Controls and Operational Features

A. Output Current Knob: Potentiometer used to set theoutput current used during cutting. Refer to theTechnical Specification section for more informationabout the machine rated current range.

B. Gas Test/Purge Switch: This switch opens the airstream from the torch with no cutting current beingpresent; this feature is very useful to blow the workpiece, to cool the torch or to simply check theavailability of air in the torch circuit.

C. Power ON/OFF LED: This LED lights up when themachine is ON.

D. Output LED: This LED lights up when the outputterminals of the power source are energized.

E. Gas Alarm LED: This indicator lit when the value ofthe cutting torch air pressure falls below theminimum level required.

F. Thermal LED: This LED lights up when themachine is overheated and the output has beendisabled. This usually occurs when the duty cycleof the machine has been exceeded. Leave themachine on to allow the internal components tocool. When the thermal LED light turns off, normaloperation is again possible.

G. Cutting LED (PC 1030 only): This LED lights upduring cutting.

H. Remote ON/OFF Switch (PC 1030 only): Thisswitch enables/disables the Remote ControlConnector.

I. Remote Control Connector (PC 1030 only):Connect here the remote control unit. Refer to thepicture below for the functions related to each pin ofthe connector (front view):

1. INPUT 0-5VDC: Output Current Adjustment.2. OUTPUT 12VDC @ 1A max: Auxiliary Power

supply.3. GROUND.4. INPUT: Start power source active connecting

and to a "DINSE" connector on the front of thepower source.

L. Power Switch: It turns ON / OFF the input power tothe machine.

M. Input cable: Connect it to the mains.

N. Gas Inlet and Pressure Regulator: Connect herethe hose carrying the gas to the machine.

The air plasma cutting process uses air as primarycutting gas and as torch cooling gas. The air circuitincludes a pressure regulator set at 5bar.

The pilot arc is struck by energizing a electrovalve(solenoid valve). This valve lets the air flow onlywhen driven by the electronic logic devices duringthe post-flow and cutting stages, or if the Gas Testswitch on the front panel is turned on.

WARNINGA clean, dry air or nitrogen must be supplied to themachine. A pressure setting above 7,5bar coulddamage the torch. Failure to observe theseprecautions could result in excessive operatingtemperatures or damage to the torch.

O. Fan: Provides machine cooling. It is switched ONwith the machine and continues to run till themachine is turned OFF.

The design concept at the basis of these power sourcesis to have available a current which remains constant atthe set value, independently from the length of theplasma arc.• Connect the torch [J] and the work cable [K].• Turn ON the Power Switch [L] placed on the back of

the machine; the LED [C] on the front panel will turnON. One second after the switching ON a "click"from the starter relay will be heard; the unit is nowready to operate.

• Check through the Gas Test [B] switch that theprimary air [N] is available. The working pressureshould be set at 5bar.

• Set the desired current value with the OutputCurrent [A] knob.

To start the cutting process just press the torch button, making sure you are not aiming the torch air blowtowards people or foreign objects. During the cuttingprocess it is possible to hold the torch away from thework piece for an extended period of time.• Avoid to touch the work piece directly with the torch,

when you do not have the torch with the propernozzles.

• The arc length should not be more than 6-7mm.

Once the cutting process is terminated releasing off thetorch button will cause the plasma arc to be turned off;the air flow will continue for approximately 30sec. (post-flow) to allow the cooling down of the torch.

However, it may still generateelectromagnetic disturbances that can affect other systems like telecommunications (telephone, radio, and television) orother safety systems. These disturbances can cause safety problems in the affected systems. Read and understandthis section to eliminate or reduce the amount of electromagnetic disturbance generated by this machine.

This machine has been designed to operate in an industrial area. To operate in a domestic area it isnecessary to observe particular precautions to eliminate possible electromagnetic disturbances. Theoperator must install and operate this equipment as described in this manual. If any electromagneticdisturbances are detected the operator must put in place corrective actions to eliminate these disturbances

with, if necessary, assistance from Lincoln Electric.

Before installing the machine, the operator must check the work area for any devices that may malfunction because ofelectromagnetic disturbances. Consider the following.• Input and output cables, control cables, and telephone cables that are in or adjacent to the work area and the

machine.• Radio and/or television transmitters and receivers. Computers or computer controlled equipment.• Safety and control equipment for industrial processes. Equipment for calibration and measurement.• Personal medical devices like pacemakers and hearing aids.• Check the electromagnetic immunity for equipment operating in or near the work area. The operator must be sure

that all equipment in the area is compatible. This may require additional protection measures.• The dimensions of the work area to consider will depend on the construction of the area and other activities that are

taking place.

Consider the following guidelines to reduce electromagnetic emissions from the machine.• Connect the machine to the input supply according to this manual. If disturbances occur if may be necessary to take

additional precautions such as filtering the input supply.• The output cables should be kept as short as possible and should be positioned together. If possible connect the

work piece to ground in order to reduce the electromagnetic emissions. The operator must check that connectingthe work piece to ground does not cause problems or unsafe operating conditions for personnel and equipment.

• Shielding of cables in the work area can reduce electromagnetic emissions. This may be necessary for specialapplications.
