Seasonal Sentence Watch at all times, praying that you may stand before the Son of man. Luke 21.36 The Gathering of The Community (Page 230) Celebrant: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. All: And with thy spirit. Celebrant: Let us pray. All: Almighty God, unto whom all hearts be open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Summary of the Law Celebrant: Our Lord Jesus Christ said: hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord; and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it: thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. All: Lord, have mercy upon us, and write both these thy laws in our hearts, we beseech thee.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. The Gloria Glory be to God on high, and in earth peace, good will towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly king, God the Father almighty.

O Lord, the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sin of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sin of the world, receive our prayer.

Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us. For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

The Collect (Page 392) Celebrant: Let us pray Almighty God, you sent your Son Jesus Christ to be the light of the world. Free us from all that darkens and ensnares us, and bring us to eternal light and joy; through the power of him who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. All: Amen. The First Reading: 1 Samuel 1:4-20 On the day when Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters; but to Hannah he gave a double portion, because he loved her, though the Lord had closed her womb. Her rival used to provoke her severely, to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. So it went on year by year; as often as she went up to the house of the Lord, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat. Her husband Elkanah said to her, "Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? Why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons?" After they had eaten and drunk at Shiloh, Hannah rose and presented herself before the Lord. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat beside the doorpost of the temple of the Lord. She was deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord, and wept bitterly. She made this vow: "O Lord of hosts, if only you will look on the misery of your servant, and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a male child, then I will set him before you as a nazirite until the day of his death. He shall drink neither wine nor intoxicants, and no razor shall touch his head." As she continued praying before the Lord, Eli observed her mouth. Hannah was praying silently; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard; therefore Eli thought she was drunk. So Eli said to her, "How long will you make a drunken spectacle of yourself? Put away your wine." But Hannah answered, "No, my lord, I am a woman deeply troubled; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the Lord. Do not regard your servant as a worthless woman, for I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation all this time." Then Eli answered, "Go in peace; the God of Israel grant the petition you have made to him." And she said, "Let your servant find favour in your sight." Then the woman went to her quarters, ate and drank with her husband, and her countenance was sad no longer. They rose early in the morning and worshipped before the Lord; then they went back to their house at Ramah. Elkanah knew his wife Hannah, and the Lord remembered her. In due

time Hannah conceived and bore a son. She named him Samuel, for she said, "I have asked him of the Lord." Reader: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Psalm 16 (Page 719) 1 Protect me, O God, for I take refuge in you; * I have said to the Lord, “You are

my Lord, my good above all other.” 2 All my delight is upon the godly that are in the land, * upon those who are

noble among the people. 3 But those who run after other gods * shall have their troubles multiplied. 4 Their libations of blood I will not offer, * nor take the names of their gods upon

my lips. 5 O Lord, you are my portion and my cup; * it is you who uphold my lot. 6 My boundaries enclose a pleasant land; * indeed, I have a goodly heritage. 7 I will bless the Lord who gives me counsel; * my heart teaches me, night after

night. 8 I have set the Lord always before me; * because he is at my right hand I shall

not fall. 9 My heart, therefore, is glad, and my spirit rejoices; * my body also shall rest in

hope. 10 For you will not abandon me to the grave, * nor let your holy one see the Pit. 11 You will show me the path of life; * in your presence there is fullness of joy,

and in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.

Gracious God, we bless your holy name for the heritage you have given us. Show us the path of life, that we may follow it in hope, and come to know the joy of the resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen

The Second Reading: Hebrews 10:11-14, 19-25 And every priest stands day after day at his service, offering again and again the same sacrifices that can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, "he sat down at the right hand of God," and since then has been waiting "until his enemies would be made a footstool for his feet." For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. Therefore, my friends, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh), and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of

faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Reader: The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. The Gospel Reader: The Lord be with you. All: And with thy spirit.

Reader: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark (13:1-8) All: Glory be to thee, O Lord. As Jesus came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher, what large stones and what large buildings!" Then Jesus asked him, "Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down." When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately, "Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign that all these things are about to be accomplished?" Then Jesus began to say to them, "Beware that no one leads you astray. Many will come in my name and say, 'I am he!' and they will lead many astray. When you hear of wars and rumours of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs”. Reader: The Gospel of Christ. All: Praise be to thee, O Christ.

and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2.1,2

Let us humbly confess our sins to almighty God.

All: Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things and judge of all people: we acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and wickedness, which we from time to time most grievously have committed, by thought, word and deed, against thy divine majesty. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings. Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life, to the honour and glory of thy name; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Celebrant: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy hath promised forgiveness of sins to all them that with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto him: have mercy upon you; pardon and deliver you from all your sins; confirm and strengthen you in all goodness; and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. All: Amen. The Peace Celebrant: The Peace of the Lord be always with you. All: And with thy spirit.

Please greet one another with a sign of peace.

Offertory Interlude (O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing) Prayer over The Gifts (Page 393) Celebrant: Let us pray. Holy God, in this eucharist we renew our baptismal covenant. Help us, through our offering this day, to renounce all things that draw us from your love. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord . All: Amen.

