    hortly Gambia and Ghana, withhe donation of medical supplies,ssential life-saving medicines,nd needed medical equipment

    which otherwise would not bevailable, and providing free

    medical care and surgeries toeople in need, as well.

    The Barraquer Foundation wasfounded in the year 2003 byProf. Joaquin Barraquer and Drs.Rafael and Elena Barraquer. Itsmain objective is the diffusion ofophthalmology and become uni-

    versal in its most humanitarianaspect.

    Among its sphere of action standsout to facilitate nancial andassistance aid to patients in needat Third World countries. TheJoaquin Barraquer ResearchChair in Ophthalmology offerssupport to ophthalmology inves-

    tigations, award scholarships inthe eld of ophthalmology andpromote The Eye Bank for theTreatment of Blindness.

    The Barraquer Foundation hascollaborated jointly with the Cla-ros Foundation at several huma-

    nitarian expeditions in countriessuch as India, Gabon, Cameroon,Kenya, D.R. Congo, Senegal andshortly Ghana.

    Other projects are being plannedfor this year in Africa.
