In sporting events the silver fern is a symbol that represents New Zealand

If we put all those things together we can find out a lot about this person….

So what have we learnt so far?

Symbols…

•Can help visually represent our identity

•Can include things that are important to us like our culture, religion and family

•Can include the things we like such as our favourite sport or food

•are usually very flat simple shapes with little colour.

Now that we have learnt about symbols, we can begin to create our own…

•Using our ‘identity’ artwork in the previous exercise, we will now create symbols for all the things that are important to us or enjoy doing
