on configuration, installation & servicing of solar home lighting systems of different dimensions, they have replicated the same in Mangaldoi district of Assam Also, M/s Hills Solar Power a partnership firm of Shri Har singh & Joy Singh Terron, got similar facilities to propagate solar home lighting system in Karbi -Anlong district of Assam.

Other special features :

A team of Entrepreneurs in food processing sector were taken to Ahmedabad for exposure on latest technology in their area of interest (Rice, Oil, Bakery etc) & availability of Machines in related field.

For Cane & Bamboo sector, introduction of mechanical Incense Stick Making Machines, Electric Operated Sanding Machine, Grinder Machine, Cutting Machine etc.

Introduction of organic pest treatment of Cane & Bamboo.

For Renewable sector (solar), entrepreneurs identified under i-sted project were given linkages to AEDA for local support. A few selected ones were further linked to SELCO Bangalore for incubation in addition to getting guidance from SELCO professionals, at EDI Guwahati. Six Entrepreneurs from Assam were taken to SELCO Incubation Centre in Bangalore for Technical Exposure .They were also given hands on training at RRTC Meghalaya.

Contribution of EDI: In the year 2015, Rajshree Anil, age-34, residing at Guwahati joined an Entrepreneurship Development Programme conducted by EDI at Guwahati under i-STED Project. Amongst the three sectors, Rajashree showed her interest in renewable energy (solar).Hailing from Mangaldoi, she saw lot of prospects of introducing solar power in that area particularly in home lighting and water pumps.

Seeing her enthusiasm and professionalism, EDI linked her up with Selco Foundation, Bangalore for further exposure and incubation support. Rajashree was sent to Bangalore to attend a 3- day workshop at Selco Foundation to know the knitty-gritty of solar business. Thereafter EDI team had helped her prepare Business Plan, she attended a technical training at RRTC, Meghalaya conducted by Selco. On the merit of her business plan, Rajashree was supported by Selco with seed funding of Rs1.98 lakhs to promote her business. This led Rajashree to create ‘PUHOR’ meaning light a Firm registered in Mangaldoi to carry forward her business in August 2015.Puhor installed the 1st street light in Bihdia Bazar Chowk funded by Mangaldoi Municipality Board. It was the starting point and thereafter she has installed a number of home lighting systems in various other locations.

Rajashree conducted a number of awareness programmes amongst potential users with live demonstration. Currently she integrates, assembles and installs various systems as per need of customers. EDI has also given a linkage to her with CII-BYST for further support like bank linkage. Rajashree was selected as one of the ten best entrepreneurs in the BYST Business Plan Competition and awarded a Certificate of Merit. Rajashree is networking with different institutions like Municipality Boards, Police, NEC etc for integration and installation of various solar systems like home lighting, street lighting etc. She has also approached IDBI Bank for expansion of her business. Presently she has been installing 2-4 systems a month with an average income of Rs10, 000/- by employing one person directly. She is B.A.Passed. Outcome:

Contribution of EDI: Sri Joysing Teron, age - 32 and Sri Harsing Teron, age - 40 are not relatives-while Joysing hails from Langmoukwai village, Harsingh belongs to Dongkamukha village in Karbi Anglong district of Assam. Both came to attend a solar technician training programme at NB Institute of Rural Technology(NBIRT),Guwahati co-sponsored by EDI under i-STED from 2nd to 8th November2014.Thereafter they were selected by EDI for further counseling and grooming to set up their solar enterprise in Karbi Anglong .The road to grounding their enterprise has not been smooth. Karbi Anglong is one of the most backward districts of Assam with poor communication and characterized by frequent bandhs. There is hardly any internet connectivity and getting connected with them was itself a big challenge. However inspite of all these deterrents, both were sent to Selco Incubation Centre in Bangalore to attend a 3days Orientation cum exposure training from 7th to 9th January 2015.This was followed by a 9 days training on solar system sales, demonstration and installation in Bangalore. After coming back, EDI gave them handholding support to create a partnership firm, get registered and also made a business plan. Even EDI has also selected both of them to attend 3-Days Technical Training on Solar Energy System at EDII under i-STED Project. During the training period EDII has provided all the inputs to set up business unit and its documentation part. In this connection EDI has also provided information to prepare a partnership deed and finally it was executed by both Joysing and Harsing in the name of Hills Solar Power on 25th May 2015 and got the Trade License on 14th August 2015 Town Council.

EDI also has guided then to make a linkages with nearest banks for their future development of business and after opening a bank account on Langpi Dehangi Rural Bank at Hamren, Hills Solar Power received a seed capital grant of Rs 1.98 lakhs from Selco Foundation to kick start their venture since Selco has shown interest to provide handholding support to them after having linkages with EDI’s support. The firm has its office located at Hamren New Market. Both the partners man the office in turn and go for demonstration and booking of orders in different villages. Till date, they have assembled and installed 20 home lighting systems of different capacities as per demand of customers in different places of Karbi-Anglong and earning as an average net income of Rs.14, 000/-per month.

