As APJ Abdul Kalam said,"It is not unemployment

that is the major problem; it is the question of

unemployability that is the major crisis in this

competitive arena…“

According to a survey by FICCI-Ernst &Young Paper, about 80% of the Indianworkforce does not possess identifiablemarketable skills.

According to a NASSCOM-McKinseyreport, a talent shortage of 3.1 millionknowledge workers, across Industry, by2010 compounded by the fact that only25 per cent of fresh engineers; and amere 10% of fresh graduates areactually employable.

India has the largest, youngestpopulation in the world. But it is alsothe most unemployable population asit lacks work skills that can make itemployable.

As we can see that our university syllabus includes those things which have no correlation with the basics

and it also not talk about the advance.

The knowledge that student grasp from the syllabus have no connection

with the Field requirement.

What we are learning today is not been updated, while the industry has

vision for future.

By taking the advice of the recruiters at the time of making the syllabus and asking them what they want, that the student

should know.

By updating the syllabus time to time, according to the market requirement

More emphasis should be given on practical approach

rather than on theory.

Number of case studies related to their stream

should be included in the syllabus so that the

students should be able to diminish the gap between what has been written and

what to apply.

Defects

In our traditional exam pattern more emphasis is given on literature.

Practical exams concerning each individual students are not been properly conducted.

The questions asked in university exams has no correlation with the concepts such that the

students solve them by parrot fashion technique.

Remedy

The examination paper should possess conceptual based questions such that the student while

preparing for the university exam need not to prepare for competitive exam separately.

Evaluation of exam paper should be done properly such that the conceptual answers should be given

more weightage than literature.

Practical exams should focus more on current field problems.

College administration should provide student friendly environment.

The academic calendar should be fixed and decided by discussing with the students .

The administration should listen on timely basis and get the feedback from students and also try to fix the problems.

Students should also be included in the administration so that transparency and credibility will reside between student and administration.

The administration should let the faculty to be indulged in teaching stuff only rather than in administrative works.

College level Student councils should be made which can raise issuse related to the student welfare in front of administration.

According to the survey done by aspiring minds that the core skills i.e. self confidence, leadership, critical and creative thinking etc. should be necessarily present to be employable.

Lack of communication skill are found in maximum numbers of students belonging to medium other than English.

Proper encouragement and opportunities (such as GD, debate, extempore, short speeches etc. ) should be given to each and every student to express themselves during their academics.

Students should be given the responsibilities such as organizing the college events, becoming a part of TPO cells, student council etc ensuring maximum students should be part of it so that leadership, business ethics and professionalism can develop among the student.

Cultural events, exhibitions, debate etc. should be organize to encourage critical and creative thinking.

Communication Labs which include listening, Speaking, writing practices should conducted throughout the acadamic session at regular interval.

Extra classes should be held for students belonging to medium other than English

Effective Learning

In most of the colleges, full faculty is not available .

Knowledgeable and experienced faculty is missing in most of the colleges.

The college authority should appoint the experienced and qualified faculty, no compromises should be made and, if not available than the alternatives such as video lectures, video conferencing, expert lectures etc should be arranged

After the lecture the short time discussion between the students should be held in the vigilance of lecturer about the topic taught during the lecture.

It is the responsibility of the faculty that each and every student gains maximum from their lecture.

Faculty should be updated with latest information and technology on a timely basis.

After High school ,many options are available for students. To choose the best optionwhich suits them ,proper counseling and guidance should be given to each andeveryone.

Counseling and guidance should also be given at graduation level to students to showthem the right path which can lead them to there destiny .

The below hierarchy show the example that how theyouth have to take decision at various levels

Page 10: IGECIANS

Students should think about gaining more of the knowledge rather then scoring because knowledge makes them successful not percentage.

The student’s mind should be open for every piece of knowledge irrespective

of their field.

They should discuss their doubts and queries with the respective faculty

without any hesitation.

They should prefer overall development for which they should

have to give equal weightage to every fields i.e. academics, cultural etc.

Due to fear of exams the students skips the concepts and they won’t be able to develop

their own skills independently.

Also they tend to take shortcuts to get good marks.

They give more emphasize on percentage rather than to increase employability.

Page 11: IGECIANS

Increasing the employability skills in youth can be done in many ways. Each problems can be solved by different approaches .

We have potrayed our approach towards this problem.

We think that for this particular problem many solutions are present within the system, we have just shown only few examples.

We need to improve the system, there’s no need of any new model.
