.Hyperloop is a proposed method of travel that

would transport people at 745mph (1,200km/h)

between distant locations.Drawing heavily from

Robert Goddard's vactrain, a hyperloop

comprises a sealed tube or series of tubes through

which a pod may travel free of air resistance or

friction conveying people or objects at optimal

speed and acceleration.

Elon Musk's version of the concept, first publicly

mentioned in 2012,incorporates reduced-

pressure tubes in which pressurized capsules ride

on an air bearings driven by linear induction

motors and air compressors. The Hyperloop

Alpha concept was first published in August 2013,

proposing and examining a route running from the

Los Angeles region to the San Francisco Bay Area

roughly

following the Interstate 5 corridor. The paper

conceived of a hyperloop system that would

propel passengers along the 350-mile (560 km)

route at an average speed of around 600 mph

(970 km/h), with a top speed of 760 mph (1,200

km/h), allowing for a travel time of 35 minutes,

which is considerably faster than current rail or air

travel times. Preliminary cost estimates for this

LA–SF suggested route were included in the white

paper—US$6 billion for a passenger-only version,

and US$7.5 billion for a somewhat larger-

diameter version transporting passengers and

vehicles-although transportation analysts had

doubts that the system could be constructed on

that budget; some analysts claimed that the

Hyperloop would be several billion dollars

overbudget due to construction, development and

operation costs.

SIMPLIFIEDyperloop is a proposed mode of passenger and/or freight transportation, Hrst named as such in an open-source vactrain design released by a joint team from Tesla and SpaceX

The general idea of trains or other transportation traveling through evacuated tubes dates back more than a century, although the atmospheric railway was never a commercial success.

Theory and Operation

Artist's impression of a Hyperloop capsule: Air compresso r on t he f r on t , passenge r compartment in the middle, battery compartment at the back, andair caster skis at the bottom. A 3D sketch of the Hyperloop infrastructure. The steel tubes are rendered transparent in this image.

Initial conceptThe Hyperloop concept operates by sending specially designed "capsules" or "pods" through a steel tube maintained at a partial vacuum. In Musk's original concept, each capsule floats on a 0.02–0.05 in (0.5–1.3 mm) layer of air provided under pressure to air-caster "skis", similar to how pucks are suspended in an air hockey table, while still allowing for speeds that wheels cannot sustain. Hyperloop One's technology uses passive maglev for the same purpose.

Linear induction motors located along the tube would accelerate and decelerate the capsule to the appropriate speed for each section of the tube route. With rolling resistance eliminated and air resistance greatly reduced, the capsules can glide for the bulk of the journey. In Musk's original Hyperloop concept, an electrically driven inlet fan and air compressor would be placed at the nose of the capsule to "actively transfer high-pressure air from the front to the rear of the vessel," resolving the problem of air pressure building in front of the vehicle, slowing it down. A fraction of the air is shunted to the skis for additional pressure, augmenting that gain passively from lift due to their shape. Hyperloop One's system does away with the compressor.

In the alpha-level concept, passenger-only pods

are to be 7 ft 4 in (2.23 m) in diameter and

projected to reach a top speed of 760 mph (1,220

km/h) to maintain aerodynamic efficiency ; the

design proposes passengers experience a

maximum inertial acceleration of 0.5 g, about 2 or

3 times that of a commercial airliner on takeoff

and landing. At those speeds, there would not be

a sonic boom.

ST is a Value added Tax (VAT) is G proposed to be a comprehensive indirect tax levy on manufacture, sale

and consumption of goods as well as services at the national level. It will replace all indirect taxes levied on goods and services by the Indian Central and State governments. Though GST is considered to be a historical tax reform in India, it also has some demerits. We here would look into GST Taxation and deal with its advantages and disadvantage

Advantages of GST† GST is a transparent tax and also reduce

number of indirect taxes.† GST will not be a cost to registered retailers

therefore there will be no hidden taxes and the cost of doing business will be lower.

† Benefit people as prices will come down which in turn will help companies as consumption will increase.

† There is no doubt that in production and distr ibution of goods, services are increasingly used or consumed and vice

versa† Separate taxes for goods and services, which

is the present taxation system, requires division of transaction values into value of goods and services for taxation, leading to greater complications, administration, including compliances costs.

† In the GST system, when all the taxes are integrated, it would make possible the taxation burden to be split equitably between manufacturing and services.

† GST will be levied only at the final destination of consumption based on VAT principle and not at various points (from manufacturing to retail outlets). This will help in removing economic distortions and bring about development of a common national market.

† GST will also help to build a transparent and corruption free tax administration.

† GST is backed by the GSTN, which is a fully integrated tax platform to deal with all aspects of GST.