Contribution of EDI: Abdul Hekim, age 42 (23.03.1973), H.S.Passed, is an EDP trained entrepreneur under i-STED Project, NER. As part of his training programme, he had selected a project to launch a sales & servicing unit of solar items as he was already in electrical business. During this EDP Training EDI has sent one expert of Solar Technology from AEDA of Guwahati and also convened 2 nos. meeting with Selco Officials/Technical Experts on Solar Energy System at EDI-NER Office, Guwahati for establishing good linkages between Selco and entrepreneurs on solar sector; so that entrepreneurs get more information about solar business from expert. In this connection, EDI had organised one 3-Days Technical Training on Solar Energy System under the skill training component of i-STED Project at Mangaldai of Darrang District of Assam and during this training Abdul Hekim learnt about how to install and integrate solar system for home lighting. Shri Hekim also got training on fault finding and repairing by the expert hired from Assam Energy Development Authority of Assam (AEDA), Guwahati during training programme. EDI has made a very good linkage with Bandhan Bank of Mangaldai Branch and bank is interested in giving him financial support to upgrade his solar unit. Apart from this EDI has also made a linkage with Selco Incubation Centre for up gradation of entrepreneur’s technical know-how on solar energy system through training since this Selco is an R & D Organisation on solar sector and Selco is performing their role on it as per requirements of our entrepreneurs till date.

Before attending the EDP, Shri Hekim was operating his electrical business as an electrician from home on call basis, but currently ha has started his showroom at Baghtari area of Mangaldai, attending to various customers in Baghtari area of Mangaldai for installation, repair and maintenance of solar home lighting systems. Presently his monthly sales realization/turnover on solar business is Rs. 60-70 thousand on an average.

Contribution of EDI: Shri Nur Jamal, aged 30, class-VII passed, is an EDP trained entrepreneur under i-STED Project, NER. When EDI has organised one EDP under i-STED Project at Kharupetia; as part of his training programme, he had selected a project to launch a sales & servicing unit of solar items. During this EDP Training EDI has sent one expert of Solar Technology from AEDA of Guwahati to provide information about the opportunity of solar business and its benefits in the society. To make a good linkages EDI has convened 2 nos. meeting with Selco Officials/Technical Experts on Solar Energy System at EDI-NER Office, Guwahati for establishing good linkages between Selco and few trained entrepreneurs on solar sector; so that entrepreneurs get more information about solar business from expert which was attended by Shri Nur Jamal. In the technical training programme, Nur Jamal had learnt about how to install and integrate solar system for home lighting, solar water heater and solar motor pump etc. He also had learnt how to check to find out fault in battery cell & panel and how to do the repairing & maintenance services on it by the expert hired from Assam Energy Development Authority of Assam (AEDA), Guwahati during training programme. After completion of the training EDI has made linkage with United Bank India, Kharupetia Branch and the bank is interested in giving him financial assistance to expand his solar business if the entrepreneur could continue maintain the business relationship with this bank. Before coming to attend the EDP and Technical Training under i-STED, Mr. Jamal was doing some flying business from his house on some electronics items. But after attending the EDI’s Training pogramme Jamal is attending various customers in Asintala area of Kharupetia for installation, repairing and maintenance of solar home lighting system, water pump etc. Thus in this way he launched his business unit in an organsied way as solar sales, assembling, installation and servicing centre at Asintala of Kharupetia. Now he is getting a very good market demand from customers in his Asintala area. His business unit is situated at his own land/home situated in Asintala of Kharupetia. Outcome:

As part of his training programme, he had selected a project to launch a sales & servicing unit of solar items as he was doing electrical items business as an electrician. During this EDP Training EDI has sent one expert of Solar Technology from AEDA of Guwahati and also convened 2 nos. meeting with Selco Officials/Technical Experts on Solar Energy System at EDI-NER Office, Guwahati for establishing good linkages between Selco and entrepreneurs on solar sector; so that entrepreneurs get more information about solar business from expert. In this connection, EDI had organised one 3-Days Technical Training on Solar Energy System under the skill training component of i-STED Project at Mangaldai of Darrang District of Assam and during this training Shri Ali has learnt about how to install and integrate the system for home lighting system including maintenance of battery and fans equally etc. He also has learnt how to find out fault in battery & panel and how to do the repairing on it by the expert hired from Assam Energy Development Authority of Assam (AEDA), Guwahati during training programme. EDI has made linkage with UCO Bank of Kharupetia Branch and bank has shown their interest too in giving him financial assistance to expand his solar business. The entrepreneur has already 1SB A/c under UCO Bank of Kharupetia Branch.

EDI also provided direct linkages to Keramat Ali as trained entrepreneur with Selco Incubation Centre of Bangalore and ASTEC/AEDA of Guwahati to get more back-up support on technical side and now he is getting frequent advice on technical ground from Selco & AEDA and EDI is providing technique/strategy for his market development. EDI also has provided linkages with DICC- Mangaldai Branch for getting registration and support, and provided information and procedure for procuring all business related documents like; Trade Liscence, EM-I & II etc and he has already started his process to apply for it.

