0110 General

The vessel to be built as Container carrier, with 1 deck, a long forecastle deck and a poop

deck with superstructure. The Container carrier will be equipped with 3 holds for the

transport of containers. The engine room is located at the aft ship. The main propulsion

consists of 1 medium speed non-reversible engine running on HFO IF 380, 1 reduction gear

and 1 controllable pitch propeller. The accommodation of the vessel to be designed for

sailing of the ship with max. 14 persons.

At the design draught (7,30 M) of the Container carrier the speed has to be minimal 18.7

knots. Speed is given under the following conditions;

- Main engine running at 90 % MCR

- Shaft generator not generating electric power

- Sailing in smooth deep seawater

- Wind force not exceeding Beaufort scale 2

If the sea and weather conditions are different during the sea-trials, a suitable calculation

to be made to present results in accordance with the above stated conditions, e.g;

- For shallow water, according to the “Method of Schliting-Lackenby”

- Wind force, fouling of Container carrier’s hull, sea spectrum and draught according

to the correction method of the Netherlands Ships Model Basin, Wageningen.

A compact electro-hydraulic steering gear to be provided to control the rudder, ram type.

The hydraulic power to be supplied by 2 independent pumps. Tank and pumps to be placed

above the cylinders. The control to be electrically from the wheelhouse by means of a NFU-

joystick or the autopilot. Emergency control at the steering gear itself.

4600 Rudder

4610 Rudder construction and shape

The ship to be equipped with 1 free-hanging high-lift rudder (flap-rudder). Make

Barkemeyer. The rudder blade area and the rudder stock diameter to be designed up to the

rules of the classification society.

The rudder stock and blade to be joined by a conical connection. Therefore a cast-steel

piece to be welded into the rudder. The rudder-blade to be preserved inside, and to be

drained by means of a dock-plug.




4620 Rudder bearings

The rudder to be supported by a double row swivel joint roller bearing on the top, with

grease sealing ring. The neck bearing bush to be made of bronze. A special seal to be

installed at the bottom.

4630 Rudder trunk lubrication

An electrically driven grease lubricating device with time switch clock to be mounted in the

steering gear room, for lubricating the rudder trunk. The surplus of grease to be led back

into the steering room.

5460 Cooling water heat exchanger

For keeping the Freshwater tanks clear of ice some heat exchangers will be installed for making

use of the HT cooling water. In this heating system two (2) pumps to be installed.

prohibit the discharge of this water.

6320 Tank sounding system

condensation of the seawater

The fresh water generator shall utilize the waste heat in HT cooling system from the main engine

and shall produce rated capacity of fresh water not exceeding 2 ppm of salinity at rated vacuum

at main engine cooling fresh water temperature of 85 deg.C and at cooling sea water temperature

of 32 deg. C.

of grey water from galley, showers, sinks, etc. up to the maximum total hydraulic capacity of the

unit calculated on 3.200 litre/day waste water

The unit has a design organic load capacity of 1,76 kg BOD / day.

The unit is in full compliance with present IMO/Marpol MEPC.2 (VI) and MED96/98/EC and

compatible with any gravity or vacuum system.

The following safety equipment is mounted on the economiser:

- Indicating pressure differential switch with orifice to check the flow through the heater,

- Maximum thermal fluid thermostat,

- Maximum thermostat for the exhaust gasses after the economiser for dirty heating surface,

- Maximum thermostat for the exhaust gasses after the economiser for fire,

- Leakage switch,

- 4 Temperature indicators at thermal oil inlet/outlet and exhaust gas inlet/outlet.

The economiser is provided with cleaning nozzles at the bottom for soot removal by fresh water.

Cleaning takes place by injection water during operation of the main engine.

The economiser is provided with a fire-fighting nozzle at the top.

The water for cleaning is supplied from the fresh water system. Fire fighting is provided by a

seperate pump with capacity according the class rules.

8910 System

The air in the accommodation to be conditioned (cooling or heating) by a Central Air-handling unit,

located in the AC-room.

The plant to be provided with the following main components:

- Air intake and mixing section with air filters

- High pressure centrifugal fan, v-belt driven by an electric motor

- Humidifying section

- Heating, via water which is heated by thermal oil

- Air-cooler for direct expansion including regulating equipment

- Air discharge box to which the cold air supply ducts are connected

The direct expansion refrigerating plant to be provided with a Freon 404 A installation with one

electric driven compressor, make Bitzer (5H40), with fully automatic control condenser, make

Bitzer (K1973T2), with built in receiver, dryer and oil separator.

- Air distribution to be by insulated rectangular ducts.

- Reheating to be obtained by electric elements to be placed in the cabin units

thermostatically controlled.

- The airconditioned spaces to be equipped by overflow gratings to the adjoining alleyway.

- The exhaust fans of the galley and sanitary spaces to be of sufficient capacities, to avoid

entering of smells into other spaces.

- A canopy with grease filters to be provided above the galley range.

Each separate exhaust or supply system to be provided with the following main components;

- One axial flow fan or one centrifugal fan with vibration dampers and flexible connections.

- Supply grills of the lockable and adjustable type.

- Fixed exhaust grills.

- Galvanised rectangular ducts complete with suspensions.

8930 Airconditioning capacity

The capacity of the cooling installation of the airconditioning system for the accommodation

spaces to be based on the following conditions:

Summer operation:

Primary: outside air temperature +35 °C -70%RH

The electrical installation to be equipped with the following systems:

small consumers.

S DC system, 24 V for the alarm, control system and other applications.

The auxiliary generators and the shaft driven generator to be able to feed the ships electric

system in four different ways:

1. Only generator A will feed the installation

2. Only generator B will feed the installation

3. Generator A + B are feeding the installation parallel

4. The shaft generator will feed the installation

After delivery of the ship and the final certificates are issued there will be made a connection in

the electrical system to connect also the emergency / harbour generator parallel.