Limitations of GST

à Some economists say that GST in India would impact negatively on the real estate market. It would add up to 8 percent to the cost of new homes and reduce demand by about 12 percent.

à Some Experts says that CGST(Central GST), SGST(State GST) are nothing but new names for Central Excise/Service Tax, VAT and CST. Hence, there is no major reduction in the number of tax layers.

à Some retail products currently have only four percent tax on them. After GST, garments and clothes could become more expensive.

à The aviation industry would be affected. Service taxes on airfares currently range from six to nine percent. With GST, this rate will surpass fifteen percent and effectively double the tax rate.

à Adoption and migration to the new GST system would involve teething troubles and learning for the entire ecosystem.

WAYMO'S SELF DRIVING CAR

Waymo is an autonomous car development company spun out of Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc., in December 2016. It then took over the self-driving car project which Google had begun in 2009.

Waymo's driverless car has eight sensors. The most noticeable is the rotating roof-top-Lidar – a camera that uses an array of 32 or 64 lasers to measure the distance to objects to build up a 3D map at a range of 200m, letting the car “see” hazards. The car also sports another set of “eyes”, a standard camera that points through the windscreen. This also looks for nearby hazards- such as pedestrians, cyclists and other motorists- and reads road signs and detects traffic lights. Speaking of other motorists, bumper-mounted radar, which is already used in intelligent cruise control, keeps track of vehicles in front of and behind the car.Externally, the car has a rear-mounted aerial that receives geolocation information from GPS satellites, and an ultrasonic sensor on one of the rear wheels t h a t m o n i t o r s t h e c a r ' s movements. In te rna l ly, the ca r has altimeters, gyroscopes and a t a c h o m e t e r t o g i v e fi n e r measurements on the car's position. These combine to give the car the highly accurate data needed to operate safely.

N o s i n g l e s e n s o r i s responsible for making Google's self-driving car w o r k . G P S d a t a , f o r example, is not accurate enough to keep the car on the road, let alone in the correct lane. Instead, the driverless car uses data from all eight sensors, interpreted by Google's software, to keep you safe and get you from A to B.

Are driverless cars safe?Supporters of self –driving car technologies are quick to point to stat is t ics that highlight how unsafe the roads are at the hands of non-autonomous cars. The worldwide figures are just as

scary, with road deaths claiming 1.25 million lives in the year 2014. Google claims that more than 90% of these fatalities were due to human error.

LimitationsThe latest prototype had not been tested in heavy rain or snow due to safety concerns. The vehicle has difficulty identifying when objects, such as trash and light debris, are harmless, causing the vehicle to veer ( a sudden c h a n g e i n d i r e c t i o n ) unnecessarily. Additionally, the Lidar technology cannot spot some potholes or discern when humans, such as a police officer, are signaling the car to stop.

Go-Kart The Virtual Round Competition

TORQUE - 2017

In the world of race aficionados, there are many races organized by different organizations. Some of the more prestigious ones are- Formula 1,2,3; Supra, Baja, and Go-karts. This year, multiple groups from our mechanical department registered for the Go-kart competition organized by NKRC.Two of the groups are- Rennsport and Revotron.

To understand the concepts behind construction of a go-kart and to understand the parameters of the competition, NKRC arranged a workshop at Sinhgad College of Engineering,

th ndVadgaon, from 20 to 22 of June. This workshop was attended by about half a dozen members from the teams and it was found to be very productive as they grasped all the key concepts and ideas discussed there. The first round of the competition is the virtual round which takes place at Vikrant Institute of

Technology and Management (VITM), Indore. In this round, things like, the design, the calculations, and one prototype of the Go-kart are evaluated. The teams fared good in this round. Team

thRennsport scored the 39 rank and team Revotron

thscored the 98 rank out of the 140 teams there. The second round is racing. This is when it stops being all theoretical and about concepts and is about how the final product actually performs on an actual racetrack. The teams are working hard on the assembly and to improve the performance of their Go-karts. Needless to say, they have the full support of the Mechanical Department, faculty and students alike and we wish them the best for the upcoming rounds.

DAY’s CELEBRATION

TORQUE - 2017

A more traditional version of Teacher's Day, was celebrated on 10th July 2017 by giving flowers and greeting cards to all teachers, thanking them for being with us and guiding us in all our needs. Guru Purnima is the national wide festival which is dedicated towards the Gurus or teachers in this world. Guru word is used for the teacher who teaches anything to a learner. If we relate it to the ancient time, it is actually worshipping the Guru Vyasa who wrote the 4 Vedas. But in today time, it is all about worshipping your teacher and showing gratitude towards them for their impeccable hard work for teaching you.

When one finds the

true Guru,

one conquers half
