INVITATION

From the Desk of Course Directors

Dear Friends

It gives me immense pleasure to invite you to the “Epidemiology Workshop cum Training on Non-Communicable Diseases” organised by SEA chapter of the International Epidemiological Association which will be held from 10-15th April 2017 at Pokhara Grand Hotel, Pokhara, Nepal.

The theme of the conference is “Epidemiology of Non-Communicable Diseases”. The Workshop cum Training will consist of presentations and hands on exercises on variety of issues.

The Workshop cum Training will cover important topics like epidemiology, burden and impact, determinants, role of health promotion, evidence based public health interventions, multi-sectoral actions, cancer registration and cancer control, surveillance, research priorities, monitoring, evaluation and measuring cost effectiveness of interventions in the field of

Epidemiology of Non-Communicable Diseases. It will also cover National Non-Communicable Diseases Programms, roadmap and challenges for integration within different NCDs and addressing co-morbidity with

affiliated fields. Modern epidemiology is not only concern with the study of distribution and determinants of disease frequency in man but also helps in identifying risk factors of chronic diseases, evaluating treatment modalities and health services, it has given newer off-shoots eg. clinical epidemiology, cancer epidemiology, neuro epidemiology, genetic epidemiology. So, all the specialities of medicine are welcome to participate in this Workshop cum Training. Your active participation and contribution in various scientific sessions will make this event a real success.

communicable diseases.Epidemiological skills are essential for every scientist in medical and

This Workshop cum Training will offer a wonderful opportunity to discuss important issues, sharing information and exchange ideas in the field of “Epidemiology of Non-Communicable Diseases

VENUE OF THE WORKSHOP CUM TRAINING

The Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS), Pokhara was established in 1994 following a historic agreement between His Majesty’s Government and the Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG) for setting up of professional colleges and hospitals in Nepal. The 825 bed Manipal Teaching Hospital was inaugurated in 1998. The college started post-graduate programmes and the School of Nursing and Allied Health programme in the year 2000. From August 2003 onwards, the annual intake of medical students for the MBBS programmes was increased to 150. The students are admitted in August every year.

The college attracts an international student presence, with students from Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and many other countries eg. USA, UK and Canada. The experienced, dedicated and full time faculty is drawn from the cream of talent available in India and Nepal. The vision of the institution is to achieve global leadership in human development and excellence in education and healthcare. Our mission is to be amongst the most preferred destinations for students and teachers of medical sciences, and not just in Nepal.

HOW TO REACH POKHARA

a) by Air

The only international airport in Nepal is Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International. There are flights to Kathmandu from around the globe. Within Nepal, most areas are connected by air, even though some by small aircrafts on little runways.

There are many low fare flights available between Kathmandu to Pokhara

b) by Bus

A popular way of entering Nepal is at the border with India. There are entry points at Kakkarbhitta (West Bengal), Biratnagar (Bihar), Birgunj (Bihar), Sunauli, Nepalgunj, Dhanagadi and Mahendranagar (all across the border from Uttar Pradesh). The towns are listed here as they lie from east to west. Biratnagar is Nepal’s second largest city, after Kathmandu. Buses enter at these points and of course you could drive in as well.
