Intro:  How To Make a Lily Shape Lamp (or a copycat of Normann Copenhagen Norm 06)This instructable will provide you with the templates to construct one (or rather 2 of different size), wholly of original construction, drawn by me and absolutely free.Aesthetically at least, it look pretty enough (^_^)

Click the Google search link above to see the original lamp design by Simon Karkov, smallest of which cost in excess of £44. In an interview, he claim to have spent 3years perfecting his lamp, well... It did take me 1 paper model, 2 plastic models and maybe 3 weeks to get to the final 30cm wide version...

In following Scandinavian kitsch naming convention, I am calling mine the Pippi L11 , henceforth it be known.

Step 1: Templates - For 22cm wide lampThis is possibly as small as it gets for ease of assembly.

The program to open, edit, export (DXF) or print these template file is free and available for download at:

http://www.emachineshop.com/machine-shop/Download/page100.html

There's no obligation to use any of their service and no bugging reminders...

There are 2 template files:

1) Pippi-L11-22cm.ems has the all the parts drawn, with labels indicating the quantities required. You can populated them yourself. The program is really quite easy toCtrl-C and Ctrl-P.

2) Pippi-L11-22cm-A3.ems has an A3 and A4 sheets populated with the required quantities for your convenience.

DO NOTE, when downloading and saving these files, remember to rename it back with the right dot extension, i.e. whatever_filename_you_chooses.EMS

The material for the lamp in the photo below are plain clear plastic sheet use as protective cover page for binding documents at copy shop. I got mine for 25p per A3sheet, cheap as chips!

There are 2 template files:

2) Pippi-L11-30cm-500x600cm.ems has an 500x600cm Polypropylene 350mic (0.35mm) sheet populated with the required quantities for your convenience. Printing thisrequires a plotter. Heh!

DO NOTE, when downloading and saving these files, remember to rename it back with the right dot extension, i.e. whatever_filename_you_chooses.EMS

The material used in this case is a sheet of frosted translucent white polypropylene sheet, sized 500x600cm which may be purchase at Paperchase, an Arts and Craftchain store in UK . Cost £1.75

Step 3: Cutting the piecesThe finished cut-outs should look like the first image.

On the printouts, those locations with tiny 'circles' has to be drilled, this prevents the sheet from shearing. It also makes it easier to cut out the slotting with easy tolerance.

Please go through all the image notes on the photos below for more details

Image Notes1. Templates for scribing, the scribing tool should not be sharp, preferably use arollerball pen that has ran out of ink.2. The 'petals' in 3 sizes, quantity of 7 each.3. Top cover for the 'ends' of lamp4. Bottom cover - might not need this.5. The 'stem' of the lamp, NOTE there's a distinction between top and bottom, see that the 4 vertical slots of each column, 2 are spaced wider at the top and 2are spaced closer at the bottom. The slots cut-outs (or openings) are also twicewider for two in the middle.

Image Notes1. Unfinished cut-outs. The paper printouts are held on to the plastic sheet withdouble-sided tape.

Image Notes1. The scribe I've made is a tiny screwdriver with a broken tip. A rollerball pen isjust as good if not better. The tip should not be sharp, doesn't prick the skin, thisis essential so as to not shear the plastic.

Image Notes1. Print out of 500x600cm

Image Notes1. Printout is held with double sided tape.

Image Notes1. Product code hopelessly unclear

Image Notes1. Applying the scribe line allows you to fold the plastic and lets it retain theshape you want. This is what the top cover of the stem will look like.

Image Notes1. Similarly, after applying the scribe, the stem should look like this, I wouldadvise experimenting with the pressure of scribing to see what's best to work forthe material you have. Some plastic can shear quite easily.

Page 7: How to Make a Lily Shape Lamp or a Copycat of Nor

Image Notes1. Using the template shown earlier, each petals should end up looking like this.

Step 4: AssemblyAssembly... This is kind of hard to follow, but I will try to  answer any queries...

Basically, all you have to do is to get those 'T-Shapes' on the line edges of the petals into the cut slots opening of the stems.

Once again, be reminded the stem has a top and bottom, see that the 4 vertical slots of each column, 2 are vertically spaced wider at the top and 2 arevertically spaced closer at the bottom. The slots cut-outs (or openings) are also twice wider for two slots in the middle. If you had not notice so, the slottedpetal will be rather lose or ill fitting.

Starting with the smallest petal at the bottom, work toward the biggest at the top.

The final column of vertical slots is overlapping, this secures the heptagonal (7-sided?) shape of the stem.

Image Notes1. The T-shapes are slotted into the stem. To slot T-shape, simply fold endsslot it in and unfold.

Image Notes1. Overlapped the petals, smallest to biggest.

Image Notes1. Note the middle 2 slot openings are wider to accommodate 4 T-shapes,hence the extra thickness and wider opening.

Image Notes1. While adding another segment of petals, you will encounter that the t-shape getslotted in between sheets, simply use the scribe or a mini-screwdriver to ease thefolded ends out. This is quite essential as it secures the petals.

Image Notes1. See, it is secured!

Image Notes1. Slotting in the top... If you have gotten this far, this step should be trifle easy asknitting codes
