Nursing Units Join ForcesLisa DiMarco, Vice President Patient Care Services

On Monday, June 13th, nurses from Little Company of Mary’s ICU and Labor/Delivery units joined forces when a rapid response occurred. When a patient in the ICU unexpectedly went into labor, Penny Winnick, RN, ICU, jumped into action, paging Labor/Delivery nurses for backup. Within minutes, the teams were working side by side. Among the team of heroes alongside

Nurse Extern, ICU. The fast response, professionalism, compassion, and skill of these incredible teams without a doubt saved this patient’s life.

These nurses also want to extend a ‘thank you’ to: M. Bassel Atassi, M.D.; Ericka Searles, M.D.; Chadi Nouneh, M.D.; Paul Gabriel, M.D.; Almaz Abdyrakov, M.D.; Sr. Christa Henrich; and the LCMH surgery unit for coming to their aid and going above and beyond in patient care.

Thank you for all that you do each and every day.

This time of the year families with school age children begin to think about getting the kids ready to go back to school and this includes thinking about what vaccinations may be due. There has been controversy in the media about vaccines over the past several years that has led

Disease Prevention and Health Promotion reports that approximately 42,000 adults and 300 children in the United States die each year from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Communities with pockets of unvaccinated and under-vaccinated populations are at increased risk for outbreaks. It’s important for everyone to make well informed decisions about healthcare and that includes whether or not to vaccinate.

Most people are familiar with childhood vaccination. Guess what, adults need to get shots (vaccines) too. Some of the

Rounds Inspired Employees on a Mission of Caring and Wellness

This month we are sharing excerpts from the article “To serve patients is our greatest privilege” by David T. Feinberg, ND, MBA published in the Patient Experience Journal Volume1, Issue 2 – Fall 2014, pp. 4-5.

Health Care workers are experiencing an incredible time in medicine. Science and technology have produced numerous advances that in the not-so-distant past might have been thought unimaginable.

We all have the clinical skills to provide our patients with the most up-to-date care. But what about the humanitarian skills to also comfort the men, women and children who come to us? Our patients not only want the most excellent medicine, they want to be treated with respect and compassion. The patient’s experience of his or her interaction with the hospital staff is as important, and in some cases perhaps more important, as the quality of the treatment they receive.

We must recognize that the people who come to us are more than just patients. They are wives and husbands, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons,

daughters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. Each one has his or her own unique story and that story does not end when they leave us. We have the privilege to connect with them while they are in our care, but even if their life ends within our walls,

we become a part of their ongoing narrative and that of their families and friends. Whether or not that narrative

up to us.

We need to make sure that every patient and family that comes through our doors receives not just great care, but also is treated with dignity, respect and compassion. Our patients want us to recognize that while today is another day on the job for you, for

them it may be among the worst days of their lives. We need to place patients at the center of our attention.

Every day we have the opportunity to touch someone’s life so deeply. It is our responsibility to not just treat our patients, but also to embrace them. Understanding that this experience is woven into each patient’s story, we recognize that we are called to do whatever we can to uplift their day and to make it better.

Our Greatest PrivilegeThe Patient Experience Committee

Today, we are honored and proud to say to our patients.. .

“ I T I S O U R P R I V I L E G E T O T R E AT Y O U.”
