Image caption… Iraq is set to begin receiving the first of 36 F-16 fighters, similar to these USAF examples, from 2014. (US Air Force)
The Pentagon has signed a USD 199 million contract with Lockheed Martin for a Foreign Military Sales deal with Iraq for 18 F-16C/D export model Block 52 Fighting Falcon multirole aircraft, it is announced 24 July.
The deal, which covers 12 single-seat C and six twin-seat D model aircraft, follows on from an earlier contract from another 18 F-16s signed in late 2011 (also 12 C and six D model platforms).
As the value of the earlier deal was given as USD835 million, it is probable that the USD199 million figure of this latest announcement represents an initial agreement to get the Iraqis under contract rather than the final amount to be paid. Indeed, the US Defense Security Co-operation Agency (DSCA) notification into the sale issued on 12 December 2011 gave an overall figure of some USD2.3 billion). Log in to read more.

Log in to read more.

8. FEATURE ARTICLES CAROUSEL The carousel is comprised of four (4) feature articles. One (1) hero features at any time. Carousel does not support video.
Content: The title can wrap up to two (3) lines, displaying entire title.
Mouse Input: [On click] hero delivers user to corresponding article page. Template determined by the content manager/editorial team.
Touch input: UI change to reveal button controls to navigate through carousel
[On swipe] user navigates to the next element in the carousel. A flick should be treated as a swipe interaction, not skipping any stories unless navigating to thumbnails via direct input (see 6)
[On tap] hero delivers user to corresponding article. Template determined by the content manager/editorial team.
Responsive: At small scale (~480 breakpoint) the article title will not overlay the image and the thumbnails will be replaced by buttons and pagination.
10. CAROUSEL THUMBNAILS The feature article carousel supports up to four (4) stories all with representative images. These images comprise the thumbnails below the hero. The hero and the highlighted thumbnail should be the same.
Mouse Input: [On click] carousel animates to the selected thumbnail, updating the hero image and the highlighted thumbnail.
Touch Input: [On tap] carousel animates to the selected thumbnail, updating the hero image and the highlighted thumbnail.
Interaction: If the user selects an item that is more than one (1) space away the recommended model is that of a flip book, quickly scrolling through the other thumbnails then stopping on the selected item.
Responsive: At smallest scale thumbnails become a pagination control with buttons. Paginate through carousel using arrow buttons to navigate 1 article at a time. Navigating between these pages will update the table only.
19. THEMATIC MODULE FEATURE ARTICLE Elements include section title, article title, image, lead copy and read more call to action.
Article title, image and read more are hot spots. If stories with appropriately sized/cropped images are not prevalent then these should be curated.
Article title character limit is 85 characters, and the lead copy is 105 characters.
[On click] delivers user to article page. Template determined by the content manager/editorial team.
Responsive: At 300px the thematic feature story stops scaling and a break point is introduced at which point items 19 and 20 become an accordion.
20. THEMATIC MODULE SECONDARY ARTICLES Supports up to three (3) secondary thematic articles for any topic. Featured articles are either most recently published or curated.
At full width, 4 of 12 columns at 1140px, article titles should wrap to 1.5 lines with an 85 character count. To be confirmed in design.
The article title is a hyperlink.
[On click] delivers user to article page. Template determined by the content manager/editorial team.
Responsive: At 300px the thematic feature story stops scaling and a break point is introduced at which point items 19 and 20 become an accordion.
27. REPEATED TIER 1 NAVIGATION At the small scale navigation is repeated to enable quick access to section pages.
[On tap] delivers user to respective section page.
28. BACK TO TOP BUTTON At small scale link back to top is accessible
[On tap] anchors user to top of the current page.

Log in to read more

Log in to read more