In this way when he launched his small unit in an organsied way as a solar & electrical items sales, assembling, installation and servicing unit at Asintala and he is getting a very good market demand from customers in this area of Kharupetia. His business unit is situated at his rented land/house and he has got house rent agreement also from landlord. He also has engaged one assistant employee in his business for servicing & maintenance purpose. Outcome:

In this connection EDI also has convened 2 nos. meeting with Selco Officials/Technical Experts on Solar Energy System at EDI-NER Office, Guwahati for establishing good linkages between Selco and entrepreneurs on solar sector; so that entrepreneurs get clear and more information about solar business from expert to develop the business as per market demand. After identification of entrepreneurs from EDP, EDI had organised one 3-Days Technical Training on Solar Energy System under the skill training component of i-STED Project at Mangaldai of Darrang District of Assam and during this training Abdul Salam had learnt about how to install and integrate solar home lighting system, solar water pump etc. He also has learnt how to find out fault in damaged cell of battery & panels and how to do the maintenance service on it by the expert that hired from Assam Energy Development Authority of Assam (AEDA), Guwahati during technical training programme. EDI has made linkage with Allahabad Bank of Nalbari Branch. Bank is also interested in giving him financial support/assistance to expand his solar business in Assam. She also participated in a day long Technology Demonstration Programme on Cane & Bamboo machineries & tools conducted by EDI. Different machines like Bamboo Splitting Machine, Sliver Making Machine ,Bamboo Stick Making Machine, Incense Stick Masala Coating Machine etc were shown . Regional Director, DC(Handicraft) visited the Programme, where further input on organic treatment of Bamboo was explained by using neem leave. She had been linked to different DC Handicraft schemes like Artisan Card, exhibition etc. Further, she is being proposed to provide financial linkages under Mudra scheme for which discussion are going on with AGVP Bank. She has prepared a project to manufacture innovative bamboo products like pen stand, flower vase bread basket, rice basket, wall Hanging etc. She has no difficulty in marketing her products as they are lifted from home. With artisan card, she will also be able to participate in various fairs sponsored by DC (Handicrafts), Govt of India.

In the programme skilling on production of different new & innovative products were taught and accordingly, prepared items like pen stand, hand fan, flower vase, basket, candle stand, soap case, letter box, etc. She also participated in one day Technology Demonstration programme on cane & bamboo machineries & tools conducted by EDI. Different machines like Bamboo Splitting Machine, Sliver making Machine ,Bamboo stick making Machine, Paddle operated Masala coating Machine for Incense stick etc were shown . Regional Director DC (Handicraft) visited the programme, where further input on modern treatment of Bamboo was explained by using neem leave. She had been linked to different DC Handicraft schemes like Artisan Card, exhibition etc. as well as proposed for financing of her unit under Mudra scheme for which discussion are going on with Bank of India, Barpeta Road Branch. She is presently producing innovative bamboo products like pen stand, flower vase bread & rice basket, wall hanging etc. in her unit. Her products are marketed through whole sellers and directly from her unit. With artisan card, she will also be able to participate in various fairs sponsored by DC(Handicrafts),Govt of India for marketing. Outcome:

He participated in a technology Induction programme on cane & bamboo where modern machineries & tools & their application were shown in Cane & Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC). Input on modern treatment of cane & bamboo and skill of preparing various innovative products was shared by CBTC during the Programme. After the Induction Programme & Training, he has installed Grinding Machine , Cutting Machine & Polishing Machine in the production Process. He is selling his product in Bihar and Punjab . EDI is helping him to establish a e-commerce business by linking him with flipkart & Amazon. He is making bamboo & cane furniture & other utility Items. He is also linked with DC Handicraft, for further help & support.

Further he is being proposed for bank finance under Mudra Scheme & BYST. BYST shall handhold him in expanding his unit. 2.16 Outcome:

Three technology sectors namely; Cane & Bamboo, Food Processing and Renewable Energy (Solar) have been identified for the interventions to be made under the project. The following machines were acquired/propagated and demonstrated amongst existing/new entrepreneurs for adoption.

CANE & BAMBOO SECTOR:

Uniform Bamboo slices for making stick can be done which will increase production by 30%. Used for making Bamboo mats, Incense stick & bamboo blinds.

3. Bamboo square stick making device, blade type

From bamboo slices, production of square stick can be done which will increase productivity by 30%. Used for making Tooth pick, Incense stick & blinds.

3. Bamboo tools kit box, containing 23 types of hand tools, for furniture making.

Increases productivity. Used for making furniture & decorative items.

4. Incense stick making machine, for coating masala on stick. (paddle operated)

Increase in productivity by 40%. Used for making Incense stick.

B. SOLAR SECTOR.

4. Drum Nail Machine It is a electric operated small tools for making design on Bamboo & Cane.