Celebrant: Let us give thanks unto our Lord God. People: It is meet and right so to do.

It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting God, creator and preserver of all things.

Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify thy glorious name; evermore praising thee and saying: All: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts, heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Glory be to thee, O Lord most high. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

Please kneel or sit as you are able. Celebrant: All glory be to thee, O Lord our God, who didst make us in thine own image; and, of thy tender mercy, didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to take our nature upon him, and to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption.

He made there a full and perfect sacrifice for the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that his precious death and sacrifice, until his coming again;

who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks to thee, he broke it, and gave it to His disciples, saying, “Take, eat, this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Likewise, after supper, he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the remission of sins. Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Wherefore, O Lord and heavenly Father, we thy people do celebrate and make, with these thy holy gifts which we now offer unto thee, the memorial thy Son hath commanded us to make; having in remembrance his blessed passion and precious death, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; and looking for his coming again with power and great glory.

And we most humbly beseech thee, O merciful Father, to hear us, and, with thy Word and Holy Spirit, to bless and sanctify these gifts of bread and wine, that they may be unto us the body and blood of thy dearly-beloved Son Jesus Christ. All: We praise thee, we bless thee, we thank thee, and we pray to thee, Lord our God.

And we earnestly desire thy fatherly goodness to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, whereby we offer and present unto thee, O Lord,

Page 10: Holy Trinity Church, Thornhill...through the power of him who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. All: Amen. The First Reading: 1 Samuel 1:4-20

ourselves, our souls and bodies. Grant, we beseech thee, that all who partake of this holy communion may worthily receive the most precious body and blood of thy Son Jesus Christ, and be filled with thy grace and heavenly benediction; and also that we and all thy whole Church may be made one body with him, that he may dwell in us, and we in him; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord; By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honour and glory be unto thee, O Father Almighty, world without end. Amen. The Lord’s Prayer Celebrant: And now, as our Saviour Christ hath taught us, we are bold to say, People: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread People: We do not presume to come to this thy table, O merciful Lord, Trusting in our own righteousness, But in thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy So much as to gather up the crumbs under thy table. But thou art the same Lord, Whose property is always to have mercy: Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, So to eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, And to drink his blood, That we may evermore dwell in him, And he in us. Amen.

O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: grant us thy peace.

Celebrant: The Gifts of God for the People of God. All: Thanks be to God.

Seasonal Sentence Watch at all times, praying that you may stand before the Son of man. Luke 21.36 Processional Hymn 434 The Love of Jesus Calls Us

The love of Jesus calls us our joyous praise to sing; Our deeply felt thanksgivings we now together bring, For all God’s many blessings, unasked yet still received. And for the generations who faithfully believed.

The love of Jesus calls us, that we may always be Companions on a journey, where all the world may see That serving Christ is freedom which time does not destroy; Where Christ’s command is duty, and every duty joy.

The love of Jesus calls us to go where he would go, To challenge all that limits, to change, to learn, to grow, To know that Christ has freed us, that prisons are no more; For those who seek his kingdom, Christ opens every door.

The love of Jesus calls us in swiftly changing days, To be God’s co-creators in new and wondrous ways; That God with men and women may so transform the earth, That love and peace and justice may give God’s kingdom birth.

Welcome Gathering of The Community Celebrant: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. All: And also with you.

The Holy Trinity School Hymn Father in heaven, who lovest all, O help thy children when they call; That they may build from age to age an undefilèd heritage. Teach us to bear the yoke in youth, with steadfastness and careful truth; That, in our time, thy grace may give the truth whereby the nations live.

Teach us to rule ourselves always, controlled and cleanly night and day; That we may bring, if need arise, no maimed or worthless sacrifice. Teach us to look in all our ends on thee for judge and not our friends; That we, with thee, may walk uncowed by fear or favour of the crowd.

Teach us the strength that cannot seek, by deed or thought, to hurt the weak; That, under thee, we may possess the strength to comfort all distress. Teach us delight in simple things, and mirth that has no bitter springs; Forgiveness free of evil done, and love to all beneath the sun.

The Collect (Page 392) Celebrant: Let us pray Almighty God, you sent your Son Jesus Christ to be the light of the world. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. When you

hear of wars and rumours of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs”. Sermon The Apostles’ Creed (Page 189) Celebrant: Let us confess the faith of our baptism, as we say, All: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. The Prayers Of The People Alexandra Colby (Head Prefect)

The Holy Trinity School Prayer Heavenly Father who loves all of your creation, send your blessings upon Holy Trinity School, devoted to the education of your children. Pour upon it the abundance of your Spirit, your Grace and your Truth. Fill those who teach with the Spirit of wisdom, of understanding and of your love. Guide those who learn with your Grace, that what they are taught they may lay hold of with their minds, retain in their hearts and show forth in their lives. Enlighten those associated with this school with your Truth that they bear your light in their lives. Nurture us all that we may continue to dwell in Christ who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen. The Peace Celebrant: The Peace of the Lord be always with you. All: And also with you.

