External Eye

CAUTION: Handle the external eye carefully to avoid damaging the infrared eye.

Connect the external eye connector to the 6-pin port on the motor cartridge on the back of the shading. Do not force the connection. Make sure the orientation of the plug is correct before attempting to make the connection.

For Quartette Exclusive Headrails

Disconnect the existing plugged-in connector for the internal eye that is in the 6-pin port. Insert the new connector from the optional external eye into this 6-pin port.

Connect Daisy-Chained Shading (Optional)

Daisy-chaining allows you to link up to three shadings side by side and power them with a single DC power supply. You should have a daisy-chain wire for each shading.

NOTE: 2" and 3" shadings use a 12-volt DC power supply. Quartette™ 4" shadings use an 18-volt DC power supply. A maximum of three shadings can be connected using one DC power supply.

Each daisy-chain wire has a single 2-pin connector on one end and a Y with two 2-pin plugs on the other end.

As explained below, the procedures for installing daisy-chained shadings are: 1) route the wires; 2) install the shadings into the window openings; 3) connect the wires on the shadings; 4) connect the DC power supply.

Clear a space on the fl oor large enough for all the daisy-chained shadings and lay n

them out in the correct order. Determine which shading will be the fi rst and will connect to the DC power supply. Determine which shading will be the last in the daisy-chain series.

Connect one Y end plug from the n

daisy-chain wire to the 2-pin port on the motor cartridge (located on the back) of each shading.

Each shading should now have one of n

the Y end 2-pin plugs connected to the motor cartridge on the shading, with the other 2-pin plug free and the 2-pin connector at the other end of the daisy-chain wire also free.

On the last shading, attach the n

provided wire retaining clips to the back of the fabric guard (if not already attached) and secure the free 2-pin plug into the wire retaining clips. Note that the plug is free and does not need to be connected to any wires.

Install the shadings (see page 15). Route the n

wires behind the headrail, taking care not to pinch the wires under the installation brackets.

Starting with the fi rst shading, connect the n

free 2-pin plug at the Y end of the daisy-chain to the single connector of the second shading’s daisy-chain wire. Repeat for the third shading.

Hide the wires behind the shadings being careful not to pinch the wires. n

Connect the DC power supply to the free 2-pin connector on the fi rst shading. n

Plug the DC power supply into the outlet (see page 19). n

Test the shadings prior to installation (see n Operate The Shading, page 20).

CARE AND CLEANING

Silhouette® window shadings are made of 100% polyester, which means they are inherently durable and resilient. However, care must be taken to avoid wrinkling the fabric, particularly where the vanes meet the facings.

A Note About Silhouette Fabric

As with all textiles, Silhouette fabric is subject to some variations. Slight wrinkling, puckering, or bowing is inherent to this textile product and should be considered normal, acceptable quality. These characteristics are not usually visible from the front or rear but may be visible from a side angle.

Precautions should be taken to reduce exposure to harsh environmental elements, such as salt air. Continuous exposure through open windows and doors will accelerate the fabric deterioration.

The Palette® Fabric-Covered Headrail

Lightly dust or vacuum using low suction. If further cleaning is needed, hand wash using a sponge or delicate cloth and mild soap solution. Handle with care as you would any fi ne fabrics.

Dusting

Regular light dusting with a feather duster is all the cleaning that is needed inmost circumstances.

Vacuuming

Use a low suction, hand-held vacuum for more thorough dust removal.

Forced Air

Blow away dirt and debris between the vanes using clean compressed air or a hair dryer set on a “cool” setting.

29

Spot-Cleaning

Do not spot-clean Silhouette® window shadings.

Ultrasonic Cleaning

Silhouette shadings can be ultrasonically cleaned by a professional, with the exception of Bon Soir™ light-dimming fabric.

Specify that a mild detergent solution be used. -

Never immerse the headrail into the solution. -

Dry the shading completely in the lowered position. -

Electrostatic Cleaning

Do not use electrostatic cleaning devices such as Swiffer™ or Pledge Grab-it™ on any Silhouette window shading.

Problem Solution

The shading operates using the manual control button, but does not operate using the remote control in the “Point and Press” (Infrared—line of sight) mode.

If the light on the remote control does not n

light up when the UP s/DOWN t button is pressed, replace the batteries in the remote control. See “Replace The Batteries in the Remote Control,” page 28.

Check that the correct channel is selected on n

the remote. See “Channel Selection,” page 20.

