PARISH HEALTH MINISTRY

Well another year is here with all it’s possibilities. Let’s hope that it’s a good year for us all. It is worthwhile to look back on the past year and make resolutions as we go forward. Try to remain as active as you can. This is the flu season. If you live alone, think of getting a ‘buddy’ so you can check on each other and give fluids or help get medical help if necessary. ACW INGATHERING SUNDAY January 28 Ingathering service will be celebrated at 10:00 am, with guest preacher our lay pastor, Christine Ivy. The 2018 ACW Executive will be installed at this service.

CHURCH SCHOOL

Holy Trinity Church School thanks all who donated a Christmas Shoebox to Samaritan's Purse. In 2017 we collected and delivered 57 boxes from our parish, for children in developing countries.

During 2017 Advent, some of our Church School children joined our senior choir for part of the Cantata. This was a delightful addition to a lovely musical morning.

On Christmas Eve, our Church School Pageant was enhanced by the addition of a solo sung by Stephanie Birrell. Thank you, Stephanie. The children are always happy to tell the story of the Nativity.

After a nice Christmas break, our Church School will resume on Sunday January 7, 2018 at 10:00 service.

PASTORAL VISITORS

On Sunday, December 9, 2017 at both services, Carolyn Kennedy (8:00) and Lois Symons (10:00) were commissioned to the ministry of Lay Visitor. Under the supervision of the Parish Nurse, they will support the clergy and parish nurse, as they exercise a ministry of visitation to members of the parish or community, providing pastoral care and support to those who request it. We thank them for volunteering to serve in this role and pray God’s blessing on their ministry.

“PRAYING THE HEADLINES” January 28

Jacqui Getfield and Robin Pacific are starting a new prayer circle at Holy Trinity. The news cycle is faster and faster and most of it is very frightening – from climate change enhanced “natural” disasters, to neo-Nazi rallies in Poland and Charlottesville, to terrorist attacks around the world.

Aiming to alleviate the isolation and powerlessness many of us feel in the face of current events, we invite parishioners to come to a brief monthly discussion and prayer circle. They will be held after the coffee hour, beginning on January 28. We will talk about the recent news and pray together for a more peaceful and just world.

THORNHILL MINISTERIAL 50TH ANNIVERSARY

The 2018 Ecumenical Lenten Series sponsored by Thornhill Ministerial Association will be the 50th anniversary of the Series. Since 1968, the churches of Thornhill have been gathering during Lent for a series of Sunday afternoon worship services organized around a common theme. Each service begins at 4:00 p.m., and follows the liturgy of the church hosting it. The preacher comes from a denomination other than that of the host church.

The 2018 Series will begin on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at The Thornhill Baptist Church. The preacher will be our Area Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Peter Fenty. We will be the host church on March 4. As always, the offerings from these services will go to support the work of local community organizations.
