Introducing you to Peter Coman, award-winning designer and the face of InDesign Technologies. Pete and his team are a new breed of consultants that exclusively design communications infrastruc-ture and advanced technology systems (audio visual, structured cabling systems, security and CCTV systems just to name a few) for educational institutions of all sizes.

InDesign stands out from the crowd because they guarantee you won’t receive a variation as a result of their design flaws. Lucky Pete doesn’t make mistakes; but if he did, he says the solution is simple, “I’ll fix it at my cost”. And he’s earned the trust of some big organisations too, having worked with clients like the University of Queensland and the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Does your designer guarantee $0 in variations?

This one does.

“Just let the IT guys

sort it out.”

“Just let the IT guys

sort it out.”

One of management’s favourite misconceptions is that systems like AV, video conferencing, structured cabling and security are all just ‘technology’ and should therefore be the responsibility of the IT department (or electrical engineer). It’s true, they are starting to share infrastructure with IT - but that’s where the line is drawn.

The knowledge required to design these systems is unique and different to what’s required in managing corporate IT infrastruc-ture. They don’t do what we do, and we don’t do what they do. There’s no duplication, only collaboration.

These systems are critical to get right, but unfortunately they’re rarely allocated a specialist designer.

Consider the implications of a technology or cabling failure – how much does this cost the organisation? Failure doesn’t have to mean a complete breakdown either. These days, users have zero tolerance for slow data transfer speeds.

Efficient and effective communication at every level is paramount to an organisation’s success. From support staff to the Vice Chancellor, well designed technology allows you to connect, col-laborate and create.

Make technology your strength.

Bottom line... Hire a specialist to design this stuff,

because hiring an amatuer is expensive. 6

We’re hooked up with the right people

We have clever, experienced people. While we recognise that qualifications are essential, it’s our extensive background in system design, installation and commissioning that gives us the edge.

We know first-hand the issues that can occur from poor planning and we can anticipate and overcome these issues during the design phase. As a result, there are fewer variations during construction.

Our engineers have obtained the InfoComm CTS, BICSI RCDD & ESS qualifications and are internationally recognised for their demonstrated knowledge and comprehension of the science and technology used in complex cabling and advanced technology system design.

A well designed system also requires great people skills and groundwork. We ask the right questions to understand your requirements and we’re good at translating this into solutions that deliver the ideal mix of functionality, scalability and reliability for you.

Consult with us

InDesign translates your requirements into technology strategies and tactical plans - ensuring consistency, reliability, functionality and ease of use across all facilities both locally and cross-campus.

From general purpose learning spaces to lecture theatres and simulation spaces, our knowledge makes us the ‘go-to’ resource for advanced technology systems.

“Peter is able to take concepts and ideas from non-technical staff and make them a reality

through thoughtful, considered design. He researches what is required and marries

that with what is available in the marketplace to produce an up to minute solution.”

Audits

Whilst you may have an accurate inventory of your technology, it’s common to become complacent about the specifics.

Before engaging in a design, it’s always best to conduct a thorough audit of the current facilities. This sets the foundations for an accurate gap analysis and is excellent for uncovering any unforeseen issues and preparing the scope of works.

“Peter provides insight into the possibilities with innovative designs and inspiration. He works as part of the team not just a business partner.”

Owen Cuthbert Project Manager, Fujitsu Australia

Design

Whether it’s designing from scratch or leveraging off existing systems, InDesign liaises with the relevant departments and design teams to determine your technology requirements. In both instances detailed technical documentation is produced.

“We first hired InDesign in 2012. The quality of InDesign’s work was so

high and the benefits so apparent, that we re-engaged them again in 2013.”

Maureen KlinkertDirector IT Services

University of Sunshine Coast

Project Management

Experience in all facets of the industry has made us well-rounded, practical, down-to-earth, accessible and logical in our approach.

Project management is about managing the relationship between materials and labour. At InDesign, we always keep our eye on the deliverables by continually benchmarking a project’s anticipated costs, schedules, quality, communication and risk assessment against the actual. That’s the easy part.

In reality, it’s rare to find a construction project that goes perfectly to plan. There will always be technical problems, setbacks, budget constraints, last minute changes etc. These variables plus the extraordinarily high human involvement is what makes construction projects difficult to manage. Due to our practical experience and problem solving skills we can chart a course in less than perfect conditions.

InDesign’s extensive experience and knowledge also provides you with a major benefit that most project managers can’t deliver - we don’t stand back and let contractors do what’s convenient for them – we know how it should be done and we won’t accept anything less, ensuring that your project deliverables are achieved as planned and without compromise.
