RESTAURANT OF THE POUSADA

MEDIEVAL SCENARIO FOR EXTRAORDINARY MEALS

The only thing that overcomes the fact that you are spending a few days in a unique and inspiring national

monument, is living dining experiences that put the icing on the cake, or in this particular case, since we are talking about Óbidos, the cherry at the bottom of the cup. This

restaurant, with fabulous views, high ceilings and the wood text, well prepared tables and comfortable armchairs,

invites you to spend time to taste the dishes with inspiration from the West! Reserve the special moon table,

more discreet and quiet for a more private conversation and a unique view of the Senhor da Pedra Church; or the twilight table for a particularly romantic dinner in the

summer! There are also tables with a privileged view from the Manueline windows, that will make you feel like the

most important person of the court. The original tiles with birds and fish designs, the coppers and the dishes help you walk a few centuries back in time when the world seemed to spin slower. All dishes come covered with a hood, which increases the expectation of what you will taste and the sophistication of the service. Feel treated like a king or

queen, in this so special castle.

Number of seats: 60The dishes are subject to change without prior notice.

Óbidos is one of the best examples of medieval architecture preserved in Portugal.

he village of Óbidos was conqueredfrom the Moors in 1148 by KingAfonso Henriques, but it was not untilT

the beginning of the 16th century thatÓbidos gained the Manueline traces forwhich it is known. This was the work of itsMajor, João de Dijon.

The cultural treasures hidden in this smallvillage are endless — including 14churches and chapels — and among these, the Church of St. Mary, covered by thetypical glazed tiles and pictures painted byJosefa de Ayalla y Cabrera (Josefa deÓbidos).

Its surroundings are also full of interestingspots, like the aqueduct ordered by D.Catarina of Austria, the wife of King JoãoIII, and the Lagoon of Óbidos, the rightspot for fishing and hunting, close to thesite where royal picnics took place.

And if the historical environment has notcompletely won over you, wait until youdiscover the delicious gastronomy.

In Óbidos, typical dishes are based on fish: from “Caldeirada” (Fish Stew) of the Óbidos Lagoon to Fried or Soaked Eels —no meal is complete without one of the

innumerable desserts; including the “Rocha” Pear. And nothing better to flatter the palates of the region than a “Ginjinha”,

the liquor made of sour cherries.
