Easy Grant to help towards sending your children

to the Canberra Camp in 2018. It will be up for

public vote on Monday 4th September for voting

forget to spread the word amongst our community

and to your friends and family by Friday 29th

School. Thank you in anticipation.

WA Education Awards

The People’s Pick is an opportunity for parents,

students and the community to get involved in the

WA Education Awards and recognise dedicated

and talented staff in your school.

It's your chance to tell the world why your

favourite teacher or school staff member shines.

Getting involved is easy – just follow these steps:

1. Pick who you want to recognise.

2. Create a video, photo or testimonial showing

what makes them incredible. You can use

this template to help.

3. Share your message on Facebook and tell your

family and friends to vote for it.

The message that receives the highest number

of votes will become The People’s Pick and

their school will be given a $1000 Modern

Teaching Aids voucher.

Page 3: Hyden Primary School

Entries close at 5.00pm on Friday 13 October

2017. All staff recognised in The People’s Pick

will be acknowledged on our website on Friday 27

October on World Teachers’ Day, along with the

school receiving the $1000 voucher.

For more information please read the terms and

conditions.

We can open your eyes; take you wonder by

wonder – Tags MATHS Yr 3 / 4 This term the Year 3 and 4 have completed an

investigation called “Trash or Treasure”. The

students were required to operate a successful stall

in the classroom. The main objective in running

the stall was the students giving their customers

the correct change.

Investigations require students to use

mathematical concepts in order to complete a

series of tasks connected to the concepts taught in

class.

Thinkboards were also used in TAGS Maths to

show the connections between the different ways

of representing a problem.

This term the Year 5

and 6 have completed

an investigation called

“Fantasy Flight”. The

students had to

produce a travel

itinerary and a record

of expenses to show

how much the dream

trip would actually

cost.

The Problem Solving

Strategies that were

covered this term

were’ Guessing and

Checking ‘ and

‘Working

Backwards’.

Exposing students to

different problem

solving strategies is

impotant because

the students can

then deccide how

they will solve

problems by

thinking about the

different strategies

that could be used.

In TAGS Maths, the

students have been

documenting on

Seesaw what they have been learning in class.

Seesaw is an app

that gives

students a digital

portfolio to

document their

learning and also

learn how to use

technology.

Parenting Ideas – Michael Grose

Please see below this week’s addition to the

fortnightly newsletter, Parenting Ideas

“INSIGHTS” by Michael Grose “Friends”. We hope you enjoy the read and find it useful.

Year 5 / 6 Back Health

On Friday, September 15, Lee Conlan from

Narrogin came to speak to the Year 5/6 class

about back health. We learnt all about the rules for

lifting, how picking things up from our back and

not our legs strains our back, and how our spine

works through a cookie and marshmallow

experiment. Did you know you can push double

the weight that you could pull? The session was

very informative and we all learnt so much vital

information to make sure we have good posture

and look after our backs.