Check that you are pointing the remote control n

directly at the infrared eye. See “Lower And Raise The Shading,” page 21. Try moving closer to the eye. Maximum operating distance from the remote control is 30 feet.

Check that there are no obstructions impeding n

the signal from the remote control to the infrared eye on the headrail or the optional external eye.

Check that there is no direct sunlight or bright, n

focused light from halogen or fl uorescent light fi xtures, track lighting, spotlights, or neon lights that could be interfering with the signal.

TROUBLESHOOTING

The shading operates using the manual control button, but does not operate using the remote control in the Radio Frequency (Group) operating mode.

Be sure the shading operates properly in the n

“Point and Press” mode. The grouping function will not work correctly if the “Point and Press” mode does not work correctly.

Be sure the shadings have been correctly n

programmed to the remote control you are using. Shadings will only operate when programmed to a specifi c remote control. If your remote control has not been programmed to your particular shadings, only the “Point and Press” mode will work.

Check that the correct channel is selected on n

the remote. See “Channel Selection,” page 20.

One shading does not consistently respond to the “Group” or “All” command.

Problem Solution

TROUBLESHOOTING

The shading does not operate using either the remote control or the manual control button.

Check that the battery wand is oriented n

correctly in the headrail.

Check that the battery wand is completely n

inserted into the clips and fi ts snugly in the headrail.

Check that the batteries in the wand are n

installed correctly and fresh. See “Replace The Batteries In The Battery Wand,” page 27.

Check that the DC power supply, if used, is n

securely plugged into the wall outlet and that the outlet has power. To check that the outlet has power, plug in a lamp or device that is known to work.

Check that the battery wand, battery pack, n

or DC power supply, if used, is securely connected to the motor. houseing. See “Connect The Optional Components” page 8.

Press the UP n s/DOWN t button longer when operating shadings. It can take longer for the signal to reach one of the shadings.

Check at different areas of the room (home). n

There could be blind spots or interference in your particular situation. Try operating closer, or farther from the shadings to fi nd the optimum point in your home.

Check to be sure batteries in the remote are n

new or fresh. When the batteries get old, the remote transmits a weaker signal.

The bottom rail is not level or the shading rolls up unevenly.

Problem Solution

TROUBLESHOOTING

Check that the headrail is level. If it is not, n

shim or remount the installation brackets.

If the headrail is level, adjust the weight on the n

bottom rail.

WeightWeight

ClipWeight

Clip

To release the n

weight, insert a fl at-blade screwdriver in the right-side weight clip and turn it clockwise. Once it is released and the weight is moved, the left-side weight clip can be released by turning it clockwise.

Move the weight in 1" increments toward the n

side where the fabric is gathering or to the raised end of the bottom rail to adjust.

GatheredFabric

Fabric Roll

Bottom Rail Move Weight

After making the adjustment, lock the n

weight clips in position by turning them counterclockwise.

Lower the shading all the way and check that n

the bottom rail is level. Readjust the weight until the fabric winds evenly and does not gather on either side.

34

The vanes do not close fully when the shading stops in the lowest position.

The shading should be programmed to stop n

in its lowest position with the vanes in a closed position. A small distance between the front and back fabric facings in a fully closed position is normal. If this distance is excessive or moves over time, fi rst open the shading to its full “vane open” position and try again. If this does not correct the problem, follow the procedure above to reset the limit stop and Memory Stop.

The shading raises from the sill when the vanes are closed.

A small gap between the sill and the bottom n

of the shading is normal in the fully lowered “vane closed” position. The gap is necessary to allow for the unimpeded movement of the bottom rail. If this gap is excessive or creeps over time, open the shading to its full “vane open” position and try again. If this does not correct the problem, follow the procedure above to reset the limit stop and Memory Stop.

Bottom rail does not raise completely, or the vanes do not fully open or close.

Your PowerRise® shading contains internal programming that allows it to “learn” and store its relative position. You may need to clear and reset this memory if you want to change the position or if the lower stop position (vanes closed) moves over time. Resetting the limits clears the memory stop position.

NOTE: The gradual movement of the lower stop position over time is a normal condition and does not indicate a malfunction.

To clear the the program memory and reset the n

Memory Stop, refer to page 26.

NOTE: If you perform the resetting correctly, the shading will not stop or jog the vanes at the lowest position the fi rst time it is operated after resetting.

Check that the battery wand, battery pack, n

or DC power supply, if used, is securely connected to the motor. houseing. See “Connect The Optional Components” page 8.
