C hristchurch-Wuhan garden in “Ellerslie International Flower Show” is a sister city project, designed by Lincoln University landscape architect student Erin Diao and supported by the Christchurch-China Sister Cities Committee. The garden is built on the two iconic images from each city, the Christchurch Cathedral and the Wuhan Yellow Crane Tower; and matches the Yangtze River from Erin’s native Wuhan together with the the Avon River from her current home in Christchurch. W uhan is the capital of Hubei

Province, in central China. It is one

of China’s oldest cities, and is often

called ‘Chicago of the East’, because of its long history of

trade and commerce. The relationship between Christchurch

and Wuhan was made official in 2006 and has developed

rapidly since then. The relationship supports strong

education and economic links between the two cities,

as well as cooperation in both cultural and botanical
