IBM SPSS Statistics 24 Home Use

Overview Heriot-Watt University is licensed to provide IBM SPSS Statistics software to staff and

students of the University. This document acts as a guide on how to install the software on

your personal computer.

SPSS Installation Instructions (PC)

1. Installation Process Follow the instructions below for each window during the

installation process. Open the exe file you downloaded from

the webstore

2. The installer should

begin running.

3. On the IBM SPSS

Statistics – InstallShield

Wizard screen, click Next.

4. On the Software License

Agreement screen, read

the terms and choose I

accept the terms in the

license agreement, then

click Next.

5. On the IBM SPSS

Statistics – Essentials for

Python screen, under

Install IBM SPSS Statistics

– Essentials for Python

click Next.

6. The following license

agreement screen will

appear. Select I accept

the terms in the license

agreement and then click

Next to continue with the

installation.

7. A second license

agreement will appear.

Choose I accept the

terms in the license

agreement and then click

Next.

8. On the Destination

Folder screen, click Next

to install the software to

its default location.

9. On the Ready to Install

the Program screen, click

Install.

10. Once the installation has

completed, click Finish on

the InstallShield Wizard

to end the installation

process and launch IBM

SPSS Statistics.

11. Click License Product to

begin your authorization.

NOTE: You must be

connected to the

Internet to successfully

complete the

authorization process.

12. The License Status screen

will appear. Click Next to

continue with the license

process.

Click Next

13. On the Product

Authorization screen,

choose Authorized user

license (I purchased a

single copy of the

product). and then click

Next.

14. On the Enter

Codes screen, enter

your authorization

code.

Enter the authorization

code you received with

your order from

http://hw.ac.onthehub.c

om (you can log back in

to get the code)

15. Once the authorization

process is complete on

the Internet

Authorization Status

screen, click Next.

16. On the Licensing

Complete screen, click

Finish to complete the

installation.

Troubleshooting

Installation Problems Installation problems are often witnessed if you are not running the install as an administrator.

Please firstly ensure that you are logged onto your computer with administrative rights.

Other problems are encountered due to lack of disk space, or trying to install on an unsupported

operating system. Please see the section above on supported operating systems to ensure you are

installing the correct version for your OS.

Text in License Authorization Wizard

If the text is too large or small when you get to the step to enter the authorisation code (step 14),

change the display properties.

Licensing Options If your computer does not have an Internet connection, you will encounter an error similar to the

one in the first screen below (SPSS 17.0 has been used as an example, but the process is identical for

all versions).

You will need to license the software by email or telephone.

Telephone authorization

Contact SPSS Support on 01483 719206 (make sure you have the appropriate authorization code to

hand). Their support staff will talk you through the authorization process.

Email authorization

Licensing over the Internet

has failed.

1. Click to

proceed to the manual

2. Choose the type of

email client you use.

If you choose Desktop

e-mail and your email is

set up correctly, an

email will be

automatically

generated on your

client. Simply send the

email and await a

response.

If you select Web-

based e-mail you will

need to copy and paste

the text generated by

the wizard into an email

and send to

service@spss.com with

a subject of License

Authorization.

The instructions for this

step are given in the

window.

Once the email has

been sent, you should

receive a reply within

minutes.

3. Click Enter License

Code(s) button.

4. Enter the license code

you received by email.

5. The SPSS Software is

now installed and

licensed.