Offertory Hymn 531 You Who Dwell In The Shelter of the Lord You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, who abide in His shadow for life, Say to the Lord, "My Refuge, my Rock in Whom I trust.”

Refrain And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of His Hand.

Snares of the fowler will never capture you, and famine will bring you no fear; Under His Wings your refuge, his faithfulness your shield.

You need not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, Though thousands fall about you, near you it shall not come. For to His angels He's given a command, to guard you in all of your ways, Upon their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Prayer over The Gifts (Page 393) Celebrant: Let us pray. Holy God, in this eucharist we renew our baptismal covenant. Help us, through our offering this day, to renounce all things that draw us from your love. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord . All: Amen.

Eucharistic Prayer 1 (Page 193) Celebrant: The Lord is with you. People: And also with you.

Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord.

Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Celebrant: It is indeed right that we should praise you, gracious God, for you created all things. You formed us in your own image: male and female you created us. When we turned away from you in sin, you did not cease to care for us, but opened a path of salvation for all people. You made a covenant with Israel, and through your servants Abraham and Sarah gave the promise of a blessing to all nations. Through Moses you led your people from bondage into freedom; through the prophets you renewed your promise of salvation. Therefore, with them, and with all your saints who have served you in every age, we give thanks and raise our voices to proclaim the glory of your name. All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest.

Please kneel or sit as you are able. Holy God, source of life and goodness, all creation rightly gives you praise. In the fullness of time, you sent your Son Jesus Christ, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He healed the sick and ate and drank with outcasts and sinners; he opened the eyes of the blind and proclaimed the good news of your kingdom to the poor and to those in need. In all things he fulfilled your gracious will.

On the night he freely gave himself to death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “ Take, eat: this is my body which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “ Drink this, all of you: this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Gracious God, his perfect sacrifice destroys the power of sin and death; by raising him to life you give us life for evermore. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith.

All: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Recalling his death, proclaiming his resurrection, and looking for his coming again in glory, we offer you, Father, this bread and this cup. Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts, that all who eat and drink at this table may be one body and one holy people, a living sacrifice in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen. The Lord’s Prayer Celebrant: As our Saviour taught us, let us pray, People: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread – 1 (page 212) Celebrant: “I am the bread of life,” says the Lord. “Whoever comes to me will never be hungry; whoever believes in me will never thirst.” People: Taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are they who trust in him!

Lamb of God Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grants us peace, grant us peace.

The Communion Celebrant: The Gifts of God for the People of God. All: Thanks be to God.

Communion Hymn 465 Here In This Place New Light Is Streaming Here in this place new light is streaming, Now is the darkness vanished away, See in this space our fears and our dreamings Brought here to You in the light of this day. Gather us in the lost and forsaken, Gather us in the blind and the lame; Call to us now and we shall awaken, We shall arise at the sound of our name.

We are the young our lives are a mystery, we are the old who yearn for your face. We have been sung throughout all of history, Called to be light to the whole human race. Gather us in the rich and the haughty Gather us in the proud and the strong, Give us a heart so meek and so lowly, Give us the courage to enter the song.

Here we will take the wine and the water, Here we will take the bread of new birth, Here you shall call your sons and your daughters, Call us anew to be salt for the earth. Give us to drink the wine of compassion, Give us to eat the bread that is you; Nourish us well and teach us to fashion, Lives that are holy and hearts that are true.

Not in the dark of buildings confining, Not in some heaven light years away, But here in this place the new light is shining, Now is the Kingdom, now is the day. Gather us in and hold us forever, Gather us in and make us your own; Gather us in all peoples together,

Fire of love in our flesh and our bones.

Communion Interlude Good, Good Father Abby Shenouda (Grade 4)

Prayer after Communion (Page 393) Celebrant: Let us pray. Gracious God, in this sacrament we have shared the body and blood of Christ. May we who have been nourished by holy things bear witness to his light, and share in his eternal priesthood; for he is Lord for ever and ever. All: Amen

Celebrant: Glory to God, All: whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

Recessional Hymn 388 Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God; He whose word cannot be broken formed thee for His own abode. On the Rock of Ages founded, what can shake thy sure repose? With salvation’s walls surrounded, thou mayest smile at all thy foes.

See, the streams of living waters, springing from eternal Love, Well supply thy sons and daughters, and all fear of want remove. Who can faint while such a river ever flows their thirst to assuage? Grace, which like the Lord, the Giver, never fails from age to age.

Round each habitation hovering, see the cloud and fire appear. For a glory and a covering, showing that the Lord is near. Thus they march, the pillar leading, light by night and shade by day, Daily on the manna feeding which He gives them when they pray.

Saviour, if of Zion’s city I through grace a member am,

Let the world deride or pity; I will glory in Thy name.

Fading is the world’s best pleasure, all its boasted pomp and show;

Solid joys and lasting treasures none but Zion’s children know.

Lay Minister: This act of worship is ended! Our service in the world continues! Let us go in peace, to love and serve the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.
