Street ministry with the young people of “Rescue-me” Bishop Dom Pedro and brother Raphael Street Ministry in Maceió, Alagoas With the poor and for the poor Meeting of the Council and reception of the Acolyte and Liturgical Ministries Street ministry Newsletter “The Way” Nº013 - July, 2011 On the 25 th – 27 th of July, 2011, we held our second council meeting of the Poor of Jesus Christ, in the monastery, Our Lady of the Divine Holy Spiriti, in Claraval, Minas Gerais. At the closing of the meeting, during Holy Mass, our Bishop Dom Pedro Luis Stringhini gave our dear brother Raphael the ministries of lector and acolyte. May the Holy Spirit illuminate and strengthen our brother. It is with much joy and gratefulness to God for the opportunity of our religious in Maceio, Alagoas, to encounter the most needy every Tuesday. We go out to children, adolescents, and adults who are dying every day because of crack and glue. After this contact in the streets, many begin to frequent our mission house where they can attend to their personal hygiene, eat dinner, and above all, receive the attention and caring of the sisters who live there. “Jesus went around to all the towns and villages. At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd” (Matthew 9, 35a.36) We could say that these words gained life in the young people of the family “Rescue- Me” of Sao Paulo, as well as the religious that they were with. On Sunday, the 3 rd of July, they went through the streets in the center of the city, giving haircuts in the park to many men and women who are homeless. Soon after that they went to the region known as “crackolandia”, that is a major area of drug use. The experience was really powerful for everyone, above all for each young person who went with us to encounter those that the world condemns.
