What is a video game?

It’s an electronic game that is visualized by a display, in two or three

dimensions. It can be controlled by one or more persons, using

keyboards, touch screens or gamepads, that are showed in the next

images.

This games can be played on computers, cellphones, etc. There are

devices that are specialized to run videogames:

video game consoles.

Money involved

The video games are increasingly more expensive, for developers

and for players. To make games like the ones that are currently, with its

high quality, is too much harder than some years ago. The difference in

graphics through the time can be observed in this images:

The videogames of the past were much simpler, so developers could

make them faster. With the pass of the time, this way of entertainment

became even more expensive and productive for who makes them;

video games are a serious business that moves a lot of money.

The most expensive game till now is Destiny, with a cost of production

of $500 millions dollars with 5 years of development, and launched

on september, 2014.

The persons that are fanatics of videogames are denominated

“gamers”.

Online gaming

The first chance to play at the same time with others, using internet,

was in 1986, with the launch of a game called Habitat, for computers.

Today, many persons play with others online, in different devices, in

different parts of the world, because is better than playing alone or with

bots (artificial players), even is a way to socialize behind a screen. With

the online experience, the world of video games changed.

Conclusion

The first video game (probably) was Pong, a simple and

famous game of the first generation of consoles, launched on

the ancient console Atari, in 1972. It’s shown in the right image.

In the present, we can see that the games

have evolved a lot, and have became so

popular that is even an addiction for some

persons. There are video games of any

kind, and they entertain and distract us,

and the quality, depth and productivity of

some of them have reached, or overtake

the level of a movie.
