• My product represents a small social group , one that is not really seen and generally hidden from the public eye is a social group that you hear horror stories about.

• In My opening there is one main social group which is represented through the use of mise-en-scene, sound ,editing and cinematography. These social groups are gender and also age.

How editing represents Gender?

• Rapid cuts used in the killer appearing scene could represent gender, as women are often represented as indecisive when making decisions

How sound represents the Gender?

• The non-digetic scream used in the bathroom scene when killer comes in .It represents Females ,as screaming is associated with women as they are usually portrayed as feminine , “Helpless” and the “victim”, especially in Horror films.

How mise-en scene represents gender?

• The costume the characters are wearing represents gender. The victim dress like a typical 20 years old student in her girlish pyjamas. Even the killer wears a black long dress . Killer wearing a dress is not usually what you see in horror movies, but I did not want to copy the official movies and developed my ideas. I think that killer wears black dress is a sign for gender. Also She wears a fake hair which is also a sign that she is a woman.

How cinematography represents gender?

• I have used several close ups and extreme close up in my film opening ,which could represent gender ,as stereotypically, women like to be the center of attention, which is represented through these shots.

How editing represents Age?

The dream scene and quick cutting could represent teenagers ,especially teenage girl as the rapid cuts could symbolise the stereotypical assumptio that all teenagers have “bad mood”

How sound represents the Age?

• When the girl starts screaming after she wakes up from her nightmare ,you can tell from her voice that she is 18-20 years old.

How mise-n scene represent age?

• The use of costume and make up represent age. In my opinion this opening would be a good for a college horror movie . .The killer is dressed more like teenager who wants revenge . An the victim is wearing simple childish pyjamas which indicates to her age innocence .

• The films I used as inspiration was “Scream”, This is a good H/T film to use because it has the typical Student/Teen character base, even the killers are students. I took mine further, firstly I used the female victim, and then I had the killer, then I also had it set within a house, to give more emphasis that girl is living alone. Giving a more realistic feel to the opening, and also to distinguish the characters more.
