resources Provide media collections and weblinks Written resources are sometimes better Clear and readable web addresses Check reading level is appropriate Transition between children working as
researchers and children communicating their findings
Work towards a shareable digital artefact

Modelling Children may struggle with a task because they
can’t visualise what a good one looks like. Modelling gives them a structure and an idea of
the end product. Think about combining methods: e.g. books,
pens, paper, laptops. Choose one or two tools and work in a group to
make a resource you could use in the classroom. Think about issues such as groupings, inclusion,
resources and assessment.
What does ICT add? Can’t do it any other way? More content or add depth? Explore content through different media? Input and feedback from a wider audience? More personalised and differentiated
learning? More choice and control? Better pace and engagement? A better hook?
When using ICT in History: Learn technology skills in advance Specify websites Have clear objectives Link with an historical skill Provide challenge both in terms of history and
ICT Be aware of the balance of objectives Engagement and repurposing of content can
make lessons memorable Use plenaries to review historical content
Task• Explore tools and resources for enabling children to
engage in digital research on a historical theme.• In groups, plan to apply some of these techniques to
the development of a media resource on a historical theme. This might include a set of curriculum plans, a template and source materials for pupils to use, a finished product or a combination of these.
• Write a short description to turn this into a lesson idea with clear objectives linked to historical skills, providing challenge in terms of history and ICT.
• Refer to History programmes of study: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/239035/PRIMARY_national_curriculum_-_History.pdf

Example ideas• Make a one-minute newscast to report on a historical
event. • Explore virtual environments and share findings in a
digital artefact.• Produce a historical recipe or cookbook.• Create a photo story showing ‘what I know/what I
want to know’ .• Create a historical timeline.• Animate a pivotal scene in history.• Create an eBook to illustrate ‘One day in History’ .• Make an interactive whiteboard resource to introduce
a historical character.
Make a one minute newscast to report on a historical event. e.g. Tudor newsreaders on the death of one
of Henry VIII’s wives. Research the script and think about roles:
e.g. director, camera operator, news reader, script writer, time manager.

Directed task Use your blog to reflect on the session
themes. Document the development of your own skills and how ICT can be used to enhance teaching and learning in History. Include reference to your wider reading and add some visual resources to illustrate your work. Upload your lesson idea and resource to your blog and to the shared resource repository.
