How does your media product represent particular social

groups?

Mode of address

• I used informal mode of address which connotes youthful and chatty which represents a younger vibrant social group. I wanted the reader to feel as though they were being included rather than being talked at. My double page spread is in an interview style which is easy to follow and to the point.

Price

• My magazine is aimed at creative educated young professionals and students. I have reflected this social group through the pricing of my magazine (£3.99) as my readers will money to spend on materialistic items such as clothing, hobbies and magazines.

Font Style

• The 'Old Press' font I have used for my masthead and throughout the magazine has a grungy scratched effect which again represents a similar style to the clothing and attitude of an alternative social group. I have used red throughout my pages I think this signifies energy, individuality and youthfulness which represents a younger social class. The font is modern and contemporary, which represents a younger social group.

Clothing in images

• Firstly I chose clothing which I thought was most appropriate and represented an 'indie kids' alternative style. Within the images I have used, I have chosen specific clothing I wanted them to wear in order to portray this stereotype and social group. A check shirt, trilby hat, vans and denim jacket all contribute to a care free persona which I wanted to portray through my magazine.

Models

• I chose to photography younger people within my target audience age group (17-25) This ensured that my magazine was vibrant and young. It also represented a fun and youthful stereotype.

• My magazine appeals to both female and male readers. To represent this I have used a range of female and male models in order to appeal to both genders.

Composing the images

• The stance and position of the person I was photographing was really important in showcasing a youthful and edgy appearance. I used bold stances, which connotes confident and bold, I incorporated hand gestures and big expressions to portray the characteristics of the alternative social group I was trying to represent.
