Potter grew up in the countryside where she and her

brother were able to have many small animals as pets

She developed a love of the natural world and spent her time drawing and painting her animal friends. Potter also learned to illustrate insects, fossils, and fungi. She became an expert on the reproduction of fungi spores and painted many microscopic details that are still used today to identify fungi.
